A Fantastic 2nd Part to "Fit For Life"!!!.......2006-02-28
I loved "Fit For Life, and now reading the "New Way Of Eating From The Fit For Life Kitchen"...Lots more information on perfectly combining and eating...I couldn't put it down...I learned so much more and this is a new way of life for me and I highly recommend this for anyone who is totally serious about learning a new way of life, it is not a diet, it's a way of life that makes you feel so much better and it's so much healthier...
Simple, healthy recipes that taste good.......2002-01-21
I like this cooking book and use it wuite often. It has several sections, and I especially like the one on salads and salad dressings and the one of fruit smoothies. The book can actually be used by people who have not read the Fit for Life books, too, as it contains a summary of the main info on food combining and fruit consumption; while Fit for Life fans will like it as it will bring nice new recipes in their kitchen, while still assuring them they are eating as healthy as possible.
The book contains several sections: fruit smoothies, juices and salads; vegetable salads and many dressings for them: sandwitches (yes, you can have a properly combined sandwicth, and once you had one, you won't want to go back to the old way!); soups; vegetable dishes; feast and buffest dishes.
The recipes are simple to realize even for people who don't have much experience in cooking, and they are realized with readily available items. This book will allow you to cook for your family and know they are eating properly without much effort on your side, and they'll like what you cook!
Particularly recommended for vegetarians! But anyone will like this book.
I lost 30 pounds effortlessly and I'm healthier than ever........2000-08-23
This book helped me to drop 30 pounds in less than 6 weeks. I feel alive again. I've never felt this good. Not only did I take the weight off, but I also lost my asthma and chronic fatigue. Thank you Marilyn Diamond.
food combining saved my life.......2000-06-10
I started food combining to lose weight. Thanks to this book, I have not only lost the excess weight, but my energy level and my blood pressure and cholestrol levels have dropped dramatically, too. But , best of all, I AM NEVER HUNGRY.
This book is GREAT! I hope they put it back in print!.......1999-03-28
I have felt so much better since I have been practicing this way of eating. I have been on it for two weeks now and it is wonderful.

Book Description
Find out how hundreds of thousands of people all across the country have melted the pounds away without dieting, without deprivation -- the Somersize way!
With her number one New York Times bestsellers
Eat Great, Lose Weight and
Get Skinny on Fabulous Food, Suzanne Somers spread the word about her revolutionary weight-loss program that's unlike any diet out there. When you Somersize, you can eat your favorite foods until you are full and change your metabolism without skipping meals. Unlike other weight-loss programs, you don't have to eliminate entire food groups or skimp on portions -- instead, you can trim your waistline and boost your energy levels without depriving yourself of healthy, great-tasting foods.
In her new book,
Suzanne Somers’ Eat, Cheat, and Melt the Fat Away, Suzanne shows loyal fans and newcomers alike that losing weight and getting fit are easier now than ever before. You'll be amazed at how the pounds just melt away when you eat hearty, rich foods like cheese, butter, meats, creamy sauces, and tempting desserts. The key is eating food in the right combinations to achieve maximum weight loss, while also lowering your cholesterol and blood pressure.
Eat, Cheat, and Melt the Fat Away explains Somersizing in detail for those who have come to the plan for the first time. It also offers the latest Somersizing news, including:
* how hormone imbalances affect weight gain and how to maintain your weight throughout every phase in your life, from puberty through your childbearing years to menopause;
* how to Somersize with your children;
* how to incorporate little "cheats" into the plan so you never feel deprived, but still lose weight;
* information about the remarkable new natural sugar that allows you to eat sweets and still stay slim;
* answers to the most frequently asked questions and concerns about Somersizing;
* Somersize success stories that will inspire you to lose weight and get healthy.
And best of all,
Eat, Cheat, and Melt the Fat Away also includes more than 100 new Somersize recipes that will tantalize your taste buds, including Pan-Fried Petrale Sole with Lemon, Butter, and Caper Sauce; Deep-Fried Turkey with Fried Onions and Herbs; Roasted Sweet Red Pepper Soup with Creme Fraiche and Crispy Sage Leaves; Portobello Mushrooms with Bubbling Pesto; Molten Chocolate Cakes; Raspberry Souffle; and many more.
