I purchased 2 copies of Betty Crocker's Diabetes Cookbook because my great nephew who is 5 years old is a diabetic. I want him to be able to spend time with me and his cousins, but I want to prepare meals that everyone can eat. Betty Crocker did just that and I can prepare his meals and know exactly what the carbs are without any difficult. This book is for anyone who wants to be healthy. I gave the other copy of the book to his grandmother. I highly recommend this book and it want take long to prepare a nice healthy meal for a diabetic. And, it's easy to read.

The Betty Crocker full cookbook has been my staple for many years of cooking and teaching food. I have all of the series that has been printed since 1950. Each book carries recipes that are different from the other books and these recipes are basic for my cooking assortment. About a year ago, I developed a sudden unaccountable interest in cooking. I therefore found myself purchasing every major general cookbook I could find.

This was a mistake: "Betty Crocker's Cookbook" is really all I needed. There's a reason that name has the reputation it does.

In addition to the many glorious pictures (not just of finished dishes, but also of processes and arrays of easily confused items, such as nuts or lamb chops), the thing I like about this one is that is gives you "normal" if you know what I mean.

Suppose you want a recipe for marinara sauce, or lasagna, or breaded veal. This book will give it to you without anything bizarre being thrown in.

I hate how when you need a recipe for something, say "alfredo sauce," you go to your cookbook, and the closest they have is "alfredo sauce with chicken dumplings," or something strange like that.

Betty Crocker's cookbook doesn't do that do you. They give it to you straight.

My 76 year old mother would say many times that she wished she had not given away her favorite cookbook. I was incredibly happy to learn that it was still in print. I have given her many gifts each year on Mother's Day but this gift pleased her more than any I have given her. This book with its colorful photos is the exact replica and the recipes are wonderful. They evoked memories of our favorite comfort foods we shared as children. Going through the book with my mom made it a special Mother's Day. I think I will borrow it for cooking with my own granddaughter. Thanks for keeping the great recipes going.

I love working from this cookbook, it reminds me of when my mother was teaching me to cook many years ago.

I particularly like the section on breads and rolls, nice illustrations of the ways to create many types of rolls.

I'd give it 5 stars, except that there have been a lot of VERY good tasting foods that have been developed after this book was written, the appetizer section in particular is weak.

I love this book! Everything is easy to make. Lots of the ingredients are food most people keep as staples. I also like that there are plenty of photos which is always a bonus in a cookbook. I think kids will like most of the recipes. This is a must have for any one who has a family to cook for.

I highly recommend this book. I have tried 4 recipes so far and they really were easy and tasty. I wasn't able to make the crepes because my equipment wasn't very good but I just substituted tortillas!! It is a little more work than I am used to in the kitchen, but it is worth it because they food is so much more interesting with just a little more effort.

WONDERFUL.......2007-06-21

This is one of my most used slow cooker cookbooks. I like everything about it. It is great that it is spiral bound. I have used many of the recipes and every one of them has turned out delicious. The cooking times listed are just about right. Some of the recipes may have too much salt, so I use my judgment and just decrease it a bit. After all, it is easy to add salt at the table if necessary. However, sometimes the recipe will say to use either wine OR beef broth or something similar. That, of course, changes the amount of salt necessary, so I need to adjust accordingly. I love how the proper size of each slow cooker is mentioned for each recipe. So many cookbooks don't mention that, and you just have to figure it out based on the number of servings.

I love this cookbook and I think it is one of the best slow cooker cookbooks available.

i dont like to use canned foods. . . every recipe has ingredients from cans or already prepared food. sauces and other ingredients you have yto buy already made- not home cooked. . . and the prepared or "already cooked" stuff doesnt have a recipe!!! a cookbook should tell you how to make everything- not how to put it together!

Old-fashioned bread the new-fashioned way, Betty calls it. Easy, convenient, modern. There's no knead for loafing. Not with that fabulous combination in the kitchen: Betty Crocker and the bread machine.

The construction of this book, first of all, is wonderful. The cover is hard and the binding is heavy, enameled spiral. Each page lays flat on the counter, or you can hold the book open on one arm while doing something with the other hand. This suggests that Betty Crocker wrote her bread-baking cookbook with serious use in mind. She certainly tested her recipes. A variety of bread machines were used, which means that each recipe was tested a number of different times. Betty tells you exactly what kind of flour she used, as well as salt, size of eggs, kind of yeast, etc. She leaves nothing to chance.

Bread machine baking has its own peculiarities, and Betty addresses all these right up front, the hows and how-tos (as well as the whys and wherefores) of getting the perfect loaf every time. There's a troubleshooting section, as well as a frequently asked question section. Then it's right into the recipes, all 130 of them.

