Book Description
The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban's backyard
Anyone who despairs of the individual's power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan's treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schoolsespecially for girlsthat offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson's quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

Tea to good to not drink.......2007-06-29
Excellent form and a beautiful story. This is a not to be missed insightful book. You will get the real inside story without the propaganda machine. Do yourself a favor. Drink deeply. With a society looking for people to look up to, the author comes to mind.
Mortenson for President! (And the Nobel Peace Prize)!!.......2007-06-28
This is one of the most amazing books I have ever come across. Mortenson's humanitarian mission and all of the remarkable journeys he embarks upon to realize his dream are so astonishing that it's hard to believe this is a non-fictional account. His story is beautifully written with a perfect blend of history, facts, narrative, and emotion. All of the characters are captivating and each individual's role in achieving Mortenson's goal is eloquently captured. This book should be found not only in classrooms and libraries worldwide, but in the hands of politicians and soldiers as well. Mortenson's incredible mission to "promote peace...one school at a time" is a brilliant and exemplary way to establish the foundations of peace and harmony for generations to come. Countless humanitarians, scholars, and anti-war activists discuss education as the key to establishing enduring peace, but Mortenson has the heart and courage to actually put such idealistic thoughts into action. The path he is paving towards world peace is admirable in its tenacity and beautiful in its simplicity. His passion and dedication to the most isolated and impoverished of people is moving and inspirational. Three Cups of Tea provides a much needed glimmer of hope for our future.
Inspiring optimism.......2007-06-27
I absolutely love this book! I own 9 copies of it and pass it around to everyone! This story of what one man can do to change the perception of American in the Muslim world is so inspiring. My children are also inspired and are doing a fund raising event this summer to send money to "Pennies for Peace", which is a fundraising arm of this grass-roots organization. Please read, be inspired, and make a donation to The Central Asia Institute. The awesome work they do cannot be done without private funding.

Three Cups of Tea: one man's mission to promote peace..........2007-06-27
This is one of the most thought provoking, hard-to-put-down books I have ever read. As a christian, it has changed my entire thinking about Islam and how we should go about stemming terrorism . A must read for every American. Greg Mortenson is a true World Hero.

Book Description
A mother's love leads to a mother's dream -- every mother's dream -- for her child to live life to its fullest.
A deceptively simple, powerful ode to the potential of love and the potential in life, Someday is the book you'll want to share with someone else...today.
Customer Reviews:
The best book to be given as a gift or to remind yourself..........2007-06-28
This book is my favorite gift giving item. I give it at baby showers, birthday parties, thank you gifts, anniversaries...I give this book to anyone who has a child. When I bought it to read to my girls it wasn't until I sat down and read it that I realized how powerful it is. It even brought tears to my husband's eyes. This story is a touching reminder to all parents to enjoy every moment. I am not exagerating when I say it changed our view on parenting, and made "not now, I am busy" words of the past in our family.
Beautiful story.......2007-06-28
I received this book as a gift from my mom for my first Mother's Day. I cried. How could I not? The mom in the story is both me and my mom. Reading it from the different perspectives makes it all the more touching. As I read it to my new little girl, I dream and remember.
a very special book.......2007-06-27
Just bought this book as a gift for my daughter on her 1st birthday. Have read through it a few times and get teary every time! Thank goodness she's still just a baby! But I know how quickly time will go and this is a sweet book reminding me how precious our time together is. I think she'll appreciate it SOMEDAY!
Such a touching book!.......2007-06-27
I love, love, love this book. I wish I wrote it. I have bought a bunch of copies, for myself, my friends who have little girls, and a cousin who is about to have a baby.
Really nice, and makes me tear up!!.......2007-06-26
This is a nice story. The "circle of life", so to speak. It is a good tool to help you child understand how life progresses and how generations relate to each other at different stages in life.