Portobello Mushrooms with Bubbling Pesto
PRO/FATS AND VEGGIES -- LEVEL ONE
Serves 4
These mushrooms make a great appetizer or a delicious accompaniment for a summer meal alongside a steak. They work especially well if you are using your outdoor grill, but you can also broil them in the oven.
4 large portobello mushrooms
Olive oil for brushing
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 recipe Basil Pesto (p. 155)
4 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Trim the stems off the mushrooms. Brush mushrooms with olive oil and season lightly. Cook gill side down over medium coals or in the broiler for 5 minutes.
Turn the mushrooms over and spread a spoonful of pesto over the entire surface. Continue to cook for 10 minutes or until the mushrooms are very tender and the pesto is bubbling. Sprinkle the Parmesan on top of the pesto and return to broiler until cheese is melted and golden.
Dawn's Deviled Eggs
PRO/FATS AND VEGGIES -- LEVEL ONE
Makes 10
My good friend Barry Manilow has a wonderful cook named Dawn. These are her delicious deviled eggs. Her original recipe includes avocado, which makes the filling green. Try it that way for Level Two.
5 hard-boiled eggs, halved lengthwise
1 tablespoon minced scallion, white and light green parts
1 large jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
Juice from 1 lime
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, or to taste
red chili flakes for garnish
Remove the yolks from the whites. Set the whites aside. Mash the yolks in a bowl with a fork. Add the scallion, jalapeño, lime juice, mayonnaise, and salt. Add more mayonnaise to reach desired consistency. Mash with a fork until blended. Using a teaspoon, carefully stuff whites with yolk mixture, mounding the tops.
For extra heat, garnish with red chili flakes.
For Level Two
Add 1 whole mashed avocado to the egg yolk mixture.

Enlightened.......2007-02-03
Suzanne presents her ideas very clearly and her writing style is very easy to understand. There are some great recipes in this book and I will use it again and again!
challange.......2006-08-11
This diet is a challange, you have to remember what you can and can not eat together. However, once you figure it out, it is a good diet. You never feel deprived, and are never hungry. The food is good and it is great to not have to count calories.
I have lost 10lbs in less than two weeks. One more thing, you do not have to give up desserts.
...A bit fiddly in my opinion..........2006-07-27
Well, my wife and I tried this diet plan, and lost a little, BUT...
CON: some of the ingredients and just a marketing ploy.
CON: It makes no mention of what to do if you're lactose intolerant.
CON: How do you thicken a sauce without cornstarch? Arrowroot? Pretty hard to locate in most grocery stores. File Gumbo? Makes a green gloppy mess out of your meal.
CON: Somewhat poorly written, more poorly compiled into a book, and the person or persons in charge of the index need to be educated (back to school with you now!) in compiling a COMPREHENSIVE index. Facts and figures are just too hard to find in this book.
PRO: SHe's probably rich from sales of this re-hash of Atkins, Sugar-busters, and Carb Addicts.
PRO: She's easier on the eyes than Atkins was!
GREAT ONE TO ADD TO COLLECTION.......2005-08-17
I love this one, I have ordered almost all her books and this is a great read dont miss it. For all you doubters. I am convinced Suzanne and her people know what they are talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful philosophy and recipes.......2004-10-29
Molten Chocolate Cakes. The best coated chicken dish I've ever eaten--we have it at least once a week in my house.
Somers, a Palm Springs part-timer, has terrific insights on raising kids to like food other than bologna sandwiches and fruit roll-ups. We are all eating too much sugar and it's poisoning our society. We have convinced ourselves that diet food can't taste good. Wrong! Why are the French and Japanese so healthy? They are light-years ahead of us in eating habits. So is Somers.

Eating the right balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fat creates a hormonal response that leads to burning stored fat for energy, claim nutritionists Joyce and Gene Daoust. This book explains how the 40-30-30 diet works (40 percent high fiber, mostly low-glycemic carbohydrate; 30 percent high-quality protein; 30 percent fat), and how to plan meals following this formula. The "Sample Starter Meal Planners" are organized into three meal categories: Regular, Fat-Flush, and Vegetarian (heavy on cheese, eggs, tofu, and tempeh). There are a few recipes, such as Hearty Chili, Teriyaki Chicken Kabobs, Pizza, and Tortilla Turkey Roll-Up, and many quickly assembled meals, such as Scrambled Eggs, Tuna on Rye Crackers, and Open-Faced Ham Sandwich. A food value guide gives the protein, carbohydrate, and fat grams of many common foods. Though some nutrition experts would argue that this diet is too low in carbohydrates and too high in protein, the Daousts say that "There are no good or bad foods....The key is achieving the proper balance of the foods that you eat."

