The Best of Mano Negra

During their time together in the late '80s and early '90s, the French band with the Spanish name gave real meaning to the term ethno-punk. Imagine the Clash fired not only by reggae and rockabilly, but also rai, dub, hip-hop, and a strongly Latin sensibility, and you have a picture of Mano Negra. This compilation collects tracks from five of their albums that indicate not only the breadth of their vision, but also the musical range, and the passion that informed everything they did. More than the start of rock en Español, this is the full multiculti punk experience. The band may no longer be around, but a listen to this shows that the spirit can't be extinguished. La luta continua.... --Chris Nickson
