Unhappiness in marriage often has a simple root cause: we speak different love languages, believes Dr. Gary Chapman. While working as a marriage counselor for more than 30 years, he identified five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. In a friendly, often humorous style, he unpacks each one. Some husbands or wives may crave focused attention; another needs regular praise. Gifts are highly important to one spouse, while another sees fixing a leaky faucet, ironing a shirt, or cooking a meal as filling their "love tank." Some partners might find physical touch makes them feel valued: holding hands, giving back rubs, and sexual contact. Chapman illustrates each love language with real-life examples from his counseling practice.
How do you discover your spouse's - and your own - love language? Chapman's short questionnaires are one of several ways to find out. Throughout the book, he also includes application questions that can be answered more extensively in the beautifully detailed companion leather journal (an exclusive Amazon.com set). Each section of the journal corresponds with a chapter from the book, offering opportunities for deeper reflection on your marriage.
Although some readers may find choosing to love a spouse that they no longer even like -hoping the feelings of affection will follow later- a difficult concept to swallow, Chapman promises that the results will be worth the effort. "Love is a choice," says Chapman. "And either partner can start the process today." --Cindy Crosby. This text refers to the Amazon.com Exclusive Journal & Paperback Book Set.

Good Advice.......2007-06-28
Light read with great advice, stories where the advice has been applied and practical ways to apply the info.
Great knowledge for all types of relationships.
Better than most.......2007-06-28
Buy this book and Stan Cronin's How to Date Your Wife, both available here on Amazon. Between the two books you will have what you need for a lifetime of marriage. Get them, read them and live them for as much happiness as life can bring. This is only the fourth book I have recommended this year.
Read together........2007-06-27
My husband and I got this book in the first few months of our marriage and read it together over the passage of a couple weeks. There were a few parts where we ended up laughing because they are a bit cheesy but over all it really added insite to the whys and hows of realtionship health. We figured out that even though we get along great, we have different ways of showing love and different ways of appreciating love. Over all, it's an eye opening book.
Eye Opener.......2007-06-27
Very insightful reading. We discovered things about ourselves and each other which had never come to light before. I would recommend this book to any couple, regardless of how long they have been together or how well they think they know each other.
Duh, now I get it!.......2007-06-26
The only complaint I would have about this book is that it makes love and relationships appear a little too simplistic by shoving all behaviors into these five boxes, but....what he says does make alot of sense and now I understand myself and my girlfriend way better than before. Recommended for couples or even for someone just wanting to find out more about themselves.

Customer Reviews:
Not all that........2007-01-28
Well, another hyped up child custody/divorce manual that has been drastically over-rated by a few readers. What caused me to give this book at three star? Well it does have plenty of content. Kind of like when you go to a book store or library. How many of the books in there are you going to want to read? Maybe ten percent of them at best. Well this book will probably have ten percent of which may be possible to use in your court cases, and actually have it become applicable and useful to the reader. Another big problem I had with it was that the suggestions and information that the book was advising were too vague for it's readers, especially those involved in a custody battle. So many things in the book were way too generalized for the reader to be able to know how to precisely use them as effective tools. In essence, kind of when you read a horoscope, it's way too generalized to even know how and what makes this work. Also the book had the usual bias slant and actually gave much more advice to women going through child custody problems than it did fathers. The book seemed to focus more on how to legally screw over the father more by the mother than visa versa. Another drawback to the book is that it is very disorganized. There is really no order to it. It would of helpful if perhaps there were a chronological order to the advice using topics and subtopics relating to how events usually occur in pre/during/post divorce. It basically is a mumble-jumble and conglomeration of patches that were inserted while editing the book that say a lot, but say nothing useful. Authority and precedence is what is needed to be established in a family court. That is what a judge wants. The court cases that are mentioned in the book are relevant to the issue being referenced therein, but rarely apply to a lot of the situations that a father is going through. There are requirements that have to be meet while using a past court case that was established as precedence to be used. The only way to get applicable court cases for precedence is to use state family law books that are found at a law library. This book would be okay for a "quick read" at a bookstore.
Good resource.......2007-01-18
This was a good resource for someone going through custody battles. I would recommend it to anyone, but would also mention the fact that there were more misspelled words, typos, major lack of editing issues than any other book I've ever read. WOW. But, the content makes up for this gross neglect. Still, for the price I paid for this book, I did expect better from the editing...
10 Star Resource.......2006-12-13
Someone gave me a 1994 edition of this book at the start of my divorce and custody dispute. It was a better resource book than anything else at the Baker & Taylor Bookstore. When I found the 11th edition it was double the price of the 3rd edition and quadrupel the information. I am so greatful for the new book and it is again better than anything else available, even on Amazon. I read it for the information and because it is interesting. I appreciate seeing examples of reports and studies before I have to face them myself. Win Your Child Custody War, also helps me keep a healthy prespective on what is going on in my life because I can see what others have dealt with. I have used the letters and examples and they really made a positive difference. A great living, breathing piece of work and an outstanding reference!
Great information, Easy to read, Well organized.......2006-04-28
Remarkable. Because each case is so different it would be useless to present this information in any other form.
5 star easy! Highly recommended for its priceless content!.......2006-03-31
I wish someone would have recommended this book at the start of my divorce and custody dispute. This book is by far the best resource book for custody disputes and surviving a divorce. At first glance one would think that it is a bit expensive. However, once you receive it you will be thankful that you did. You could combine numerous other books in this genre and they would not compare to this single book. This book goes in depth without losing the reader. You will find yourself referencing it throughout your divorce and/or custody dispute. Chapters include: 1) Strategies to win custody 2)False Allegations 3)Evidence documentation 4)Grandparents 5)Hiring a detective 6)Rights during visitation 7)Parental Alienation Syndrome 8) Conflict resolution 9)DNA Testing 10)Case Law and so much more! 640 plus pages. An incredible resource worth every penny! Robert Pedersen founder of www.fatherachildsright.org