You Can't Pass This Up !!!.......2005-01-07
I have finally found a weight loss book that is simple to understand and easy to follow. What I found to be extremely helpful was the Meal Planner Conversion Chart. It's all figured out for you. You choose the plan that suits you best. Since I have been on this diet, all the cravings for junk food have gone. I was someone who lived for sugar and now I do not want any of it. I use to crave coffee in the morning as well but realized I didn't want that wired up feeling & acid stomach. I switched over to a caffeine-free coffee substitute made from soyabeans I found on the net at www. S o y c o f f e e.c om. It so easy for someone to tell you to eat less, but if you are craving bad foods, eventually you will fail. In the first five days I was on this diet all the craving ceased and I was already 8 lbs down. If you were like me and cannot wait for your next slice of cake and at the same time really want to change your lifestyle, Try this. I lost 9 pounds in three weeks. Went from a size 18 jeans to a size 16. This is the only way to go!!!
Zone made easy for regular people!.......2005-01-03
My doctor started me on this book in June 2004. I am 5'6" and was hitting the scales at my highest ever - 200 lbs. I was having trouble fitting in my size 14/16s and couldn't stand the thought of buying new, bigger clothes. I have always been a woman that "knew" what was good and bad in my refrigerator (I've read just about every article about dieting written), and had trouble fitting in exercise - especially after having two kids. The Zone was outrageously complicated, and so many other diets had huge restrictions on fruit and most veggies, and just didn't seem to make sense from a nutritional standpoint - I couldn't stick with them for long. My cravings, weird rules and the heavy restrictions on almost everything I loved was always a bomb ticking away inside. Then I found 40-30-30.
It is now six months later, I've lost 40 pounds and counting. I have a new way to eat for life! I lost 14 pounds the first month, then seven, then six and the rest has been consistently coming off ever since and - get this - I haven't managed to fit exercise in yet (still trying). I was very religious the first three months, then fell in to more of a settled routine where I am comfortable with the general parameters without refering to the book or my notes very often. And the beauty is, since you are changing the way you build your meals, I can "cheat" - I really consider it more like living your life, not cheating. I had chocolate cake at my son's & daughter's birthday parties one month in to the diet, had a glass of wine WITH my dinner during the second month but it was no big deal! My new way of eating wasn't disrupted, weight loss continued, and I very rarely have any cravings - I find that most of them are psychological anyway (a habitual reaction to stressful situations, etc.). Odd thing is that most of the things that I used to REALLY love (all carbs), don't return the same old satisfaction anymore - just not the same response from my body - that's definitely not something I expected.
I even managed to stay "even" during the difficult holiday weeks (Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year's). I thought for sure that my excesses would tip the scale since I seemed to indulge in so much! But here I am, right on track! Looking back, I seem to make enough slightly different choices at all of these events to still maintain some balance (like eating shrimp cocktail along with some chip & dip instead of a plate of straight carbs).
Some of the key things for me were:
1) The ability to substitute my ZonePerfect bars (Fudge Graham are best) for up to two meals a day - really a lifesaver when you're on the go at work and with the family and it's critical that you not skip your meals.
2) There are really quick & easy meals that fit in to a life that was used to all of the convenience foods.
3) Please, those of you reading those "the cost of good food is so high!" reviews... have you added up the cost of all of your sodas, chips, ice cream, etc., lately? Even with the cost of fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats, I'm still spending less.
4) New, clear approaches to fast food and restaurant eating is outlined - I even check the websites of different companies to makes sure my picks keep my carbs, protein & fat in balance - it would surprise you what some of the "healthy" items add up to!
5) I have almost completely eliminated hydrogenated oil and aspartame from my diet - not easy considering they're in darn near everything these days! (I'm not sure if that came from my doctor or the book.)
6) First meal within one hour of getting up, last one four hours before bed.
Good luck! It's a great book, clearly and simply written, and it's been a lifesaver for me!
