Product Description
Birth - 18 months. A straight-forward and light-hearted approach to teaching infants how to communicate using simple American Sign Language (ASL) signs.
Amazon.com
Sign with Your Baby Complete Learning Kit will enable you to communicate at new levels with your baby long before she can speak. This comprehensive package of book, video, and reference guide shows how simple gestures can communicate ideas like "I'm hungry" or "help me." Caregivers grasp baby's needs immediately rather than learn through trial and error. Dr. Joseph Garcia has designed the system so it's not necessary to learn an entire new language, although it also provides a terrific start in American Sign Language for a hearing-impaired child. A fascinating introduction delves into the development of language in children and uses informative line drawings to demonstrate over 150 hand signs for all kinds of actions and nouns. The accompanying video provides practical tips for getting started, some insight into the hows and whys of this method from Dr. Burton White (director of the Center for Parent Education), and inspiring sights of young babies signing effectively with their caregivers. The laminated quick-reference guide lists some of the most common words in any parent's day: cookie, no, and up are but a few. Garcia's clear, concise methods make learning a breeze, and caregivers gain outstanding new abilities to give the best possible care for the babies entrusted to them. --Jill Lightner
Customer Reviews:
Too much marketing, Not enough vocab........2007-05-26
I started at 7 months, he picked up the first sign at about 10 months, and the rest came around 1 yr. The video/book combination is good because the video shows you the signs and the book is handy for a quick reference.
Drawbacks:
1. I felt like much of the video was still trying to sell me on the idea of doing sign with my baby. It could focus less on marketing and present the information more efficiently.
2. The sign vocabulary is limited to the first stage of sign language learning only. It could be improved by including more vocabulary.
Best Baby Sign Language program.......2007-05-14
I have compared this program with other sign language programs, and it seems to be the best one I have come across so far. At one point, I taught another baby sign language course, whose name I will not mention. The program's signs did not always come close to actual sign language, which I found was offensive to the deaf community. Joseph Garcia's program follows actual signs from ASL, and the program is easy enough to learn if you are willing to put the time and effort into it. I would definitely recommend this baby sign language program for other mothers - the resources are varied - book, DVD, quick reference guide - it's the best out there!!
Awesome purchase.......2007-05-13
I was really glad I purchased this. It is very easy and easy to work into your play time. Recommend it well worth the price
A must buy!.......2007-05-10
I bought this and started introducing it to my daughter as soon as she was brought home from the hospital. Each time I would give her her milk bottle I would do the sign for milk. She signed for milk at age 6 months old. Before she turned a year old, she did the sign for change (the diaper), then it went on and on. Now I kinda kick my butt for teaching her how to do the sign language when she was a baby because she is super articulate for her age and just recently she successfully completed transitional math for kindergarteners-1st graders at age 3.
The DVD is great.......2007-03-15
Just watching the DVD has given me enough to start signing with my 11 month old. I still need to read the book, but it's easy to learn just by watching the DVD. I really like how it shows all these babies doing the signs. These parents' lives seem so much easier because they can communicate with their babies. We've been doing the signs for about a month now and I think he's doing the sign for "more" and he recognizes the sign for "brush teeth" because that's his favorite part of the day. He gets a huge grin on his face when I do it because he knows what's coming up.