Pregnancy should be a time of wonder and hope, but these days, it's associated more often with paranoia. Dr. Glade Curtis is keenly aware of the anxieties heaped upon expectant women: he has written several pregnancy-related books. So while he covers pretty much any topic that an expectant mom might be concerned about, he does not overload the reader with extraneous information or horror stories that can be found in that other best-selling pregnancy guide. In this completely revised and updated edition, Curtis describes the physical developments from weeks 1 through 40--or 41 or 42!--such as the size and weight of the baby, emotional changes in the mother, typical medical tests offered, and nutritional requirements. (The iron found in prenatal vitamins may exacerbate morning sickness, he writes, because iron supplementation is usually not needed until the final trimester.) It is too bad that Dr. Curtis does not recommend more alternative-medicine approaches for treating common pregnancy discomforts. In the chapter covering Week 8, he rightly describes sciatic-nerve pain as excruciating, but does not advise yoga or chiropractic treatments for its relief. However, he *is* hip to the use of doulas, or labor coaches, he encourages breastfeeding, and includes numerous tips for making your partner feel included in what should be a thrilling experience for you both. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
A totally revised and expanded new edition of the best-selling doctor-authored pregnancy book--the only one organized week by week.
Because of the rapid rate of change to both mother and baby, doctors refer to a pregnancy in increments of weeks, not months or even trimesters; expectant mothers look for changes and compare the details of their pregnancies based on the same weekly schedule. The best-selling Your Pregnancy Week by Week doles out focused information in this medically appropriate way, making it the most mom-recommended pregnancy guide on the market.
Now carefully brought up-to-date, this expanded Fifth Edition will also be the most medically current and comprehensive pregnancy guide available. Always reliable and now re-designed to be even more accessible, weekly chapters include illustrations, descriptions of baby's growth and developmental milestones, information about a mother's average weight gain and what she might be feeling or becoming aware of, and the medical testing that corresponds to the week in question. New features include:
* Information on cutting edge obstetric technologies-from 3D ultrasound to pre-natal genetic testing
* The very latest diet, nutritional and fitness recommendations for expectant mothers
* A new chapter devoted to overdue (post-term) pregnancies
* An expanded 15-page glossary of pregnancy and childbirth terms
* A handy Due Date Prediction Calendar