This book worked for me twice!.......2004-04-09
I bought this book in December 1998, at the recommendation of the womens gym where I had been exercising. I followed the "Fat Flush" sample meal planner and lost 16 pounds. Now it's April 2004, I am 5 months post pardum, and have lost 10 pounds in 5 weeks, using the same meal plan. I've lost the carbohydrate cravings and truely feel great! The sample meal planners are satisfying examples. Chapter 8 "Putting it all together" provides all the tools you need to creat your own 40-30-30 meals in the portions right for your weight and activity level. Chapter 4 "The Glycemic Index" is an excellent resource for good-better-best carbohydrate choices.
A good introduction to a workable system.......2002-10-14
This was the first book I read on the subject of weightloss by combining macro-nutrients in the right percentage. I chose this over "The Zone" as it seemed more user-friendly, and I was right. The system can be complicated at first, until you get used to it, and the Zone's "blocks" are an additional complication.
The authors do a great job at explaining why it is so important to balance the right amounts of carbohydrate, protein and fat, and how to choose wisely. It could very well be the first health/fitness book a person reeds and the reader would not feel overwhelmed, as the information is given in a way that it can be easily understood without any previous experience or background in the field of nutrition. The data is complete but you don't feel you need to be a biochemist to understand it, like in some other health books.
The book also offers one week of menus, in different variations: the regular ones, the vegetarian and the "fat flush", for those who want a more rapid weight loss. The meal plans are furtherly taylored to your individual needs by establishing which type of 4 (A-D) you fall in, depending on your weight and activity level, and therefore being able to establish the right quantity of each food contained in the daily menus.
There is also advice on what to choose when dining out and nutritional info on common commercial products, as well as a food value guide (how much protein is in 4oz of chicken breast?) to help the reader make the right choices and design his menus following the 40-30-30 regimen.
Overall, a very good guide, which doesn't get 5 stars just because at an attentive eye (from someone who has a background in nutrition/health/fitness), the plan would be even better if it was lighter on the sodium and dairy, but still, it's a great improvement over the current nutrition of most people.
I would suggest it to anyone who wants to lose weight but also to anyone who wishes to improve his/her fitness performance and energy levels.
hype the book make money.......2002-03-29
Although the book has some good tips I had trouble getting started and once I did well lets put it this way i did not stick with it for long. The only reason I am keeping the book is because it list alot of foods and how much protein, carb, fat information is in them. They hype the book up and I fell in hook line and sinker. I guess that old saying applies right about know " If it sounds to good to be true Etc...." 40 carb 30 protien 30 fat dont cut it. But I did figure out how to loose weight and keep it off; Its simple I got off my lazy butt started to excersise ate better and walla 10lbs lighter and working for more AND HERES THE CATCH ITS FREE walking 30min and common sense tells you wich foods in your fridge are good and bad for you.

Terrific.......2007-05-28
All of Suzanne Somers' books are excellent. This has the easiest recipes. I love to eat without counting calories or portion sizes. I eat till I am full. I have lost 15 lbs in two weeks while eating delicious real food.
I recommend you purchase ALL of Suzanne's books. Each one has different recipes and the forwards are different also. The Forward to GET SKINNY is the best. GET SKINNY IS A MUST. All of Suzanne's books are a MUST. For the first time in my life I have hope that I will be SKINNY and HEALTHY one day.
Great!.......2005-09-29
The book was in great condition, better than expected, it looked brand new. Fast shipping as well. Thanks
I was surprised that this is such a good book.......2004-06-28
When I see Suzanne Somers I just see Chrissy from Three's Company and all that snorting and dumb blonde-ing! I never paid any attention to any of the Suzanne Somers books because I figured this was just another celebrity attaching their persona to something. My library happened to have this on the shelf and since I had some time to kill while waiting for my daughter to pick out her books I decided to flip through the recipe section since I knew it was a low carb type of diet and I do atkins. I was very interested at what I saw so I checked it out. I have been totally shocked at how easy and terrific her ideas are and in fact her philosophy is quite interesting too. I am really impressed. I have a totally different viewpoint now of Suzanne Somers. I love this recipe book so much I had to buy it so I"d have a copy.
Great book, great recipes!!.......2004-06-07
My husband & I just started the South Beach diet. Since Somersizing is a very similar concept (similar to Atkins too), I thought I'd check out these recipes. The book explains the concept of cutting out sugar & sugar forming carbohydrates (anything containing white flour). I looked into the other somersizing books & this one really has the best recipes. So far I've only tried a few & they were very delicious. The cream cheese pancakes & balsamic dijon chicken are yummy. I also bought Somersweet, some of the recipes call for it, but you can use Splenda or other sweeteners instead. All of the recipes in this book are appealing as well as healthy. And they are fast & easy to make.