Customer Reviews:
A lot of names to look through!.......2007-01-10
I thought the book was great and had lots of interesting name ideas. It organzied names alphabetically but also in like-sounding names, names that were pairs, famous people's names, etc. The only thing I did not like was that the pronounciations were not provided. Other than that I thought the book had great ideas, was very organized, and I plan on passing it on to my pregnant friends.
Tons of names.......2007-01-10
As the title suggests, there are a ton of names in this book. I would have appreciated some more depth to at least a portion of the names. However, I really liked the sheer number of names. The names in this book went beyond the run-of-the-mill, most popular names. Some of the names are unrealistic and laughable. Overall, a good book to use as a starting point.
A lot of names..........2007-01-03
Although this book does have the huge number of names that it promises, many of them are just numerous spellings of the same name. I also did notice that the book contains lots of exotic names, and not as much of a focus on traditional names. So if you're looking for a name specific to your heritage (like you're parents are from Vietnam and you want a Vietnamese name), this is a great book. But if you're looking for something a little more mainstream, you may want to go with something else. The one thing that really made me a little mad, though, was that they misspelled a country's name (just so happened to be the one that my baby's father is from, so I noticed). I don't have the book with me right now, but I think they put Tai rather than Thai (as in Thailand)!!! Get an EDITOR!!!
Lots of false information.......2007-01-01
I think the author should have used more reliable sources, there are LOTS of mistakes in the meanings of names. Serves as good inspiration, but before settling for a name from this book one should check the REAL background of the name with a more reliable source.
Too Many Names.......2006-12-28
This book didn't help us decide on a name. I became overwhelmed with the number of names, and actually bought a different book to assist us. Too many names, too many variations and spellings of the same name. It contains a lot of extremely common names.

"I cannot draw you a picture of Peter and Benjamin underneath the basket," writes Beatrix Potter in The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, "because it was quite dark, and because the smell of onions was fearful; it made Peter Rabbit and little Benjamin cry." Beatrix Potter's animal stories, the first of which was published in 1902, have been a joy to generations of young readers. This deluxe volume collects all of Beatrix Potter's 23 Peter Rabbit tales and verses together--complete and unabridged--in one book. All the original illustrations, both color and black and white, are included. The stories are arranged in the order in which they were first published to enable them to be read in the proper sequence, from A Tale of Peter Rabbit to The Tale of Little Pig Robinson. Beatrix Potter's tales were often connected with real places, people, or animals, so each story also includes a brief introductory note about its history. For example, "The story of naughty Peter Rabbit in Mr. McGregor's garden first appeared in a picture letter Beatrix Potter wrote to Noel Moore, the young son of her former governess, in 1893." In addition to the original 23 tales, this edition contains two early narrative picture sequences, Three Little Mice and The Rabbit's Christmas Party. And, there are two charming little stories, The Sly Old Cat and The Fox and the Stork, which were originally intended to be worked up into books, but remained unpublished. This beautiful introduction to the world of Beatrix Potter is sure to remain on the family bookshelf for generations to come. (Baby to Preschool)
Book Description
"It spoils people's clothes to squeeze under a gate; the proper way to get in, is to climb down a pear tree," said Little Benjamin Bunny. Hear Peter Rabbit outwit old Mr. McGregor and Squirrel Nutkin come within a tail's length of being an owl's dinner. Listen as a family of mice save the kind tailor of Glouster and how Peter and Benjamin Bunny battle a barn cat. Learn how two bad mice and one fierce rabbit are set on the road to honesty.
Beatrix Potter's amazing universe of animals dressed in human clothing has taught and entertained children for nearly a century. Her love of animals and children is apparent in each of these twenty-one tales.
Customer Reviews:
One of the greatest childrens books.......2007-04-01
This is a must read for little kids. It's fun, entertaining, politically incorrect, well illustrated, teaches good lessons and uses the English language the way it was meant to be. The high-gloss paper is nice.
A Beautiful Book.......2006-11-10
I bought this book for my grandchildren, and couldn't be more pleased. A great introduction to classic children's books. Beautifully illustrated with the original drawings. This is a book to keep and pass down to the next generation.
The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter.......2006-08-25
This was my first purchase from Amazon and I was very pleased with the professional service and the quick delivery of my order
A staple for every home library.......2006-02-25
How wonderful it has been to get reintroduced to all of Potter's sweet characters. My mom had a small board book collection when I was growing up and I forgot all about these stories. There is just something so warm and relaxing about them. My four year old is loving them (they're a bit too long for my two year old's attention span and she usually wanders away after awhile). However you just can't go wrong with this book--it's a classic and definitely timeless. My only suggestion is that sometimes a "complete" edition is the cheaper route to go, but it does make for a heavy book for little ones to tote around or try to flip through. So if you are looking for something to be a more kid friendly you may want to purchase the individual stories separately.
The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter.......2005-10-30
The book I received wasn't the same as the one pictured in the listing. It is the same text but it came in a box as opposed to having a dust cover. Other than that I am happy with my purchase.