Pregnancy Book.......2007-06-27
I really enjoyed this book. Especially for a first time mom. I really appreciated that there was only a few pages per week, but they included a nice description and drawing of what the baby would look like. I would definitely recommend this book to any expecting mom.
Helpful.......2007-06-27
I got the usual pregnancy book and this one. This one is so much better! I like that it is divided into weeks instead of months.
Awesome!.......2007-06-01
This book is so helpful and provides very detailed information that is accessible. It has been my "go-to" book for the entire pregnancy.
Just Okay!!.......2007-05-29
I wasn't all that impressed with this book. It wasn't as helpful as the "What to Expect" series. I would not recommend it.
Great resource!.......2007-05-26
As a first time mother-to-be, I found this book to be a great resource and loved the week-by-week format with detailed diagrams of the baby, information on what to expect with my own body, as well as descriptions of practical to-dos / not to-dos with each stage of the pregnancy. Although there is a decent amount of information about potential health issues, I actually found this to be very informative, as I wasn't familiar with many of these terms (I didn't find it to be 'scary' as many of the other reviewers indicated). I bought this book in conjunction with "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and highly recommend buying at least 2 books so you can take advantage of the best of each (W2EWYE has a great Q&A format).

Useful, practical info........2007-06-27
I am picky about parenting books but read this one through (ok, it was repetetive so skimmed it is more accurate). Lots of examples and practical use of the theory. I found it made me think about the ineffectiveness of certain battles I was having and helped me form a more clear idea of how to approach my 3 y.o. daughter. I have noticed a difference in more positive interactions between us since applying methods in this book.
an answer to prayer.......2007-06-03
As I read this book, I thought surely the author had met my son personally. It was like reading about my family. I firmly believe my son will one day be president of the debate team, get an "A" in drama class, and will probably be an attorney since he loves to argue. This book helped me with the daily/hourly testing of a strong willed child. It helped answer the questions of why I could not understand why he did the things he did. The techniques really work. Thank you, Robert MacKenzie!
A-MAZ-ING!.......2007-05-24
Slightly remedial and repititious in the beginning, but once you hit the "How To" chapter - WOW! Amazing results with our 3yo who was beginning to argue and debate the rules and push his way of doing things. It changed our crazy, emotional, stressful mornings (and evenings, and weekends) into special time over breakfast. I think our 3yo said it best when he said, "Hey mom, I got my coat on this morning and wasn't really, really mad!"
MacKenzie explains it all in clear-cut, easy to understand guidlines . . . just like his rules of discipline. Fantastic!
life saver.......2007-05-22
this book was fabulous! i was at the end of my rope with my 4 year old. endless arguing, giving chance after chance- this book brought the simple fact to light that its ok not to give one more chance. the book is an easy read with great examples.
helps with the chaos.......2007-05-20
I would recommend this book to any parent that is tired of the power struggles and discord that comes with raising a strong willed child. The title says it all, and the content tells you how to reinforce the limits without spanking or demeaning behavior. It does require effort, but no more effort than yelling and threatening without results. I saw results with this method the first day, although I was exhausted with all the escorting to the time out area. I have three children ages 9,5 and 4.
This book is not for any parent that thinks that the kid is the problem.

For despairing moms and dads everywhere, "Supernanny" Jo Frost may as well be wearing a Wonder Woman costume. Her no-nonsense rules--not tips, not advice, but rules--for consistently managing one's offspring leave no room for arguments (or wrestling matches). From her arms-akimbo stance on the book's cover, it's clear she's in charge, and ready to instruct all wishy-washy (overworked American) parents how to lay down the law in their own home. She offers her "top ten rules" for setting boundaries, managing mealtimes, even surviving toilet training, and it's mostly rock-solid, and peppered liberally with British wit. (For parents who obsess over their toddler's every meal, she warns: "It doesn't take long for them to work out the obvious: you can't make them eat.") Frost may not have a degree in child development, but she was raised in a stable, doting family, and has 15 years' experience taking care of tots, a combination which puts her way ahead of most parents. She may be firm, but by setting definite boundaries, she sets the stage for parenting to be more of a "joy" and much less of a "slog." You can raise your sippy cups to that. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
Meet Supernanny Jo Frost, a modern-day Mary Poppins here to rescue today's beleaguered parents by offering up her practical, road-tested methods of childrearing in an indispensable new book based on her upcoming ABC-TV series.
Jo Frost, a.k.a. Supernanny, is the answer to every stressed-out parent's dreams. In ABC's upcoming primetime TV series by the same name, Jo works miracles on problem children by dispensing hard-won wisdom and reassuring us that parents really do know best. The Supernanny method gives parents the know-how to tackle problem areas such as mealtime, bath time, bedtime, bedwetting, homework, sibling rivalry, aggressive behavior, or a child who just won't do what he or she is told to do.
Divided into action-oriented problem and solution sections, Supernanny will show parents how to restore harmony and authority in the home using the Supernanny's ten basic rules and her effective, no-nonsense approach to problem-solving. For example:
Problem: What if your child refuses to go to bed?
Supernanny Solution: Develop a bedtime routine so that the child can get used to a consistent pattern that she is not going to be able to change or manipulate. A routine will set up a calming sequence of events that will be designed to help the child relax.
Problem: Toilet-training Supernanny Solution: Prepare your child by taking any hint of shame or disgust out of what is simply a natural fact of life. Keep the door open, bring her into the bathroom with you, and explain what's happening, including the use of toilet paper and the washing of hands afterward.