Not inspiring.......2004-01-31
Although I am a big fan of Suzanne's 3 previous cookbooks (not her dessert book) I've been disappointed with this one. Everytime I look through it for possible recipes, nothing gets my attention. If you haven't tried her other cookbooks, get them instead of this one.

Not So Easy Food Combining.......2005-08-21
This book was written and published in the UK, with some terms, language, and measurements being unfamiliar to those of us in the States. The diet is complicated enough without those little problems. I felt some things were contradictory, and there is still, even after a month, a rather distracting and disagreeable odor to the book. The recipe photos are lovely...amazing really, considering the contents of some of the recipes!
a beautiful, fantastic book!.......2005-04-23
This book is exceptionally well written. The author/s are as clear as a bell, and very fact oriented. They update hay and sheltons outdated theories with current understanding of human anatomy and physiology. On top of that, it is gorgeous to look at, a big book loaded with professional (often contemporary-especially the recipe pics) color photographs. It is selling for $15, it probably cost more to print it! I recommend it very highly!
The only discrepancy is that the one that shipped to me has a different cover than the one pictured, expect to get an artistic close up of a lemon or something. It is not a big thing I actually prefer the one I received to the one amazon has a picture of.
a real bible for a healthier life.......2005-02-11
This book is perfect if you are looking for a book that promotes healthy food. No protein powders, diet pills, supplements, but just clean fresh food. The author explaines really well how the digestive system is working, all beautifully illustrated.
Montignac's system in fact was based on the food combining principles.
The book includes a vast amount of recipes and lots of practical quideliness for a healthy lifestyle.
This book is not about a diet, a quick fix to loose weight, but a complete change of lifestyle. Gradually i became convinced this is the way to go. I feel much more energetic since i started following the principles explained in the book. The fact that this book is not followed by a lawine of special marketed products you should buy, tells you that this is a genuine attempt to advocate a healthier lifestyle.
It's careless!!.......2003-05-11
Lots of colour pictures, nice layout etc make this book easy on the eye. But they've made such a 'negligent error' that you should think twice before buying. The whole idea about food combinations is represented by a diagram on pg 45 which uses arrows to show the foods you can and cannot combine. The problem is THEY'VE MISSED OUT HALF OF THE ARROWS!! It's just silly. OK you can piece together the rest of the diagram if you read the book but, hey come on, we're paying money for this.
food combining bible.......2002-05-06
This is a wonderful book and I love the recipes. This book along with exercise has lowed my blood pressure. I wish I had read it along time ago. It has opened up a new world for me. Thank you Jan and Inge Dries.

"It isn't what you eat or how much you eat that makes you fat, it is when you eat and what you eat together," announces this follow-up to the smash original Beverly Hills diet plan. In a switch from the original, this updated version gives day-to-day advice and support and a full 35-day menu plan that includes a more balanced diet that includes animal protein (the first 10 days of the original diet included nothing but fruit). There's no portion control or forbidden foods, ergo the book's mantra: "Cheesecake and cheekbones, hamburgers and hipbones." Enthusiastic and encouraging author Judy Mazel dropped from 180 to 108 pounds by following this diet, optimizing the enzymatic action of foods by eating fruits by themselves, by not mixing carbohydrates with proteins or eating carbohydrates after proteins, and by following protein with protein. The many additional rules of this diet may be hard to keep track of, but the guideline that's easy to remember is that champagne goes with everything (however, wine goes with fruit, and other alcoholic beverages should be combined with other carbohydrates). Warning: some of the prescribed fruits--there are mangoes, papayas, pineapples, and apricots galore--will be hard to find out of season for anyone who doesn't live in southern California.
Book Description
Imagine a program where you can indulge in your favorite foods--from steak to pasta, and even champagne--and still lose weight easily. Then imagine being able to maintain your new slim shape forever. With this new program, author Judy Mazel has made your dreams a reality. She shows you how to take charge of the foods you eat to achieve a lifestyle eating plan that will keep you off the "fat track" for good. The secret to your new slimhood rests with Conscious Combining. Refined and expanded from its introduction in Mazel's original book, this technique teaches you how and when to mix different food groups for optimum weight control. You'll also learn the four golden rules of weight management, plus the significance of enzyme interaction in weight loss. The program now includes a 35-day "Born Again Skinny" diet with recipes for your new food lifestyle. This is a diet many Hollywood stars have embraced. Judy's private client list has included luminaries such as Jack Nicholson, Jodie Foster, Maria Shriver and Engelbert Humperdinck. They, and countless others, found this to be the lifestyle eating plan that changed their shape forever.