Book Description
This is the story of Charley, a child of divorce who is always forced to choose between his mother and his father. He grows into a man and starts a family of his own. But one fateful weekend, he leaves his mother to secretly be with his father - and she dies while he is gone. This haunts him for years. It unravels his own young family. It leads him to depression and drunkenness. One night, he decides to take his life. But somewhere between this world and the next, he encounters his mother again, in their hometown, and gets to spend one last day with her - the day he missed and always wished he'd had. He asks the questions many of us yearn to ask, the questions we never ask while our parents are alive. By the end of this magical day, Charley discovers how little he really knew about his mother, the secret of how her love saved their family, and how deeply he wants the second chance to save his own.

for one more day.......2007-06-30
The plot seems too ordinary at first but quickly picks up ending with a great lesson learned. It teaches not to take a mother for granted even if at times they can be unbearable. This definitely makes you analyze the relationship with your mother and thank her everyday.
Thought Provoking.......2007-06-25
The beginning of this book, while very well written and captivating had me rolling my eyes in a gesture of "here we go again, another pity party" - however by the end of the book, the only thing rolling were the tears down my face.
This book will cause you to re-evaluate the way you have treated your mother, and/or loved ones, and remind you that it is important to show your appreciation for those you care about before it is too late.
Quick Read and a Feel Good Book.......2007-06-24
I enjoyed Tuesday's with Morie but did not enjoy The Five People you Meet in Heaven. I was a little hesitant to pick up this book since I didn't enjoy five people. I read for One More Day in one short evening and enjoyed it. I think everyone can relate to the reviewing regrets but this book also reviews good times as well. The final message of repairing relationships and the preciousness of life was clear. I enjoyed the method that the story was told with confusion of Chick when he meets his mother. I think this is worth reading and would recommend it to others.
A short condensed book yet still it has that certain thing that Albom brings to his books........2007-06-22
The first book I read by Albom was "Tuesdays With Morrie" which I had to read
for my ap english class. I thought it was so touching and heart felt. It really made me think about life. Albom brought that same feeling into his book "For One More Day". I thought the book was pretty good and I liked the moral it had to it. It was said or talked about in Albom's book "Tuesdays With Morrie" that if you new all the rules or answers to all the question about life then you would never take anything for granted. That is what is perfectly displayed in "For One More Day." The character Charley "Chick" Benetto feels that he has hurt everyone around him and that he should just get rid of himself to make it all stop. He later finds that family, life, and happiness are the most precious things you can have.
thank you for your time,
Loran
For One Moe Day.......2007-06-11
Not as good as the other books.
An interesting point of view not usually seen from a man's perspective.
The end did not fit the book--did not link with it and felt as if it was tacked on at the last minute. It is a good summer read.

David J. Pelzer's mother, Catherine Roerva, was, he writes in this ghastly, fascinating memoir, a devoted den mother to the Cub Scouts in her care, and somewhat nurturant to her children--but not to David, whom she referred to as "an It." This book is a brief, horrifying account of the bizarre tortures she inflicted on him, told from the point of view of the author as a young boy being starved, stabbed, smashed face-first into mirrors, forced to eat the contents of his sibling's diapers and a spoonful of ammonia, and burned over a gas stove by a maniacal, alcoholic mom. Sometimes she claimed he had violated some rule--no walking on the grass at school!--but mostly it was pure sadism. Inexplicably, his father didn't protect him; only an alert schoolteacher saved David. One wants to learn more about his ordeal and its aftermath, and now he's written a sequel, The Lost Boy, detailing his life in the foster-care system.
Though it's a grim story, A Child Called "It" is very much in the tradition of Chicken Soup for the Couple's Soul and the many books in that upbeat series, whose author Pelzer thanks for helping get his book going. It's all about weathering adversity to find love, and Pelzer is an expert witness.
Book Description
This book chronicles the unforgettable account of one of the most severe child abuse cases in California history. It is the story of Dave Pelzer, who was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother: a mother who played tortuous, unpredictable games--games that left him nearly dead. He had to learn how to play his mother's games in order to survive because she no longer considered him a son, but a slave; and no longer a boy, but an "it." Dave's bed was an old army cot in the basement, and his clothes were torn and raunchy. When his mother allowed him the luxury of food, it was nothing more than spoiled scraps that even the dogs refused to eat. The outside world knew nothing of his living nightmare. He had nothing or no one to turn to, but his dreams kept him alive--dreams of someone taking care of him, loving him and calling him their son.