good-in-desperate-times.......2007-06-28
This book is easy to read and to the point, no nonsense, you will love it...
I recommend it to all parents and granparent.....anyone who has to deal with children.
Eh, luke warm on this one.......2007-06-08
This is really much of the show re-hashed. I was excited by how pretty the book was and the typesetting and the photos but there is just no meat to this. I was hoping for more.
100% recommend this book.......2007-05-16
I am a nanny myself (2 boys ages 3 and 7)and have found this book to be extremely helpful because of Jo Frost's insight regarding what motivates a child's behavior, the parent/child relationship, the frustrations that children and parents sometimes feel, the dynamics of a household. Jo Frost respects and loves children and it shines through in her book. I personally would rather take advice from a person who has had 15 years hands on experience working with children of all ages and all types of backgrounds in all types of families, than listen to a child psychologist who may not have had that broad range of experience and may only rely at times on what they read in a textbook (no offense :) Most of the children that are in the area I work in are currently seeing therapists and psychologists, and I have seen no improvement in their behavior, or they improve one week and regress the next. (no offense :) But watch SuperNanny's show and while nobody is perfect, you have to admit that her techniques tend to work, and make a whole lot of sense. She just really understands and respects children, and that is a high priority when seeking to have a wonderful relationship with them. (This is only my opinion, not meant to offend anyone, have a wonderful day).
Super Book!.......2007-05-07
I gave this book to my daughter to use with my three year old grandson. She reported that it was the best book about discipline that she had read--and she has read many. She also reported that the author, Jo Frost, makes her points in very compassionate and humorous ways.
OK.......2007-04-07
This was an ok book, did not really tell us anything we did not know, and mostly uses "step or time outs" as discipline. Our daughter's school psychologist (and many other experts now) do not recommend time outs-so it was not that enlightening. Modern day form of strict discipline.
Not very creative and resourcefulness of "The Nanny" is very limited.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
The last thing new parents can find time for is quiet reading, so many helpful books on infant care rely on bullet points and a "let's get to the point" writing style. Tracy Hogg, a neonatal nurse, teacher, and mother of two, uses these techniques to good effect in Secrets of the Baby Whisperer. Focusing on newborns and their parents, her simple programs are a blend of intelligent intuition and methods based on years of experience. The first half of the book is devoted to E.A.S.Y--her name for creating a structured daily routine for you and your baby that makes the most of your baby's awake times and also leaves time just for you. These concepts aren't designed to force your bundle of joy into not following her body's needs, but rather to create a feasible middle ground between total rigidity and on-demand food and sleep (and no time for mom to shower). If it still strikes you as too regimented, keep reading. The author makes room for differences in personal style and includes short quizzes to determine whether you're a "planner" or a "winger", and what level of daily structure you are likely to find helpful. In the same chapter, she identifies five general temperaments of infants, how to get an accurate feel for yours, and what methods of care are likely to be the most effective for his temperament. Her statement that babies prefer routine is backed up by research from the University of Denver. While most of the book relies on anecdotes to get the points across, Hogg does find room to back up some of her statements with quotes from various researchers and institutions. Included at the end of the book are assurances that E.A.S.Y. can be followed even with a colicky baby or one who's been ruling the roost for the first few months. Frustrated parents might like to read the last page first: "all the baby-whispering advice in the world is useless unless you're having a good time being a parent" is an excellent reminder to enjoy this time with all of its ups and downs. --Jill Lightner
Book Description
“TRACY HOGG HAS GIVEN PARENTS A GREAT GIFT–the ability to develop early insight into their child’s temperament.”
–Los Angeles Family
When Tracy Hogg’s Secrets of the Baby Whisperer was first published, it soared onto bestseller lists across the country. Parents everywhere became “whisperers” to their newborns, amazed that they could actually communicate with their baby within weeks of their child’s birth. Tracy gave parents what for some amounted to a miracle: the ability to understand their baby’s every coo and cry so that they could tell immediately if the baby was hungry, tired, in real distress, or just in need of a little TLC. Tracy also dispelled the insidious myth that parents must go sleepless for the first year of a baby’s life–because a happy baby sleeps through the night. Now you too can benefit from Tracy’s more than twenty years’ experience. In this groundbreaking book, she shares simple, accessible programs in which you will learn:
• E.A.S.Y.–how to get baby to eat, play, and sleep on a schedule that will make every member of the household’s life easier and happier.
• S.L.O.W.–how to interpret what your baby is trying to tell you (so you don’t try to feed him when he really wants a nap).
• How to identify which type of baby yours is–Angel, Textbook, Touchy, Spirited, or Grumpy–and then learn the best way to interact with that type.
• Tracy’s Three Day Magic–how to change any and all bad habits (yours and the baby’s) in just three days.
At the heart of Tracy’s simple but profound message: treat the baby as you would like to be treated yourself. Reassuring, down-to-earth, and often flying in the face of conventional wisdom, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer promises parents not only a healthier, happier baby but a more relaxed and happy household as well.