Book Description
A perennial bestseller, now revised and updated for a new generation of fathers, this readable, inspiring guide to the world of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers is an indispensable treasury of advice, ideas, and suggestions.
Customer Reviews:
Must read for expecting dads.......2006-11-05
This book targets guys and their way of thinking really well as it gets to the point and includes a lot of practical pointers for everything from pregnancy to all the changes that occur after the baby is born. My husband has volunteered information he has learned from this book and is reading it of his own volition.
Informative and helpful for first time dads.......2006-05-08
My partner is a savvy, well informed kind of guy. I had some fear that he would think this book was lame or at least unhelpful when I gave it to him when we were a couple months pregnant. He read the book and sang its praises for the practical ideas and advice it gave for dads to help mom in pregnancy and things to do with the baby when he/she arrives. It's not just pregnancy or baby focused, but includes ideas and activities for dad throughout baby and childhood.
accessible guide to responsible fatherhood.......2004-11-21
The author is a father of two sons and a child-center volunteer, but this book is not just one random guy's ruminations on how to be a better father. The author is also an experienced book editor, and he uses those skills to blend the experiences of nearly 50 other fathers of various backgrounds as he compiles this almanac of observations and seasoned advice.
The style is matter-of-fact yet sympathetic; pragmatic, down-to-earth, and engaging. The content is fair and balanced, offering varying points of view on many details of child-rearing, and does not preach. And while fairly nuanced in this way, on the other hand, it's not wishy-washy and "anything goes" about things -- it's also crisply authoritative in areas where there is just one no-nonsense way to go. E.g., the dangers of older cribs and the maximum recommended gaps between slats, or other safety issues not really open to much experimentation.
Overall though, the book is refreshingly descriptive rather than prescriptive. It's a nice mix of specific, often creative suggestions along with a general philosophy of caring, healthy, and personally appropriate/satisfying fatherhood.
The Almanac will make an excellent gift for fathers of newborns or young children -- up to approximately kindergarten, I'd say, although some of the material is appropriate for even slightly older children too.
Note: although even the more recent edition feels slightly dated simply because the pictures are old, the material itself is all still relevant as far as I could tell.
ONLY THE BEST ON THE MARKET.......2000-08-27
I raised my daughter by this book, and then gave it away to a young father who has raised his son on it. I am an Infant/Toddler teacher and am familiar with very very many many books for parents ... and as far as I am concerned this is only the best book of its kind on the market for fathers.
Excellent book for first time or even experienced fathers.......2000-06-19
This book is great! It covers the kids, the wives, the boys, and the girls. It has great ideas, and answers all those Dad questions that you never want to ask your wife.

Great DVD.......2007-05-03
For unknown reason my baby loved this DVD but paid no attention to Baby Einsteins DVDs. Now she is 18 months old and moved on to Little Einsteins which is a lot better than Baby Einsteins(At least I enjoy viewing it with my baby!)
Very disappointed.......2007-03-08
I was very disappointed in this item and ultimately returned it. The little books are cute, the flip chart looks very useful and the kids DVD is really cute. The adult DVD is almost laughable - about 20 years old - literally and i found there was no literature that gave you tips and guidance on how to actually teach your child sign language. the workbook that came with the package just speaks about how great and useful signing is but provides to guidance. as i said the books are cute, but are you really going to teach your baby to sign with a book - probably not, you are going to teach to sign when you in the moment. for $40, this item is not worth it. i returned it and paid $35 to take a 2-hour class instead.
babies can talk using thier hands.......2007-02-16
The Baby Signs kit contained everything that I needed in order to learn the simple hand signs that will allow me to "talk" with my very young grandchildren. I have been working with children for over 30 years and I wish this program would have been available then.
Young children become so frustrated when they know what they want and cannot "tell" someone. Baby Signs allows the child and the adult to"talk".
looks great.......2007-01-19
I ordered this kit because i am 6 months pregnant with my second child. When the kit came I opened everything up and let my 3 y/o play with the board books. I told her that when the new baby comes she can help me teach her the signs. My 3 y/o is very excited about this and I have began teaching her the signs already. I can't wait to teach the new baby as well!