Customer Reviews:
boring and terribly written.......2007-06-18
don't get me wrong - i've read plenty of books about child abuse (i reccomend "the lottery rose") which i loved and that really affected me. this was not one of them.
which is too bad, because pelzer could have done so much with his material. instead i got thoroughly sick of the terrible, over-done writting (it seems his mother "sneers" everything she says. now i hate that word) and i was amazed at just how boring pelzer had managed to make his story. the entire book was just story after story of the ways his mom figured out to torture him. through his terrible bravery, poor david suffers, blames god, hates his father, hates his mother, bemoans his terrible fate. then the same thing happens all over again. the book just screams out for pity. it's melodramatic and stupid. i ended up skimming through most of it. if you want a book to make ppl more aware of child abuse, find someone who can actually write.
The Coolest Review Ever..........2007-06-06
"This is the best book on the subject of child abuse that I have ever read as the reader moves with David through, fear, loss, isolation, pain, and rage to eventually hope, the dark world of the abused child becomes painfully clear. We become aware of the child's cry through David's eyes, ears, and body." This story took place in California (in the towns). The main characters in this story is the main person David which this whole story is based on, his mother who is the main problem, hiss dad who saved him from having to stay in foster care any longer, his to brothers who witnessed anything that happened to David, the nursing teacher who has helped David get through all of this through the situation, the principle who helped David tell the cops what really was happening, and also the cop who had saved David and he got to live his life like a real child again. This story is like in the 1990's. The revolution of this story is that David finally gets saved from all the abuse and finally gets to live like a normal kid should by telling the police about what was going on. How this problem is solved is that David finally tells the cops on his mom and that he goes into foster care but wasn't going so well because he was getting into trouble so then he finally lives with his dad. What happens in this story is that this little boy David lives with his mom, dad, and to brother but then his parents split and mom started drinking and always made David do a lot of tasks well if he didn't do those things then he would be abused by his mother, but then David's nurse started looking at him and stuff and was very concerned about what was going on and then he finally told the cops what had happened. Then later on this book he goes into foster care but runs into some trouble and gets sent to juvenile, and since that wasn't going well then his father finally took him and he finally got to do a lot of kids stuff again. Three major events that have happened in this book is that David gets abuse, then David tells on his mom and finally goes into foster care, then he gets into a lot of trouble and his dad finally took him and David lived with hi tell he was 18.
One fun part that was when David actually got out of his moms house and went into foster care but then got out of there and went to live with his dad. Why I think its special is because he wasn't being abused anymore and could eat food again and actually could live like a kid. I thought the theme or idea of this book was that life isn't always the same for people and that you should respect what you have and who you're blessed by because there is other who doesn't get to eat or hangout all the time. What I liked about this book was that it actually had a touchy feeling to it and action and also made a lot of since. From my perspective I wouldn't change any of it because it made scence had good description and gave you good feelings. Who I think should read this book is someone who likes fiction with action and drama and that could give you question and pictures in your head.
My Review.......2007-05-29
This was a great book. It really opens your eyes to the types of abuse that could and does happen in real life. This is a horrible situation but its real. When I started to read the book, the first chapter made me cry, and the emotions lead me to real the whole book in one sitting. I could not put it down. Definately a must read.