A MUST for First Time Moms.......2007-06-21
Practical, logical, LOVING advice guiding insecure first time moms through the first days, weeks and months of their baby's life. Hogg teaches you about feeding schedules, sleeping patterns and even how to "read" your baby's cry. It's like she can read your child's mind. This is not the ONLY book I read. I simultaneously read SEVEN newborn parenting books during that first week of my son's life and THIS is the advice that worked best for me (AND BELIEVE ME authors differ on their views). You don't have to be rigid with Hogg's advice, in fact you shouldn't be. Every baby is different. BUT this book can and will help ANY mother make it through those first few hours, days and weeks with your newborn. Baby Whisperer is about understanding your baby with plenty of advice that works--not rules you must follow. I was so insecure when I had my first baby. My son was born the same time this book came out. What a blessing! Some of this stuff just comes naturally to some people. Not me. I wanted someone to hold my hand. Tracy Hogg did just that. My son was sleeping through the night in no time. She even teaches you how to change a diaper without your baby freaking out--you just tell the baby what you're going to do ahead of time in a normal conversational voice, go figure, it works. Any of my friends who had babies around the same time that disagreed with Tracy Hogg's "get the baby on a schedule" advice are the same friends who always said "I just don't get it, my baby has day and night mixed up." Well of course, if you let your baby sleep all day, he is going to be awake all night. Read this book and have peace of mind.
Read with caution.......2007-06-07
I read this book when I was pregnant with my first child and I wonder if it did more harm than good. The book is filled with useful advice for new parents, but it caused me a *lot* of stress because my daughter simply did not fit into any of Tracy's categories and would not conform to EASY no matter how hard I tried. I ended up being very frustrated because Tracy made it sound like it should all be so easy, but it was not in our case! My daughter was simply a "high maintenance" baby until about 9-12 months of age, when she became a sweet toddler.
After reading numerous other books, especially about fussiness and sleeping, by authors like Sears, Ferber, Weissbluth, and Mindell, I realized that any baby book is mostly someone's best opinion. If you read enough, you will find advice given by any one of these "experts" which contradicts with at least one other author. So whom do you believe? Ultimately you can try many different suggestions and find what works best for you. With my second child I am a lot more relaxed, knowing that I can follow my own intuition and not try to conform him to a method or book. I also now realize that babies go through stages all the time, and just when you think you have a certain area taken care of, they progress into something new.
I think baby books are good in giving new parents principles, but in the end, trust your own instincts and listen to your baby, rather than trying to fit the baby into a box. Probably Tracy's best advice in this book is at the end, when she reminds parents that the baby stage is just a "blip" on the radar screen of life. This is so true--enjoy your baby as much as you can instead of stressing over perfect parenting, because that stage is over so quickly!
Book helps you understand baby & give a sense of control, ease.......2007-05-31
This book really helped in establishing a form of schedule to follow for me & my newborn. Her EASY approach allows you to not only form a plan for you & your baby, but it really helped me to better read my baby & interpret her needs.
With the EASY plan I knew what to expect next. E is for Eating, A for Activity, S for Sleep & Y for You. It helped eliminate my guessing of why she was crying - was she hungry, tired, etc.? After following the plan I knew that if she already ate & had some activity time, then sleep is next - I'd lay her down & she'd be out like a light. It allowed me time to either take a nap with her, take a shower, make dinner - I'd actually have time for ME!
This book was a blessing to me in that it allowed me to feel more in control of what was going on with my baby & plan on what to expect next. I could plan things better instead of being apprehensive to plan anything because I wasn't sure what would be going on with the baby. I soon felt like I actually knew what I was doing! It helped me relax and enjoy my baby instead of wondering if I was meeting her needs.
Also, if you're one who likes schedules or are a type A personality - you've GOT to buy this book!
A God sent.......2007-05-22
I consider this book "the bible" for all mothers; a must have. Well written, easy and helpful read even for the mum who is about to tear her hair out and has no time to breathe! It really got me back on track and in control simply and matter of factly.
Some good tips.......2007-05-16
I read many books on colic and sleep habits when my son was very young.
This one had some good tips in it, but they were more common sense than anything.
It is so important to respect a baby's need for sleep, early bedtimes, and a schedule. I recommend "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth.
He does allow for "spoiling and doting" until four months of age, but quite frankly, all these big fans of Dr. Sears are going to end up with alot of sleepless nights and a child who sleeps in their bed with them until college. Our child is very fond of us, has slept in his own crib since he was born, and was sleeping 12 hours a night since he was several months old. You can have your "attachment parenting."
But this book is worth a try, I think.