I purchased this as a shower gift. I had two different brides getting, and Betty had two different but similar cookbooks. So I gave one to each of the gals. My hope is that they will be as well worn and used as the Betty Crocker Cookbook I received as a shower gift 30 plus years ago.
I did like that nutritional info was given for each recipe, calories, fat grams, etc.

This Bridal Edition of the well known Betty Crocker Cookbook was a big hit at the bridaly shower where I gave it as a gift. The book is beautiful - from the cover all the way through. Plenty of room for the newlyweds to make it their cookbook by adding notes, comments and important dates. The recipes were accompanied by lovely how-to photographs as well as finished product photos. Because it was unique it was passed around for all to see and everyone from the bride to the groom at home found it a delightful and personal gift.

My mother gave this to me as a wedding gift and although I have been cooking all my life I have found this to be extremely helpful with things I've always seen my mother make but never thought about how to actually make. It also has a lot of neat pictures about how to do things and includes details about menu planning, setting a table, menu ideas, and how to throw a dinner party. I love this so much I'm also sending a copy to all my friends who are getting married and can't wait to give it to my own daughters as wedding gifts. (my college roomates mother gave her one too and she is also in love with it)

Disappointing!.......2007-05-13

This book was very disappointing for me. Some of the information contradicted itself regarding nutropenia, which made me suspicious of the content of other topics. I have only tried one of the recipes and didn't care for the taste.

Just a Cookbook with a unique spin.......2007-03-18

This is a useful cookbook for reference, but it is not something that I feel is absolutely necessary in my cooking library. As a regular cook and a breast cancer patient, I found the recipes to be basic modifications of ordinary recipes.

If you are struggling with a specific side effect of cancer, then this book does offer helpful organization of foods/recipes for that purpose. It is useful in that way. On the other hand, I think most cancer patients find a core group of foods that they tolerate well, and stick with them through treatment. Also, talking with other patients and reading internet articles has been more useful to me than this cookbook. Sorry -- but I really think this is just another way to market something to cancer patients. We're vulnerable once we're diagnosed, so watch out.

I gave this book to my grandmother. It has tips on dealing with nasea, how to prepare food so it doesn't taste metalic, etc... Lots of real and useful information for getting proper nutrition. My grandmother wasn't in the right frame of mind to accept the information. Good food will greatly contribute to our health and well being, I'm sad she could not allow herself this. It is a great book without being to new agey- after all it's by America's kitchen sweetheart, Betty Crocker. How more traditional can you get? Best of health to you and yours.

Favorite Cookbook.......2006-04-26

I have also had this book since soon after its publication. I have never been disappointed with the results and refer to it often. The recipes create an authentic tasting international dish, with nice presentation. They may not be as authentic in source ingredients as the Time-Life Series of International Cookbooks, but, and this is a big deal, Betty Crocker makes these dishes accessible to every cook, much like Julia Child made French cooking accessible to the American home cook. My copy is full of sticky notes and bookmarks on the many pages I return to on a regular basis every year (Hot Cross Buns, St. Lucia Buns, Coulibiac, Steak Ezterhazy, Blueberry Crisp, Cheese-stuffed Mushrooms, Greek Cheese Puffs, Couscous, etc etc).

I am sad that I can't buy the original edition in new publication because I truly think it is one of the best in my collection and want my daughter to have a copy!

My all time favorite cookbook.......2003-08-08

Besides my mother's recipes, this is the cookbook I used the most (and I own about 150 cookbooks). By luck, I bought it not long after I got married. The content of this book is a solid foundation for a lifetime of good cooking for weekdays and holidays. I read with curiosity all the comments and tips. They provide good basic information that is necessary for international dishes. The recipes are very reliable, clear and precise. The pictures are great and very helpful. I tried almost all the recipes and we have numerous favorites.
The book is not outdated even 23 years after it was first published. A great selection from all over the world. I bought several copies to my friends and now I buy used ones for my daughters. I don't like Betty Crocker's New International Cookbook as much as this one.

My favourite cookbook.......2002-10-08

A year ago I bought this book. I think it was my best Amazon purchase. It teaches everything you need to know to get started in the kitchen. With detailed tutorials, it's a foolprof book.
This edition is also very confortable to use.
It's divided in several chapters: Cook's techniques and Ingridients; Appetizers and Beverages; Breads (quick breads like muffins,biscuits, pancakes; yeast breads like french bread, challah bread); Cakes and Pies; Cookies and candies; Desserts (like Cheesecake); Eggs and cheese; Fish and Shellfish; Grains and Legumes; Meats; Pasta; Poultry; Salads and salad dressings (including the classic Ceasar's Salad and Creamy Coleslaw); Sauces, seasonings and condiments; Stews, soups and Sandwiches; Vegetables; Special Helps and Index.
