Book Description
We are an animal-loving population, with consumers in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom spending top dollar on their pets. This trend indicates that pet owners want the best for their dogs and cats. Scientific research shows that home-cooked meals are better for your pets?especially dogs and cats?than store-brand food. Feeding pets all-natural homemade food and treats not only provides nutritional and health benefits, but allows pet owners to meet their pet's taste preferences and special needs, and gives them the opportunity to nurture their dog or cat as they would any other member of the family.
Good Food and Bones is full of information on nutrition for your pet and dozens of stories and recipes from real animal lovers and pet owners that give an intimate, personal voice to the book.
Customer Reviews:
This book stinks!!!.......2007-05-28
This book is recipies only--zero nutritional-needs information for dogs. It has pictures of food prepared for presentation (like my dog cares...) and nothing else. Don't buy it unless you have nothing better to do than prepare food for your doggie dinner party.
Highly recommended!.......2007-04-08
I recently adopted a dog and bought this cookbook because I wanted to supplement a dry dog food diet with some yummy home cooked food. I have since made several recipes in this book and all of them have been a smashing hit with my new pooch. Big favorites are the Lip-Lickin' Liver-Lover's Sauce, chicken & rice stew, peanut butter bones, and ginger bones. I tend to use the stew recipes as a guide more than a strict recipe, sometimes swapping out different veggies and using whole wheat versions of pasta. The stew recipes are great because they are very large -- you can portion them into small containers and freeze them, and you are all set for weeks.
Fun but not functional.......2007-03-27
The book has some wonderful photographs, the layout is creative and includes color photos of every recipe. However I felt the recipes were lacking in healthy protein, carb and vegetable ratios. It is a fun book to read, but I would not recommend it to someone who is interested in educating themselves on canine nutrition.
Fun book but not what I expected.......2007-03-08
I bought this book and Barker's Grub. This book is fun, and nice to look at and does have some good recipes (especially for treats) but I honestly didn't feel comfortable cooking these recipes for my dog on a daily basis. They seemed a bit more careless and thrown together (as in = your dog will love this) and not as conscious of what's healthy and nutrious for your pup. They also seem to be items that go with your dog's processed food instead of "in lieu of." I'd recommend it if you just want something to spice it up every once in a while but not as a full-diet.
My dogs thank you........2007-02-13
This is a wonderful cookbook for our fur babies. It has fun recipes and even recipes for health problems. You can tell by seeing all the great healthy ingredients how much this author loves dogs. I want to thank her for such wonderful ideas. I thank you and my doggies thank you.