Customer Reviews:
This diet is GROSS. STAY AWAY........2006-08-17
This diet makes you feel weak, it makes you feel light headed, and it makes you hate fruit with a PASSION. Why don't you try eating only watermelon or grapes for a day and tell me how YOU feel...along with all of the other days being mostly acidic fruits that cause ulcers and the corners of your mouth to be raw from the juice. It makes you have diarrhea and stomach pains, and I'm sorry but NO AMOUNT of weight makes that ok. It's the diet of a compulsive eater and a bulimic, and I can't believe I bought into this diet. Ask any health expert, and they will tell you to stay away. You might as well fast like an anerexic , binge like a compulsive eater, and purge yourself of the food through taking exlax...it will have the same effect.. I am SO GROSSED OUT BY THIS DIET!PLEASE don't do this to yourself..I know you may see this and think...she just screwed up the diet and is mad at herself for it and is taking it out on the diet...I am not doing that, and I just don't want anyone to do this to themselves..I was reading a blog from someone who said that she got a severe condition because of this diet that has stayed with her for over a year now...Don't do this to yourself..I don't care how good fruit is for you...its not good in HUGE amounts and you can't live off of it...find another diet and be healthy.
After first day, I'm down 2 1/2 pounds!.......2006-08-06
Yes you heard right. 2 1/2 pounds after only one day on this fantastic diet. Now I know it may be water weight, but hey it's less weight on the scale and that's half the battle when you are starting off a diet because the quick water weight loss keeps you motivated. There is a TON of fruit on this diet and this morning I have to eat a good deal of prunes...but I also can look forward to days on the diet coming up when I can eat whatever I want in moderation and know that I wont gain weight because it will be followed by fruit days that will keep me from gaining a pound. This is a healthy diet. Fruit, carbs(other then fruit),protien, and healthy fats like olive oil. I feel like I'm learning a new way of living that will be livable and once you get off the weight you need you adapt her moderate approach that is only fruit in the moring and then the correct combining for the rest of the day. Its great.
Give it a shot.......2006-02-28
I lost 20 pounds on this diet over 5 years ago and havent gained a pound back. I think alot of people start out negative with this diet, they are constanly trying to disprove that is works. Be positive and give this diet a chance, yes its a hard diet but it works and if you actually ready the book you can keep the weight off. After the first two weeks on this diet I felt so energetic and refreshed. I suggest buying canned sliced pineapple (in juice not syrup) its less messy and can save alot of money. Good luck dont get discouraged.
quite surprised!.......2005-10-29
Ok... so i was SO suspicious! I thought anyone who eats fruit for days on end will lose weight! But today is my 5th Day I have stuck to the plan and am eating a LOT! I have lost 4.5 pounds and am really surprised being a protien/carb every meal kinda gal. To start with you may think I am overweight so the weight is all water etc etc., but actually I just wanted to lose a few vanity pounds (about 10) and couldnt shake them even with exercise high protien, so i decided to shock my body with this diet and see what happened. Needless to say I was not that optimistic, but after only 5 days I am converted and think that it obviously does work. Go for it!
This is a really good book........2003-07-06
I think that this book really helped me to make the right choies about what i eat. Thank You Judy M.
In french it is, Je adores Judy!!!

Customer Reviews:
Good book, but MISLEADING!.......2006-12-14
I absolutely love Sproutman (the author); I have most of his books already. This book is easy to read, fun, amusing, full of helpful tips... BUT it doesn't explain food combining well enough! As my first book on the subject, I THOUGHT it was enough information, but I continued having digestive problems. Later I read Natalia Rose's Raw Food Detox Diet - it not only explained food combining much clearer, it actually conflicted with some of the advice in this book. For example, a piece of fruit for dessert an hour or so after dinner - which is exactly what I was doing, with poor results - is a TERRIBLE food choice, I now know. Now that I understand more about food combining, I wouldn't call this book a food combining book. But I'd say it's still worth having; it still has good information about improving digestion (in other ways besides food combining) and how to think differently about food. It's worthwhile to have in your collection, but find other books about food combining rather than relying on this one.