Inspirational, Saddening, Enraging, Shocking...You Can't Put the Book Down.......2007-05-15
A Child Called "It" is a book that documents in grave detail the extensive emotional and physical punishment he endured as a child and his declining role within the eyes of his family especially his mother. It's raw, vivid, and to the point. Pelzer begins by describing his family as the Brady Bunch, and you can actually feel how much he loved his mother. In spite of everything she put him through, Pelzer managed to never forget the loving mother he once had. As the story progresses, you see his mother's perfectionist, narcissistic, obsessive-compulsive behavior that was once utilized to make her family happy and offer them the best she can manifest into something indescribably poisonous and cruel. She stopped seeing her son as a person and described him as "It." Punishments included drinking ammonia, malnourishment to eating his baby brother's feces, getting stabbed, etc. In simplistic terms, it's easy to sum up that the mother was sick, truly emotionally disturbed. That analysis isn't wrong but oversimplified. Despite how simplified the book is written, there are psychological dimensions that are evident. The worst thing is that his mother wasn't always this cruel. She became so desperate to "discipline him" that she lost perspective. It was either in this book or the second book, The Lost Boy, where his mother shows sign of guilt and regret through a heartfelt apology, but you would never guess that she feels any remorse for her behavior. When social services investigated, his mother played the loving role with her infant son, explaining Dave's "jealousy". She claimed that he was acting out. The audacity to put up such a front, but you can't blame the people who believed her. She was selective in her mistreatment. She was even open about punishing him that her other son's friends came to watch! As someone who possesses similar personality characteristics as his mother, it makes me question how susceptible we all are. I know that isn't the focus of the story, but she's really the dictator in all of this. She's the Queen B. As painful as it is to imagine any living being go through that, you can't help but admire his strength, resilience, and the kindness he managed to sustain. Even when his hatred for his mother was what gave him strength, you actually find yourself being skeptical about Pelzer hating his mother, even after everything she put him through. I imagine seeing a child with sparkling eyes when he talks about his mother. What a remarkable person. It's so unusual from what the rest of the world experiences, but you become emotionally wrapped in it. It makes you appreciate everything you have, even though the majority of us are fortunate enough to have never experienced anything this cruel. I believe that everyone should read this book. Everyone!
A CHILD CALLED IT *&*&*&**&**&*&**(&****).......2007-05-07
This is a very good book because it goes into great detail of what happened. It tells about his surving through the tourchers of being beaten a torched. He almost got killed a couple of times because his mom hated him.His father never helped him and it was sad so read this book because this could happen to any person.

The Definitive Nursing/Baby Guide!.......2007-06-27
This is THE book to have when your baby's crying and you don't know what to do! Many a night I cracked this open to determine the cause of my son's crying and found good solid answers about babies, nursing and the whole process. It provided a good education for me and contributed to my being a good mom, successful at nursing and a healthy woman. I give this book to all new nursing moms and have been told that it was one of the most beneficial gifts they've gotten.
A Must Have for anyone who intends to nurse - even for a few weeks.......2007-06-05
I can honestly say I would not have made it through the first six weeks of nursing my twins or nursing my son without this book. It is a welcome friend during that time when a brand new mommy is most insecure about everything, especially nursing. For example, when it's 3 am and you have questions trying to determine if you and/or your baby have thrush, it's worth it's weight in gold. I now try to purchase it for all of my friends who are expecting.
A Must for Any Nursing Mother.......2007-06-01
I bought this bought after reading reviews here on Amazon. I have found this book to be my nursing bible and refer to it very often, even now that I've been nursing for 5 months. There is no lactation consultant in my area and my friends either don't have children or aren't breastfeeding, so this book as been my main resource for breastfeeding information. I have been able to avoid problems with latch on, plugged ducts and baby indegestion (to name a few) due to the information in this book. After a brief section on the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby, it focuses heavily on feeding techniques, potential problems, and feeding stages. There is a great appendix that discusses medications (what's safe, what's not).
I have purchased two more books for friends and plan to give this as a shower gift from here on out. This is money well spent!
COULDN'T HAVE NURSED WITHOUT IT.......2007-05-25
I absolutely loved this book. I have recommended it to all my pregnant friends thinking of nursing. I have refered back to this book for numerous things throughout the time I have been nursing my, now, 11th month old daughter. It has a section on safe medications during nursing which has turned out to be very helpful also.