Feed me good healthy food!.......2007-04-22
3 children all started eating these recipes as babies... now they are all big kids! We loved this book! It will be packed away with the "babys firsts". This is the best way to feed your child. Real food, with real taste, right from the start. The only problem was potential allergy issues.
great for beginners.......2006-08-16
This book would have been so great to have from the beginning, but my son is a bit old for the recipes in it. I would highly recommend it for someone just starting solids. There are so many tasty varieties to try.
Its a life saver..........2006-07-02
I bought this book along with Lorraine Kellys paperback as I hadn't a clue what to feed our baby let alone how! I really wanted our baby to eat fresh healthy foods so that when she could eat the same as her parents we wouldn't have a battle on our hands. Between the two books this one is my favourite.
The book is well laid out with clear and easy to follow guidelines and recipes. Yes, it takes a while to get the cooking done but it saves alot of money and time in the end(compared to processed foods). The recipes are tasty and surprisingly different - apple in mini burgers (which I thought she'd hate - but loved) and clever presentations that make meal times less of a battle. The end of the book includes recipes that all the family can eat.
Annabel doesn't promise your baby will always eat but she does guide you along with her years of experience as a Mother and a cook.
A real life saver for us. You won't be disappointed.
Great book!.......2005-09-01
This book provides great guidelines for preparing and storing baby food. I also like photos in my cookbooks and this book has plenty of them. I can't wait until my daughter gets old enough so that we can try the toddler recipes. Just take note that Karmel is a British author so some of the foods she suggests for babies may differ from what American pediatricians recommend.
For the whole family.......2005-04-01
I saw this book at a friend's house, who just moved back from the U.K. and bought this book there. We both have daughters who are the same age, and spend a lot of time at each others house. After eating several meals together with the kids, I deceided that their food tasted much better than the things I cooked. The first time I made a receipe from the book, my husband came home and was all excited, smelling the flavours before he even entered the house, hoping this would be our dinner. Sadly, not only I had to tell him that I was cooking for our 1 year old daughter, but in addition fight him off tasting the food.
My daughter is now 2 years 3 month old and I am still using receipes on a regualr basis from this book to cook dinner for the whole family.
I highly recommened, especially for first time moms, who wonder what to make for thir child besides steamed carrots and broccoli. Very healthy receipes that taste AWESOME!!!!

The 9 months preceding and the 12 months following child birth are exciting, trying, confusing times; they are the months of many questions. You wonder about your itchy palms, morning sickness, fetus development, home midwife or hospital doctor choices, what to eat, amniocentesis, miscarriages, labor painkillers, maintaining your physical and emotional health after childbirth, and, not least, how to care for your growing, developing baby. A live-in pediatrician would be nice; a 750-page comprehensive reference guide is the next best solution. It won't eliminate anxiety, but it's a reassuring presence, and a soothing source of answers and explanations.

For more than a century, the health care professionals at Mayo Clinic have dedicated themselves to the well-being of the family. And in the life of the family, what more significant event can there be than the birth of a baby?
Beginning with the decision to start a family, this comprehensive book guides parents through each phase of pregnancy, birth, and baby's all-important first year. A special eight-page section features color photographs of how the baby develops during pregnancy.

