About the Artist
Jamie Hoovers duties in North Carolinas Spongetones for the last 23 years have included songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, producer, recording engineer, arranger, bassist, sometimes drummer, and other various musical noises. Jamie has recorded and produced all eight records for The Spongetones, with rave reviews in Rolling Stone, Billboard, Trouser Press, Goldmine, and many others. He as also served as the sideman of choice during that time for Don Dixon, Marti Jones, The Smithereens, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Graham Parker.
Although his original claim to fame was as a country songwriter (and half of the hip country duo Foster and Lloyd, who recorded for RCA in the '80s), Bill Lloyd has always been a true popster at heart. His solo albums Feeling the Elephant, Set to Pop, and Standing On The Shoulders of Giants garnered praise from USA Today, Request, Pulse, No Depression, Sound and Vision, and Goldmine.
Lloyd has produced projects for other acts including The Thompson Brothers, Carl Perkins, Sweethearts of the Rodeo and Webb Wilder. His songs have been covered by a diverse range of artists including Hootie and the Blowfish, Guy Clark, Tanya Tucker, Martina McBride, Poco, Marshall Crenshaw, Juice Newton, Beth Neilsen Chapman, Al Anderson, Jill Sobule, Webb Wilder, Joy Lynn White, The Kennedys, Ben Vaughn and even Maureen McCormack (that's Marsha Brady to most of us). As a session player and singer, he has appeared on albums by Steve Earle, Buck Owens and Ringo Starr, Marshall Crenshaw, Kim Richey, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Beth Neilsen Chapman, Webb Wilder, Steppenwolf, Ricky Van Shelton and George Ducas, among others
Product Description
Separately Jamie Hoover and Bill Lloyd have established themselves as luminaries of Power Pop during their 20+ years in music. A joint project between the two was as natural of a progression as 1-4-5. Joined by Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken, their collaborative debut is everything a fan of their previous works could ask for, with songs influenced equally by The Beatles, early Big Star, Anglo pop and Everly Brothers-styled country; in addition to the requisite big, ringing guitars.