UPDATE: 4 Stars, not 3
Recently I looked up something I remembered reading in this book (it had been sitting on my shelf for a long time) - and found myself surprised. I was too hard on this book in my original review. Maybe because it was my first book on Food Combining and I didn't understand the subject, I felt the book was missing something. When I looked through it the other day, I realize there really is some good information about food combining, like a breakdown into subcategories (for example, fruits have 4 subcategories: acid, sub-acid, sweet, and melon). I still have issue with the recommendation of having fruit for desert after a meal - DON'T DO IT. I have personally found it's made a big difference in how I feel! But there is plenty of useful information in this book, and along with the tips about how your mood can affect your meal, I say this book deserves 4 STARS!
A silly book.......2006-11-04
This book is downright silly! Find something better on the matter. Trust me, there is plenty out there.
food freedom.......2006-04-03
This book is the "KEY" to learning the "whys" of body malfunction and obesity. Simply written for the nutritional novice.
No wonder we're dying like flies!.......2005-05-26
I bought this book out of desperation. Although I have learned some things over the years about digestion, I was still having problems. It set the record straight as far as how I should be eating. No wonder so many Americans are dying like flies of colon cancer, stomach cancer and like diseases. How sad! I am going to start today to incorporate the methods in this book!
Easy to follow, much knowledge to be gained.......2003-12-13
When I picked this book up, I was looking for some information on how to combine different foods together.
Good or bad, I didn't get that. What I got instead, was a book explaining the "art" of eating. What the different food types are, how to eat them, why to chew, what causes immune system problems, parasites etc. Stuff your parents should have taught you, but didn't. (or maybe they did, but you ignored their wisdom).
I think everybody over 200 pounds needs to read this book. I really enjoyed it!
My only shot at the book, is that is contains 2 paragraphs of info on Food Combining. A better title should have been "How to feed your stomuch"

the start of it all.......2001-07-09
Fit for life, and Suzanne Sommers must have read this book at some point in their career. This book seems to be the source for everything written about NH today.
good lord! He's right! Try it yourself!.......2000-07-21
This is a marvelous easy to read short guide book! Talk about a shift! Although food combining is quite widely known among nutritionists and h0olistic medicine practitioners, Western doctors know nothing about it. That's why you hear the doctors say "Take a little bit of everything in a meal" or "Drink a glass of water or fluid (milk?) after a meal". That's bull! Try that and I assure you you'll feel bloated, get stomach cramp, indigestion, fatigue all together. I respect Dr Shelton for sticking to his view on nutrition despite the attack of medical practitioners, because he knows his view is correct. Do you know studies have shown that MORE people in the West (esp America) with their 'rich' diet suffer from MALNUTRITION, compared to those in poor places in Mexico and India! Wrong combination of food in your body makes the food undigested, ferment, rot and then stick to your large intestine for months & years! That's why OBESITY and MALNUTRITION is such a problem! And Western doctors are puzzled why this is so! The regular Western meal of a hamburger with fries and milkshake breaks at least 6 rules in the food combining guideline! Breaking just 1 is enough to make you malnourished! Anyway, try food combining for a few days and see the result yourself! You'll be amazed! GOod on ya, Dr Shelton!
Bold book that shatters old beliefs.......2000-06-12
This book challenges our daily eating habits of mixing different type of food in one meal. New research has shown that mixing different kinds of food in one go can rob you of energy instead of giving you energy! Do you feel fatigue and sleepy after that big meal of rice with meat with eggs and fish during lunch? You bet! Then after that you constipate! I've made a guinea pig of myself and found it to be true! If I combine my food properly, I don't feel sleepy after lunch, even if it was a big meal!Today, more and more people are discovering the importance of food combining, and many authors are recommending it. See books like "The Tao Of Health, Sex and Longevity" by Daniel Reid. Food combining is one of the most important thing Tony Robbins did to make his vitality explode! Here's a way to see for yourself that it works. Try the strategies of this book a few days, note your energy level and how you feel. Then go back to eating egg with meat and rice or steak with potato, and you'll see the huge difference. Remember this, you eat to gain energy, not to lose it! I recommend this precious book to anyone who wants to change his health and vitality.