Book Description
It's reality-check time! You are at least five months into your tour of parenting duty by now. The complexity of child-training has begun to come into focus. You have learned that as your baby matures both constant and variable factors continually influence his or her development. What behaviors can and should you expect from your pretoddler? Feeding time for your pretoddler, for example, is now more than a response controlled by a sucking reflex. For the pretoddler, mealtime is part of a very complex, conscious interaction between what the child does and what his parents expect him to do. Right and wrong conduct will be encouraged, discouraged, and guided when necessary. In fact, right and wrong patterns of behavior will now be part of your baby's entire day. That's why feeding time, waketime and sleeptime provide wonderful opportunities for training and Babywise Book II will guide you all the way, from the high chair to playpen, from the living room to the back yard. This series teaches the practical side of introducing solids food, managing mealtimes, nap transitions, traveling with your infant, setting reasonable limits while encourage healthy exploration and much more. You will learn how to teach your child to use sign language for basic needs, a tool proven to help stimulate cognitive growth and advance communication. Apply the principles and your friends and relatives will be amazed at the alertness, contentedness and happy disposition of your baby

I love this BOOK!!!!.......2007-06-25
I used this book with both my children 11 years ago. I was so excited to blow the dust off of it and use it again with my new baby! It's be a while and I'm a litle rusty so I wonderd if it would work again. It did!! This book and Baby Wise have made my home so enjoyable. I needed it being a Mom again at 40.
Be wise with Babywise and it WILL work for you!!.......2007-06-16
I read this book with my first son, and being a new mom it was hard for me to follow this structure to the T. I kept re-reading the book to find all the answers for my son's specific situations, and was getting frustrated when he wasn't sleeping through the night at 8 weeks. However, I had to learn that the guidelines are GREAT, but are meant to be flexible for your child's needs, and parental assessment is key. My son had colic, and I was nervous to let him cry all the time, but learned that no matter what I did he was going to cry, so I let him. Soon I realized he needed to sleep A LOT more than I thought, and by 4 months he slept through the night 12 hours solid! Without Babywise I would not have had a guideline of how often to nurse, how long to nurse, and how many naps my son needed. The PDF method was my saving grace!!!
NOW I have my second son, and I was able to follow the Babywise method a lot more closely right away (still using parental assessment for my child's needs). Having more experience, not being a nervous new mom, and having an 18 month old to watch after as well, I can follow the Babywise methods with confidence. In doing so he has successfully been sleeping through the night (8-10 hours) since 9 weeks old. He is happy when he's awake and our household is very peaceful considering there is a newborn and a 20 month old residing here!! Especially if you plan on having more than one child this book is a must! 3 CHEERS FOR BABYWISE!!!Thank you!!
Great addition to the series!.......2007-06-10
After following Baby Wise book one, my daughter was successful at sleeping through the night by 7 weeks! She followed the first book almost to a T! So I ordered this second book, and I really like the ideas especially when it comes to High Chair manners and feeding solids. I also, like how they deal with the heart of the child and not just behaviors! Great book for any parent, whether you've done the first book or not!
Child Training Is Ok Folks.......2007-03-23