Confidence for Nursing Moms.......2007-05-14
My daughter-in-law recommends this as the best support book she has seen. She has successfully nuresed three children & is now nursing her fourth. It gives you confidence to decide what works for you and your baby while giving practicle advice from a mom who has successfully breastfed her babies. A real support for new moms & a good refresher for experienced moms.

Disappointed.......2007-06-29
I have her Rice-Cooker cookbook and really like it but this one was a disappointment.
I tried the potato soup recipe. How could a potato soup be bad? It was.
Gloppy thick, no flavor. After going through the book and scrutinizing the recipes a bit more, others didn't seem like they'd be much better so I had to send this book back.
So - So........2007-06-13
I thought this book would be the answer to my dinner prayers. It looked so modern and fresh and convenient. Unfortunatly the easiest recipes were the least edible. Don't bother with the salsa chicken or the "quick teriyaki". I made them both to a T and they came out close to yucky. I've had some success, I guess, but I could tell you more recipes that failed the family test than passed. I don't think most of these recipes were actually tested. It might give you some good ideas, but I don't think this book deserves any real praise. I think I gave it three stars because I might have messed up the recipes so I wanted to give it the benefit of doubt. But honestly, I am a seasoned cook who knows how to cook with and without recipes. This book is not very helpful.
Very good.......2007-06-08
These recipes were so good that I got another of her cookbooks to try some more.
Great recipes.......2007-06-07
I got this book in tandem with my new slow cooker, and I have to say it's been great. The recipes are creative and everything I've tried to make has turned out perfectly. Try the Italian sausage and bell peppers recipe. Delish!
better recipes online.......2007-05-15
There are lots of recipes in here for oatmeals and breakfast dishes. I found several that I liked and cooked and were good. Honestly I have found more appealing recipes online. I needed recipes for dinners that were family friendly and this book didn't cut it for us.

For most writers, the greatest challenge of spiritual writing is to keep it grounded in concrete language. The temptation is to wander off into the clouds of ethereal epiphanies, only to lose readers with woo-woo thinking and sacred-laced clichés. Thankfully, Anne Lamott (Operating Instructions, Crooked Little Heart) knows better. In this collection of essays, Lamott offers her trademark wit and irreverence in describing her reluctant journey into faith. Every epiphany is framed in plainspoken (and, yes, occasionally crassly spoken) real-life, honest-to-God experiences. For example, after having an abortion, Lamott felt the presence of Christ sitting in her bedroom:
This experience spooked me badly, but I thought it was just an apparition born of fear and self-loathing and booze and loss of blood. But then everywhere I went I had the feeling that a little cat was following me, wanting me to reach down and pick it up, wanting me to open the door and let it in. But I knew what would happen: you let a cat in one time, give it a little milk and then it stays forever.
Whether she's writing about airplane turbulence, bulimia, her "feta cheese thighs," or consulting God over how to parent her son, Lamott keeps her spirituality firmly planted in solid scenes and believable metaphors. As a result, this is a richly satisfying armchair-travel experience, highlighting the tender mercies of Lamott's life that nudged her into Christian faith. --Gail Hudson
Amazon.com Audiobook Review
Anne Lamott admits that she's "ever so slightly more anxious than the average hypochondriac." When faced with a small, irregular mole and a family history of skin cancer, however, she remembers her faith in God and enjoys some peace--despite behaving "a little more like Nathan Lane in The Birdcage than I would have hoped." Author Lamott reads these wonderfully detailed postcards from her meandering journey to faith. With sharp and bittersweet humor, she recounts a past full of bad relationships with men, with food, with drugs, with alcohol, and worst of all, with herself. She battles her demons thanks to the love of her friends and family and her "lurch of faith" to embrace religion, that "puzzling thing inside me that had begun to tug on my sleeve from time to time, trying to get my attention." Inspiring but not dogmatic, Traveling Mercies is a treasure. (Running time: 4 hours, 3 cassettes) --C.B. Delaney
Book Description
Anne Lamott claims the two best prayers she knows are: "Help me, help me, help me" and "Thank you, thank you, thank you." She has a friend whose morning prayer each day is "Whatever," and whose evening prayer is "Oh, well." Anne thinks of Jesus as "Casper the friendly savior" and describes God as "one crafty mother."