The missing cornerstone to healthy eating........1999-01-07
This is a must have simple book for anyone wanting to change there health, weight or attitude with diet. His clinical work shows that what foods you eat together make a huge difference between a meal's constructive or a destructive effects on your body. When I started following his guidelines I got clearer, more energy and alertness in days. When I stray (holidays etc.) the body feels heavy, slugish in and hour. A wonderful simple essential book.

Blood Type Diet and Lupus.......2004-02-25
I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus in 1988. The only solution for my problems was to take antibiotics, steroids and Quianine (sp?) for the skin rash. All of these drugs caused other problems and never made me feel better. In 1999, I began the blood type diet and today I am healthier than I have ever been. I have energy, I never take prescription drugs and I exercise everyday. I take supplements, follow the diet and do accupuncture to keep my system strong and healthy. The people who don't follow the diet continue to be ill and progressively get worse. Many have died...and that is unnecessary. If you have Lupus and are looking for answers TRY this book. What can it hurt? You have probably tried everything else with limited success.
GOOD RECIPES, GREAT CONCEPT.......2002-02-08
The strong points of this book are the concept of blood type and diet, and the nutritious recipes. Whether one is trying to lose or maintain weight, or simply choosing their foods more carefully because they are health conscious, the book is beneficial. This book, like Dr. Peter D'Adamo's "Eat Right" series is based on the concept of eating right for your blood type.
The downside of the book is that I found some parts contradictory and the book just did not come together as anticipated. The reader may be confused by some of the combination of foods. Overall, it is a book worth reading because the concept of blood type and diet is sound; however, my preference on the topic of blood type and diet is still Dr. D'Adamo's books ("Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type, Cook Right 4 Your Blood Type and Live Right 4 Your Blood Type") they are all absolutely superb and highly recommended.
Khader proves it again!.......2000-07-26
Dina Khader's first published book is a long-awaited gem. Her earlier work crafting the recipes for Peter D'Adamo's now-classic "Eat Right 4 Your Type" has evolved as her experience and precision have grown. This work is a must read for those desiring a comfortable change to their diets with radically effective results. Khader's delicious recipes and compelling writing will satisfy the most doubtful critic. Following her suggestions, I have greatly improved my circulation and lost several minor ailments. This contribution to the field of nutrition literature is an important launching point for an increasingly important voice in the field. Read this book, apply its lessons and feel good again.
Gourmet recipes for the diet conscious.......2000-07-24
The principals behind this diet have long been proven with the work of Dr. D'Adamo and others. For the first time, however, a series of recipes have been collected that allows the serious "foodie" to enjoy gourmet meals that are properly combined and delicious. I highly recommend the book.
good effort but not user friendly.......2000-07-18
After much anticipation this book was finally published. The premise of the book is very good. Unfortunately it was also disappointing. Although the authors want us to properly combine foods some menus listed incompatible foods at the same meal. For instance grains and proteins. I know the blood type diet approach works because I have been following the principles outlined in D'Adamo"s book "Eat Right 4 Your Type" since January 2000 and not only lost 15 lbs but feel much better with arthritic pains gone and have much more energy. I do not understand the previous reviewer stating she has lost weight since the book just came on the market in the past week or so. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this book as I would like. It is not user friendly.

Customer Reviews:
Not so complete.......2007-02-23
The problem with The Complete Book of Food Combining is that it is far from complete. Lots of material in this book is common knowledge to people who know about nutrition. I was most disappointed, however, by the lack of new information that helps to do food combining in a much less restrictive and more enjoyable manner. I read a book by Marilyn Diamond at least ten years ago that provided some very helpful info such as being able to combine berries with food w/o a problem and being able to combine some fruit with meals in some situations. This info was not included in the book, and I did not find anything new in this book that I didn't already know. In fact, I found it was less informative than Harvey and Marilyn Diamond's original food combining book, Fit for Life, that I read decades ago.
Very complete - answered so many questions for me .......2007-01-23
I was very pleased with this purchase - much more so than I thought. I've purchased a good many books on food combining, but this was the most thorough by far. Before I really got through the bulk of the book, I had planned on contacting the author with a few questions I've had for a long time. The funny thing is, the more time I spent with the book, all of the answers were provided to the questions! Really awesome. Kathryn, you truly do rock!!! And thank you -- from someone whose health is important to her, and feels your support in the pages. It's obvious that you took special care to be as open as you are and in your sharing so much about food combining.