Today's many birthing options are explained in full, and a detailed description of labor and birth helps parents anticipate this powerful experience. Good book, but appears out dated...........2006-04-28
I was very excited to receive this book, and started reading it immediately. It is a large hard-cover edition, certainly making it feel as though it has all the information you'll ever need. I'm sure this book has tons of good information, but when I got to the nutrition section, I knew that the food pyramid they showed was out of date. I hadn't checked the copyright when I ordered the book and was disappointed to see that it was published in 1994! 12 years old is pretty old when it comes to any medical/health information, and so I'm returning it for the more updated "Mayo Clinic Guide to a healthy Pregnancy". I would have liked the new version to also cover the first year of life like this book, but I need up-to-date information, or I won't trust it.
The Best.......2005-06-13
This is absolutely the best resource for anyone trying to conceive, pregnant, with an infant or just curious about the entire process.
My husband and I used this exculisevly with our first child. Now that we are ready to have a second, I've tried other books (What to Expect, Girlfriend's Guide, etc) and have been dissapointed by all. This is truly the only book you need for pre-conception through your child's first birthday.
I love that this book take a serious tone and a more professional viewpoint. It doesn't joke or make fun of any part of the pregnancy process. One of my favorite parts was its breakdown of labour and delivery. I read this section many times and made notecards to take to the hospital with us.
Everytime our daughter sneezed, spit-up or had a fever we ran for this book. (hey we were first time parents!) I was living very far from my own family in a country were I didn't speak the language. This book was my bible and comfort. I never thought to look anywhere else for answers.

This is a wonderful book to have throughout your pregnancy and your child's first year. It has been a great help to me and my family. Yes, it is a thick book, but it has lots of great information.
I suggest that everyone own a copy so that's why I'd like everyone to know that you can contact your local State Farm office and they will send you one for free. You don't even have to be a customer and they don't try to get you to switch to their insurance. The phone call was less than 5 minutes which is great when you're a busy mom. No, I don't work for State Farm, I just like to get stuff for free.
Not bad.........2005-02-02
This is a big heavy book, full of lots of information. But as other posters have mentioned, it is a bit outdated. It calls Norplant and Depo "New", when it has been around for awhile now. The pictures are a little outdated. I liked Miriam Stoppards "Conception, Pregnancy and Birth" for its pictures and brief look at topics. I will use this one a reference, but some of the sections need a complete overhaul.
This is a must for the first year and beyond...........2005-01-04
This is a great book that I received when I was pregnant with my twin boys who were born at 35 weeks. They are now 3 1/2 and I have a little girl that is just 18 months old. I find that every now and then I refer back to this book for one reason or another... even now! I love this book. I didn't read it cover-to-cover but I wound up looking in the glossary for certain topics that pertained to the moment. I got the answer I needed in a pinch -- sometimes in the middle of the night. This is a wonderful gift for a friend or family member who is expecting... not just for first time parents either.
Keep this book on hand as your children grow up. You just never know when you're going to need it!

Book Description
Americas favorite pediatric experts turn their attention to the hottest topic in parentingsolving babies sleep problemsin a definitive book that offers immediate results. For every parent whos ever been deprived of sleep by a restless infant or toddler, now theres hope. This much-needed addition to the Sears Parenting Library is the comprehensive, reassuring, solution-filled sleep resource that virtually every American family will want to own. Nighttime separation anxiety, new breastfeeding habits, and an increase in adult sleep problems have made babies sleep habits a growing concern in recent years. The Searses offer solutions. Instead of espousing the kind of one-method-fits-all approach advocated in other parenting books, the Searses teach parents how to match the nighttime temperament of their baby to their own lifestyle. The authors draw on important new infant sleep research from the Mother-Baby Sleep Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame, as well as on their own personal experience as parents of children with a wide range of sleep habits. They also offer a detailed critique of the myriad new devices and ballyhooed techniques that promise to deliver safer and better infant sleep. THE BABY SLEEP BOOK provides parents with the practical tools they need to help the entire family sleep better.