Despite--or because of--her irreverence, faith is a natural subject for Anne Lamott. Since
Operating Instructions and
Bird by Bird, her fans have been waiting for her to write the book that explained how she came to the big-hearted, grateful, generous faith that she so often alluded to in her two earlier nonfiction books. The people in Anne Lamott's real life are like beloved characters in a favorite series for her readers--her friend Pammy, her son, Sam, and the many funny and wise folks who attend her church are all familiar. And
Traveling Mercies is a welcome return to those lives, as well as an introduction to new companions Lamott treats with the same candor, insight, and tenderness.
Lamott's faith isn't about easy answers, which is part of what endears her to believers as well as nonbelievers. Against all odds, she came to believe in God and then, even more miraculously, in herself. As she puts it, "My coming to faith did not start with a leap but rather a series of staggers." At once tough, personal, affectionate, wise, and very funny,
Traveling Mercies tells in exuberant detail how Anne Lamott learned to shine the light of faith on the darkest part of ordinary life, exposing surprising pockets of meaning and hope.
Download Description
Traveling Mercies takes us on a journey through Anne Lamott's troubled past to illuminate her devout but quirky walk of faith: how, against all odds, she came to believe in God, and the myriad ways in which that faith sustains and guides her in everyday life. With an exuberant mix of passion and self-deprecating humor, Lamott explores whether certain behaviors will get her "a better seat in heaven, " perhaps "near the dessert table, " or whether her mistakes "make Jesus want to drink gin straight out of the cat disk" She writes about her family, about helping a friend through the devastating illness of her baby, about wanting but not having all the answers for her eight-year-old son.
Through the hard-won wisdom that forms the core of her beliefs, and with wit, insight, and lots of heart, she shows us how she creates a life balance of connectedness and liberation.
Customer Reviews:
Raw and Dangerous Reading.......2007-06-09
Hmmm. I dunno. Lamott is as brilliantly down-to-earth in her prose as we're likely to find. When her heart races, the reader gasps for breath. And funny? OMG! Only Miami Herald hoot Dave Barry is more deadpan. But I came away feeling like I'd rather party with Anne than pray with her -- and that shakes my sobriety, serenity, and spirituality all at once! I'll be watching to see how God shapes her soul, over time.
Grabbing Words for Spiritual People.......2007-06-01
The powerful prose pushes the thoughts into the head. The stories are gripping, but every now and then, you must look around and make sure know one is seeing you read all those swear words. Check out the blog at [..]
LOVE Anne Lamott!.......2007-05-14
Love this book! Anne is such a beautiful writer--she speaks honestly without leaving out any details.... She speaks honestly about her journey with God, no holds barred.
Honest and Insightful Little Book.......2007-05-03
I have to hand it to Anne Lamott for being honest with herself and her past. She is a Christian and her growth is shown in this book as she discusses family, friends and raising her son Sam. The first quarter of the book may be disturbing for some with its graphic description of the author's drug and alcohol problems, but by the end of the book, the reader has developed a certain respect for Lamott and her insights into life born from her past. She is a woman comfortable with herself, her faults and her relationship with God, although she is well aware that she is far from the person that God believes she can become. The best reason to read this book, however, is not necessarily for the stories, but for her writing style. Lamott is a gifted writer. She believes in her faith and in her writing, both of which shine through in this short book.
Beautiful.......2007-04-23
A beautifully written book about how very un-beautiful it can be to be a single parent, a Christian, and recovering alcoholic. I've been two out of the three (not a parent), and could relate to her becoming an authentic person of integrity. Her brutally honest admissions about having a "social 6-pack" or two was hysterical.
Apparently, there are perfect people in the world. Perfect Christians who do not have any use for the imperfect or understanding of the trials that face the Rest of Us. Luckily, this book won't be wasted on them, and the Rest of Us can have a good laugh at ourselves, along with Lamott.