It may not be your choice for how to raise your child, it may not be how your child responds... But folks, we are all different and one thing for certain, Christ taught us not to judge, lest we be judged... All families are different and there is NO NO NO ABUSE advocated in this book!
From a devout Dr. Sears, LLL, attachment parenting Mom--Reb Bradley and Rick Fugate are OK too. This is a method for a more structured family. It isn't for me, but as I say, I do advocate the Child Training Tips in Bradley's and Fugate's books, even for a far less structured mom.
Every family has a system... this may or may not be yours. It is an interesting and insightful read.
OKay, but not what I expected..........2007-01-11
I swore to all my new Mommy friends that this was THE sleep book for them. When my son hit 5 months, I thought it would be only natural to following along the Babywise method for continuing his excellent sleep habits. While the book does address sleep patterns in older babies, it was focused more on eating, discipline, play, and other topics. I was hoping for more of the continuum described. Oh well, it was only a few $$ so worth those.

Book Description
Men are right. The “relationship talk” does not help. Dr. Patricia Love’s and
Dr. Steven Stosny’s How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It
reveals the stunning truth about marital happiness:
Love is not about better communication.
It's about connection.
You'll never get a closer relationship
with your man by talking to him like you
talk to one of your girlfriends.
Male emotions are like women's sexuality:
you can't be too direct too quickly.
There are four ways to connect with a man:touch, activity, sex, routines.
Men want closer marriages just as much as women do,but not if they has to act like a woman.
Talking makes women move closer;
it makes men move away.
The secret of the silent male is this:
his wife supplies the meaning in his life.
The stunning truth about love is that talking doesn’t help.
Have you ever had this conversation with your spouse?
Wife: “Honey, we need to talk about us.”
Husband: “Do we have to?”
Drs. Patricia Love and Steven Stosny have studied this all-too-familiar dynamic between men and women and have reached a truly shocking conclusion. Even with the best of intentions, talking about your relationship doesn’t bring you together, and it will eventually drive you apart.
The reason for this is that underneath most couples’ fights, there is a biological difference at work. A woman’s vulnerability to fear and anxiety makes her draw closer, while a man’s subtle sensitivity to shame makes him pull away in response. This is why so many married couples fall into the archetypal roles of nagging wife/stonewalling husband, and why improving a marriage can’t happen through words.
How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It teaches couples how to get closer in ways that don’t require “trying to turn a man into a woman.” Rich in stories of couples who have turned their marriages around, and full of practical advice about the behaviors that make and break marriages, this essential guide will help couples find love beyond words.

Helpful Facts.......2007-06-27
As someone who is usually in some spiritual conversation about marriage and relationships, this book has been so helpful. The concrete differences between the sexes are important to know and not try to fix. The second half of the book starts out with compassion being the answer. It is the only answer.
I Love It. I gave it away and have to buy a new copy for myself

This book is very well-written and is very helpful for couples working on making their marriage better. Like all marriage books, there are some generalizations in this book, but overall the ideas expressed in this book are backed by research and the experience of the authors.
As a student completing his dual masters in marriage and family therapy and mental health counseling, and also as a husband, I found the book helpful and useful and it rang true for me in many ways. My wife also enjoyed the book as well, and found it mostly accurate and helpful.

