About the Artist
In November of 1997, Centro-matic was asked to open a Promise Ring show in Denton, Texas. It was a kind of odd pairing, as The Promise Ring are more often lumped into the underground punk rock category, rather than the rough-hewn independent rock and roll Centro-matic usually play. Still, the show went on, and despite terrific technical failures, friends were made, and the Promise Ring asked Centro-matic to play a series of shows with them in the summer of 1999, ending a solid year of touring in support of their sucessful album, "Very Emergency". I was a lucky fly on the wall, and spent a week hanging around rock clubs of the Midwest, "rider crashing," and generally living the indie rock life (and dreading the imminent return to my corporate day job). At the last show of the tour, fully lubed up (thanks to the plethora of free beer backstage), I asked Vermont's/The Promise Ring's Dan Didier if Vermont would like to do a split EP with Centro-matic. He graciously agreed, and now, 15 months later, I give you "Vermont + Centro-matic = Opportunity".
Product Description
Milwaukee's Vermont (better known as one-half of The Promise Ring) and Denton's Centro-matic team up for a 6-song split EP. Each band offers up two (previously unreleased) original tracks, and a cover of the other, including Vermont's ethereal take on "Say Something/95 Frowns" (from Centro-matic's "The Static vs. The Strings Vol. I") and Centro-matic's extended version of "Old Blue" (from Vermont's "Living Together" album).