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'll love you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels. (Ages 4 to 8) --Richard Farr

A wonderful book about families and the life cycle for children (and adults). It always makes me cry. So sweet and poignant.
***Great gift for all... IGNORE NEG REVIEWS...*****.......2007-06-11
Wonderful story that makes it's point clear. The love between a mother and child is special and everlasting. Some of the reviews are odd and point out a darker meaning behind this lovely story. Read this book many years and never made the connections these people make. I guess Snow White had questionable a relationship with the seven dwarfs?? How about Pinocchio?? What did that old man really want with a little boy? Hate to go there, however, some people can turn a sweet story into a seedy one!
This book is definitely creepy.......2007-06-07
I, or rather my husband, recieved this book from his mother to read to our new baby daughter. She told him that this was her favorite book to read to him growing up. I read this book and found it to be very disturbing. The mother creeping into the house and crawling through the window and across the floor to rock her grown son in his sleep. He obviously has a wife because he then has a daughter. How would his wife feel about this?? This is not a good story to read to your child. I would find it very unnerving if my mom wanted to read this to me. It is great to love your child unconditionally but not to stalk them!!

Book Description
Imagine a young boy who has never had a loving home. His only possesions are the old, torn clothes he carries in a paper bag. The only world he knows is one of isolation and fear. Although others had rescued this boy from his abusive alcoholic mother, his real hurt is just begining -- he has no place to call home. This is Dave Pelzer's long-awaited sequel to A Child Called "It". In The Lost Boy, he answers questions and reveals new adventures through the compelling story of his life as an adolescent. Now considered an F-Child (Foster Child), Dave is moved in and out of five different homes. He suffers shame and experiences resentment from those who feel that all foster kids are trouble and unworthy of being loved just because they are not part of a "real" family. Tears, laughter, devastation and hope create the journey of this little lost boy who searches desperately for just one thing -- the love of a family.
Customer Reviews:
The brave boy.......2007-05-25
I recommend this book because it is very interesting, and you do not want to put it down.In the book, I learned that I have a good life and that I should be thankful for everything I have after seeing what Dave has gone through in his life. I would read another book by this author because all of the books are sequels and at the end of each book you are left hanging and wondering what will happen next. These are some things about the The Lost Boy.
Dave's story helped me during really tough times........2007-04-18
As a foster parent who accepted only one child at a time, I needed all the inspiration I could get. Dave's story not only inspired but also encouraged me. It is full of truths that make us aware of how blessed we are. Anyone who is interested in helping abused kids should read this book. With Great Mercy author.
The story continues.......2007-04-14
Dave Pelzer gives a wonderfull account of his experiences of foster care in this sequel to A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive. In this book you begin to see the transition to a "normal" state of being, but it is not without it's problems.
My Hat Goes Off To Dave Pelzer.......2007-04-06
All of Dave Pelzer's books are absolutely by far the best books I have ever read. I couldn't put them down!!!
Best book!!!.......2007-04-06
Do you want to know how it feels like to have your parents not love you? Well thats how a little boy named David (the main charactor) feels in this story. David Pelzer is a young teenager who only wants the love of his parents, but his mother, doesn't love him... She keeps David in the basement, and she rarly ever feeds him!!!! Once David id put into foster care, he has to go to court, and the judge gets to chose whether to keep him in foster care, or to release him back to his parents. The judge chooses....... Well to find out you have to read this amazing book.
Dave Pelzer has written more books besides this one.. The Lost Boy is part of a three-part series... That includes A Child Called "it," The Lost Boy, and A Man Named David. I really think that Dave Pelzer is a great and wonderful Author.
This book will really make you cry and become very mad at the same time.. If parents read this book they will see what some parents really do to there kids. I would extemely recomend this book to others, becuase it is an adventure of one boys determination to find love. I think this book wouldn't be a good book for kids under 13, becuase it has some pretty foul language in it and they might not understand what is happening. When you start reading this book, you won't want to put it down until your done reading it..