A Great Sleeping Tool.......2007-06-05
Thank you Dr. Sears! My son and I (and husband too) are all sleeping better. I took his advice and started napping with my son (he has plenty of other suggestions, but this was most fitting for us). It took awhile, but he now naps on his own and doesn't wake up at 30 minutes like he used to. I miss my naps a little, so we still co-nap on occassion...but now I can do laundry, dishes, email, etc. while he sleeps if I want to. YAY! My husband read the section on co-sleeping and decided it was something we should do...I didn't need any convincing...we're all sleeping together and waking up well rested!
On the Fence..........2007-05-18
I have very mixed feelings about this book, especially since I have had it for about a year, am 25 weeks pregnant with #2, and have a 19 month old who STILL wakes up multiple times per night.
Since Emma came home from the hospital, she was pretty clear that she was going to be difficult about sleep, so it was easy for me, naive and worried about EVERYTHING, to fall into Dr. Sears AP approach to nighttime parenting. I took on the sole responsiblity of parenting her to sleep b/c I honestly believed I was the only one who could. She was breastfed, and while I think it is impractical to try not to let a breastfeeding baby fall asleep at the breast, I definitely think that we could have modified our methods to allow more Dad interaction. Some of the reviewers have said basically that this is a mom-centered book but that isn't entirely the case. He does have a whole chapter on dads and how they can get involved at night and with sleep. I just didn't want to let her cry at ALL and being with Dad made her cry.
In the early days, when babies wake up all night, co-sleeping did seem to help with sleep deprivation, but I wish that I had been more adamant about her sleeping by herself sooner. I have a book on breastfeeding by Janet Tamaro, and she makes the point in the section about sleep/nighttime that any habit can be broken, but it will take time.
The naptime strategies help; I do have a very good napper. Her nighttime habits just haven't really matured. And I do respect the fact that children sleep differently, but I need help, not someone to tell me that over and over. The Drs. Sears do say that if something isn't working for you it needs to be fixed, but I wish there were more solutions instead of what seem to be general suggestions.
Okay, I now have Dr. Weissbluth's "Healthy Sleep Habits Healthy Child," and Emma now sleeps through the night (11-12 hours) with not a peep out of her. I totally recommend his book. It took three days and she was sleeping like she NEEDS to. Cheers!!
Found this book very usefull.......2007-05-08
I was very against putting my baby asleep using the 'cry it out' method. This book justified my beliefs and gave very good reasons why that method is not effective. It gives good tips on getting baby to sleep on their own without causing them undo distress. I was able to take what I could use from this book and use if effectively on my son.
worthless.......2007-02-03
I wouldn't give this book one star if I didn't have to!
Don't buy this book if you have other Dr.Sears books. All he does is repeat the same info over and over again. Plus, his viewpoint is based on just that: his point of view. No research on infant sleep patterns, nothing. It's pure fluff and nonsense. Claiming that you are damaging your baby by letting him/her cry it out is also irresponsible. He compares our industrialized society with societies that are less industrially developed placing too much value on how these people parent their children without focusing on the fact that if these people had the means, they would live like we do, too, and would probably end up parenting their children like we do, too. Or does he truly endorse that parents and children sleep in the same room for years and years? Come on!
Sears' book doesn't help and only exhausts the parents, especially the mother. If you are interested in infant sleep, read "Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. He at least knows what he is talking about, and bases his book on scientific research. Plus, he has some REAL solutions, not just opinions.
The Baby Sleep Book: The Complete Guide to a Good Night's Rest for the Whole Family .......2007-01-17
IT WORKS! It took a few days but my 4 month old has been sleeping through the night for a month now (with a few nights when he was sick or going through a growth spurt and needed feedings) I HIGHLY recommend this!

