The ARS NOVA trio (Keyboards, bass & drums-violin) performs a kind of instrumental symphonic rock, dominated by emphatic-sounding, majestic keyboards and by the complex compositions of Keiko KUMAGAI. Frequent rhythm breaks, elaborated harmonies, feverish tension-filled crescendos and quite contrasted keyboards create a feminine counterpart to the boys of GERARD (!!!). On "The Goddess Of Darkness" (1996), the symphonic keyboards are melodramatically close to the best of EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER. "The Book Of The Dead" (1998) is the Musea version of the instrumental concept-album "Reu Nu Pert Em Ru" dedicated to Ancient Egypt. Those fragile looking girls perform a very structured and refined music, full of climaxes and of energy-filled crescendos, as well as of elaborated arrangements. A permanent tension expressing itself among others through blazing Moog solos and agonising keyboards parts. An astonishing instrumental work and a technique that remind of Dutch band! TRACE or of Italian band BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO, thanks to the absence of virtuosity for the sake of it, also to some classical influences and mainly thanks to original compositions, free of cliches and of cold and common technique.
