As the mother of the bride, I really enjoyed the details in this book, especially the warnings about some common mistakes made by mothers of the bride. It also gave me great planning details for the things I'll be helping with (since I don't have time to look at 10,000 bridal websites to get info, this book saved me time!), like the cake, the invitations, the flowers. Using this book makes the process fun, which my daughter loves, and it keeps me organized. I absolutely love it, and I love that Sharon Naylor focuses on the fact that this planning time is not just about the wedding, but about the relationships between mother and daughter (and son-in-law) in the future. That really gave me a lot to think about, and it helped me come up with great ways to welcome my son-in-law into the family. Another great book by Ms. Naylor!

I highly recommend this book to any hostess or mother of the bride. I am going up to West Point Military Academy this weekend to finalize preparations for my daughter's party. Details I never would have thought to ask, but certainly appear to be most important, were brought to my attention. There are also areas to document deposits and conversations with various vendors who will be hired for the party. I suggest that you write in pencil, because changes can always be erased. This is a remarkable guide to effectly carry out plans in a timely, correct fashion. I have browsed through books over the last few months. This has given me everything I need.

This is an easy read book which i enjoyed very much. I have recommended it to many people native and non native alike. It reminded me a lot of my "outdoor adventures" growing up in Western Alaska. The way the story is written gives insight into the life of Nederkook as it was back then, with no need for a lot of explination. Are there anymore stories narrated by Nederkook? i'd like to learn more about Nederkook's history.
Edna Wilder (whats her native name by the way) has done an excellent job.

The is truly a fabulous book. When her mother Nedercook broke her hip at the remarkable age of 109, Edna Wilder took the opportunity to record stories and memories from her childhood. Years later, Wilder developed her notes into book format after attending a simple magazine article writing course at the University of Alaska.

The book documents what life was like when Nedercook was about ten years old and living the traditional Eskimo lifestyle that her people lived prior to direct contact with Europeans. Her people, who lived at Stoney Point near Nome, Alaska, led a difficult life, and survival depended on the availability of a number of species of animals, not to mention the weather, which at times would disrupt the general cycle of animal availability. Such a strong dependence on these two factors is a major element of Nedercook's recollections, but has harsh as life was, it was by no means miserable. There were many things for the young Nedercook to do, and when she was not assisting her mother with chores or accompanying her father when he went out to fish, she play or more importantly--as it was her duty to perpetuate the history and legends of her people--listening to her father or mother tell stories--stories which would have been long forgotten had it not been for this book.

Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed this book and how it has depended my understanding of First Nations culture. I urge everyone to read it.

I'm not sure the original had as many verses as this- but the number makes for a good bout of goofiness and lots of fun illustrations.

We start out with the bare cupboards- bare because the mice had dined in the pantry, complete with a waiter, and the dead dog. Poor Mother Hubbard tries to do right by her dog by immediately dressing in black and buying a coffin, but the darned dog had tricked her and wasn't dead after all! phew! Instead, Mother Hubbard goes shopping everywhere for her dear dog- to the barber, the the tailor, the cobbler, the fruit stand, the tavern- but always, when she returns home, the dog is doing something else and doesn't need coffin, the coat, the shoes, the fruit, the wine. But we do get to see the silliness of the various shop owners and Mother Hubbard in an amazing amount of finery including a fantastic cowgirl outfit all "little old ladies" should consider wearing. At least now and then.

A neater version of the classic poem.......2004-04-07

This is one interesting version of the classic poem, "Old Mother Hubbard." One interesting detail for the verse, "But when she came back the poor dog was dead" is that the picture shows that the dog wrote a note saying he couldn't live without a bone. An interesting comment on the picture for the undertaker verse is that the coffin is shown wrapped up like a present. In fact, it looks to me like a gift box of chocolates. James Marshall has extended the classic poem to include his own verses(well, it is an easy poem for which to make up your own verses).

A classic childrens tale redone into a great piece ofliterature for any young child! Great pictures! END

I have been reading Wonderful You to my 4 1/2 year old boy since he was born. It still brings me to tears because it is so beautiful and so true ("I made a wish and you came true and now I love you so."). I didn't know how much it meant to him until he included a reference to it on his mother's day card this year. I believe it reminds him how wonderful he is and how much I love him. I am looking for a similar book for my infant daughter, but haven't been able to find such a simple tale that speaks to and from the heart as this book.

Currently searching for another copy of this book. I bought this book for my daughter when she was 6months old. I read it to her so many times, we memorized it. My daughter is about to turn 8 years old this month and although I've lost the book, I still recite the words: "I'm filled with the wonder of wonderful you and I love you more each day"

I purchased this book for a friend who had just had her first baby, and loved it so much I bought one to save for the child I hoped my husband & I would have one day! As it says in the book, "I made a wish, and you came true, and now I love you so.." It brings tears to my eyes because this book is truly wonderful for every parent and child, but is especially fitting and poignant for us since we waited, and hoped for our baby for a long time! This is a perfect gift for everyone you know who is trying to have a baby,expecting, adopting, or already a parent. My daughter has heard it since she was born, and knows it by heart already. Just receiting the sweet rhyme of the book settles her down, and her little hands can hold it easily. She loves the colorful, fun characters. It truly is a beautiful little book that tells your child just how "wonderful" you think they are. Without a doubt, you should buy this Book!

The sweetest childrens book I ever read to anyone!.......1999-09-19

I am always looking for something to read to my grandchildren so when my grandaughter saw the polka dot bears and was drawn to them I checked inside. This book is wonderful! The graphics are clear, easy and colorful enough for a small child to see what is going on and still entertaining for older children. But the beauty of this book is the words. Kate Gleeson has taken the feelings a parent (or grandparent) can have for a child and put them down in the simplest, purest form. We read this book every time she is here. She is six now and can really read the words, but it isn't necessary, she has known it by heart since she was four. What a great way to give kids self esteem. Read them a book about what they mean to you. Buy this book and treasure it. Thank you Kate Gleeson, where ever you are.

From Preschool to Graduation.......2003-01-24

I bought this for my son the month he started preschool. I opened it when I received the order, read it, and bawled. With the tears pouring down my face, I wrote to him in the front cover of the book, value of the book be damned! I told him the miracle of my love and my feelings about getting him this far in life. On his Graduation Day from high school, I will read the book again, most likely cry again, and proceed to put those feelings into words in the back cover. This will be a gift from just me, not Dad, or Brother, or Sis; just me. Maybe this will make it priceless to him. I hope he treasures it as I do him. Baby, if you ever see this, I LOVE YOU! Mommy

Mother Wonderful's Cheesecakes.......2000-05-13

Mother Wonderful is a quirky and hilarious cheesecake genius. She begins her book by describing how cheesecakes saved her marriage- the general idea is that while a youthful hour glass figure my tempt a man away from the fold, sweet cheesecake concoctions will always bring him back.

This is the only cheesecake book I know that gives away trade secrets. While other cheesecake books have beautiful pictures, the recipes never give enough details- and my cheesecakes never come out picture perfect. Myra Chanin does not offer temping pictures, but time tested, detailed directions. She gives away the secrets of how to keep your crusts crunchy, and the cheesecake custardy and uncracked.

Most of the cheesecake recipes in the book are award winners. Many are creative and original. I made her Jamoca cheesecake last Thanksgiving and I was told by five people that it was the best thing they had ever eaten. Pumpkin pies went uneaten while the entire cheesecake disappeared before breakfast.

This book is worth reading as well as using. But before you bake remember Mother Wonderful's advice, do not bake when you are depressed. Take to your bed with someone amusing instead.