Book Description
A new way to talk to baby!
Baby sign language is a way for parents to communicate with their babies before they can speak by teaching them a few basic gestures or signs. It's a way to bridge the gap between the gurgling stage and the time when babies are actually able to talk. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Baby Signs introduces parents to the 60 to 80 most common signs nonverbal babies are able to understand and can use to communicate with adults, as well as demonstrations and techniques for teaching the signs.
Customer Reviews:
such great info. .......2007-06-28
This book is great! the info is thourough but not boring to read. it explains what you need to do to help teach your little one to sighn. plus the sighns are ASL. I definantly recommend this book.
Great eye opener.......2007-04-01
I have found out how to make a child smarter using sign language. When you sign for the baby, you need to pronounce the word also, which stumulates left and right part of the brain, which makes baby smarter. I will definately use it when my baby is 6-7 month old to help the development of its brain faster.
From a Grandma.......2007-03-10
I bought this book from Amazon along with a few others and had it shipped to my daughter who is pregnant with her first child. She seems to really be enjoying reading it and says she is learning a lot from it.
If you want a smart, happy, non frustrated baby....teach your baby sign lanugage!!.......2006-11-29
I cannot stress enough how important it is to learn sign language with your child. I have been teaching sign language to my son since he was 10 months. I recieved this book as a gift and it has helped take our sign language even further. My son is a happy little boy, who is not frustrated, and is really smart. I have sign language to help with that!! Don't be worried that if you teach your child sign language that they will never talk. My son is 16 months, he can sign and say partial words to at least 10 different things, not to mention he is starting to combine words. At 15 months he was able to tell me that he needed to go potty, so potty training has begun. I find it all so amazing, and all I can rave about is how sign language has made it all possible!!
Simple and Convincing.......2006-11-03
I love this book because it makes baby sign language SO simple. She clearly explains the reasons to do it and de-bunks myths as well. Some of the other books are overwhelming...this one breaks it down to the key signs and the best order for introducing signs. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to sign with their baby!

Helpful manual for picky eaters.......2007-06-12
This book provides actual recipes and tips for getting even finicky eaters to try foods. What I love is that it spells everything out for you in a fun-to-read format. It underscores what vitamins and minerals are essential for your baby's needs and how to get aorund the most picky of eaters, of which my son is one. At least there are many options, so that if one recipe doesn't work, there are dozens more to try. I highly recommend this one.
Great gift idea...........2007-06-10
I recently purchased The Complete Guide to Feeding your Baby and Toddler for a baby shower gift, and I wish it had been available when I was a first time mother. It is simple, well organized, and it is NOT filled with impossible to make baby foods. I especially like the supermarket section. I highly recommend this book to first time moms and for moms who have picky children.
The Best Gift for a New Mom.......2007-05-15
As a non medical professional, this book helps those of us not fluent in the ever changing, sometimes controversial, nutrition spectrum for kids. The author captures the basics, some best practices and some very revealing information on what 'not' to feed your child. It's a great resource for those interested in solid nutrition and a great gift idea for new moms.
Not impressed.......2007-04-11
I'm not impressed with the organization and flow of this book. Perhaps it's just not what I was looking for. It just doesn't seem to flow to me as an "idiot's guide"...and that's exactly what I needed as a first time mom looking for a good, concise source of feeding and nutrition information for introducing solid foods to an infant.
Great Guide for Parents!.......2007-02-08
As a pediatrician, I'm constantly on the lookout for resources for parents. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Feeding Your Baby and Toddler is an excellent resource that packs a ton of important information into an easy-to-read reference.
The first part is geared toward starting infants under a year on solids and provides step-by-step instructions for parents just starting to make their own baby food or feed their infant from a jar. The rest of the book focuses mainly on toddlers who eat table foods. Along with important nutrition details about vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and fats, I found the cooking tips included in the second half of the book to be most useful. The chapter called "Supermarket Savvy" shares great ideas to make store-bought/convenience foods healthier (such as adding apple juice and chopped raisins and celery to stuffing mix or mixing instant oatmeal into refrigerated cookie dough). The recipe section is better than most cookbooks I've seen for kids because it includes healthy recipes for foods that kids will actually eat (such as apple crisp, meatballs, pudding popsicles, blueberry muffins, chips made from pita bread, and macaroni and cheese).
This Complete Idiot's Guide does a wonderful job of making feeding and nutrition easy for parents--without making you *feel* like a complete idiot. I highly recommend it and refer to it often myself when making meals and snacks for my own family!
