Just another typical manipulative book by a so-called christian psychologist giving her own personal 'bible interpretation' of what marriage should be, using all the usual 'techniques' and lacking knowledge of what marriage is really all about. Despite the emphasis and talk about "submission", what you will really find is how to deceptively use "power" to get what you want.

A must read..........2006-11-10

This is an excellent book. I recommend that everyone read this book whether you are just getting married or been married for 50 years. It helped me a lot. My marriage is getting better because I practice what she writes in this book!!!

Hero.......2006-07-17

It is a very informative book, and looks at the marital relationship from both points of view - from husbands view and wifes view. I like the fact that it is unbiased, quite often we buy books to re-inforce our own perceptions and ideas in order to justify the way we think and what we believe, but this is a challenge to both men and womens way of thinking. Bible based and edifying at the same time.

This book, with all of its scriptural references, is a real treasure and sheds brilliant light on the unique role of being a Christian wife. I am in a 2nd marriage (married 6 months) and want very much to head this marriage down the path that God intends. I read several passages to my husband, who is also a Christian, and he agreed that Dr. Slattery has provided accurate insights to the needs of husbands. This book just "jumped off" the bookstore shelf. When I read the foreword and introduction to the book, I realized the challenge I have of being a woman with a strong personality who also desires to be a partner and an encourager, would be addressed in this book. Dr. Slattery did a great job of encouraging me to be all God would have me to be while also acknowledging my husband's role as "head of our household". Her understanding and interpretation of God's Word on this subject is encouraging and freeing! I am purchasing additional books for my female friends and family members. I highly recommend that wives AND their husbands read this book; it is a wonderful basis for discussion that can bring renewed energy and intimacy to a marriage.

A little soul searching..........2004-04-13

This is an amazing book! Yes, Julie deals with submission, but more than anything she drives home the point that we are each responsible for our own actions. The moral behind the book is similar to the old saying, "Don't SEARCH for the perfect friend; BECOME the perfect friend!" It is something that is so easy for anyone (in this case, wives) to forget--it is easy to blame all of your problems or arguments on the things that your husband does wrong. Julie helps the reader to take responsibility for her own actions and attitudes. Wives should encourage, not manipulate; pray for their husbands, not nag them. She opened my eyes about so many things that I had been doing without even thinking about them! Thanks, Julie!

The title of the book says it all. This book is less than 200 pages long, yet it covers every area of marriage. The book offers guidance to young Christians in choosing a marriage partner, to married couples in how to have a lasting marriage and to divorced couples in how to receive God's love and forgiveness and a second chance at marriage. The writer discusses marriage from a purely Bible-based perspective rather than from some human opinions. Passages quoted from the Bible are actually reproduced so that the reader can have access to those passages without the need for a Bible while reading the book. The author asserts that marriage can be enjoyed 'till death do us part' if individuals would simply follow instructions outlined in the Bible for choosing and relating to a marriage partner. The book is useful for personal or group study, as in a Sunday school setting or a marriage workshop. Every Christian ought to have a copy of this book on their bookshelf.