This book is soo cool. My friends and I have a ball reading this book. It has great content
Great for Beginners.......2007-04-18
This book was very helpful. When in doubt I turn to reading and I was completely clueless on how to please a man orally. I had no idea what to do before I read this book. I'm surprized my boyfriend put up with me feeble atempts, after learning how to perform correctly. I know he greatly appreciated this bit of literature, even though he laughed when I first recieved it in the mail.
I'd say it's an excellent book for beginners, and help me get the basics down real quick. Although if your looking for something more advance, I would probably try a different book.
Fun! Fun! Fun!.......2007-03-26
I found this book to be really fun!
This book has fun and flirty illustrations throughout. I found it to be rich with quick tidbits that are called Sadie Sez they are neat to read. This book covers anything you need to know head to toe to please your man! It even has backdoor play and helps your relationship open new erotic doors. It will help with lube choices and fun cute names for different techniques she describes them in full detail and pictures! Tickle His Pickle by Sadie Allison is amazing and will even cover impotence in men and give us (the partner) "help" in deciding how to "help" him through it wink wink nudge nudge. As well as being a nice quick read it is a small book so you can fit in your carry on luggage or purse even a backpack. I would highly recommend this book to every type of couple or non couple. She has a few safe sex ideas thrown about in the book. (As her little friendly reminder). High quality material covered in this book. Tickle His Pickle written by Sadie Allison is not for someone without a funny bone (it will make you giggle at her creative take on the male anatomy)! I bought another copy to give away to my friend! Worth every penny I spent to buy this! Just a little recommendation check out her other books she is a spectacular author! Just type in her name and pow books written by her. Enjoy!

In their excellent (and hefty) resource guide, The Baby Book, attachment parenting specialists William Sears and Martha Sears have provided new parents with their approach to every aspect of baby care basics, from newborns to toddlers. Attachment parenting is a gentle, reasonable approach to parenting that stresses bonding with your baby, responding to her cues, breastfeeding, "wearing" your baby, and sharing sleep with your child. For those parents who worry about negative effects of this attention, the Sears say, "Spoiling is what happens when you leave something (or some person) alone on the shelf--it spoils."
Book Description
Brought thoroughly up-to-date-with the latest information on everything from diapering to daycare, from midwifery to hospital "birthing rooms," from postpartum nutrition to infant development-THE BABY BOOK remains the one must-have resource for today's new parents.

Customer Reviews:
This was the best out of all I read.......2007-06-27
I am a new parent who needed to know everything from step one. I read five or six books, and this was the most helpful, especially if you are planning on nursing. I am not into attachment parenting or co-sleeping (a bassinette by the bed: OK. Baby sleeping in parents bed after the age of five months or so: Not my thing) and I still considered this book the most informative.
Basic Principles.......2007-06-26
This book is great for new parents, it has many of the fundamentals of a great baby book and has all the basic principles. It outlines the attachment parenting style - and frowns about the cry-it-out method, which I totally agree with. Therefore, I thought a lot of the ideas were very basic and common knowledge. However, it is a great place to start and a great read if you are sick of hearing how you are spoiling your child or shouldn't let them sleep in bed with you. This book encourages all of the principles that feel right to do as a new mom!
Excellent Resource, Wonderful Baby Shower Book.......2007-06-21
This is the best shower gift we recieved. We love this book. It helped us realize that we could love our baby unconditionally and meet our baby's needs without questioning or second guessing what we wanted to do.
No more listening to bad advice! We have the support we needed from William and Martha Sears. They really understand and wrote the book on the kind of parents we want to be.
Parents of 4 y.o daughter and 2 year old son
Dr & Martha Sears are great!.......2007-06-13
I wish I had started off with the Sear's books! I tried the cry it out method and the other guides but they just did not fit with what my instincts told me to do. The Sears books work and feel right. You get the advice of a doctor and the wisdom of a couple that has actually experienced the trials of raising a large family. When I told my mother about the negative comments recieved from another mom when I told her I liked Sears; her response was great. She said the man is a professional icon and a father of a large family, the worst thing he could be accused of is pushing parents to be kind. This book is a complete guide to all things infant and I do mean all things. I used it regularly and loved it, I also loved the American Pediatrics book for a super illness guide.
Mom to be! Great guide for parents!!!.......2007-06-08
I'm not a mom yet, but will be in about 2 months. This is an amazing guide, any question that I had it's been answered in this book. No wonder why so many people have good opinions about it. Seems that Dr. Sears have lots of experience. I fully recommend it!!!
