About the Artist
Patient History:
Rhode Island native Joe Bochar (a.k.a. Joboj) has been addicted to making music for 17 odd years now. His sometimes erratic, always-inspired guitar playing indicates an intense passion and drive to compose.
Current Diagnosis:
Jobojs workaholic behavior has resulted in 4 albums (Anvilhead, Orange, Raw Sausage Finger and, most recently X), each distinctive in their sound. Obsessive in nature, Bochar insists on "doing it all". Of his latest project Joe says, "I produced X myself, wrote all the songs, played all the instruments, recorded it in my home studio and then designed the CD. Im living proof that you can do everything if you really want to. If anyone tells you no, that should fire you up even more."
His mania has resulted in high creative work with a definitely different sound. "I write what fits the song. If I did every song with the same guitar tone, itd get kind of boring. You progress as an artist, and you always get better with your craft, but I dont think you ever really learn how to write a good song."
Refusing to be labeled under anyones terms, the patient has instead chosen to create his own musical reality, centered on his love of guitar. In addition Joe suffers from an identity crisis within that world. "I cant say I consider myself a guitar player so much as a musician. Guitar is my main instrument and I dont know where Id be if I didnt have one but its just a vehicle. And Im probably the only guitar player doing guitar instrumentals that hates playing guitar solos. To me, its more important for a song to have a strong structure, a great melody line, a solid rhythm and really tight tracks. Solos are like the sprinkles you put on top."
Slightly delusional, Joe seems to be taking cues from his alternate consciousness, which appears to be the catalyst for his sound. "When I write, I hear the whole song in my head. If I can hum it more than once on more than one day, I know its a keeper. Ill run through it in my head over and over so when I sit down to write it, Ill know exactly what its going to sound like."
Comments:
Patient poses no harm to the general public but may intimidate guitar players, musicians, songwriters and others in the music industry. Definitely suffering from a Mozart complex, it is recommended that patient be allowed to continue his independent musical path. As Joboj stated, "I dont want to sound like anybody else."
Product Description
Joboj (a.k.a. Joe Bochar) is sick in the head. His latest Nyquil induced album is like a bipolar patient short on meds. Frantic, finger-twisting solos punctuate the furiously fast songs with intent, while melodic refrains toss and turn on a bed of phat beats. Prepare for an aural assault: This is Joboj. This is X.
Masterminded by a guy who knows more about do-it-yourself than The Home Depot, Joboj writes, records and plays it all in his home studio. A conceptual departure from his previous three CDs, "X" obliterates the rules resulting in an experience that is definitely not your typical guitar CD. Ranging from hardcore ("Chest Compression v.6", "X") to trip hop/electronica ("Zero", "Tryptophen Junkie") to acoustic ("Blackthumb", "Bitch") to just plain crazy guitar ("Stool", "Screaming Chicken"), this disc caters to a diverse palate of styles, while maintaining an overall sound that is distinctly Joe.
As the most insane guitarist you think youve never heard, Joboj has covertly been creeping into the mainstream via play on such television shows as VH-1s Bands On The Run, and MTVs The Real World, Road Rules, and Undressed. His work can also be heard on demos for Cakewalks Guitar Tracks Pro, Sonar, and Fernandes Guitars. In December 2002, Morley Pedals will launch an advertising campaign featuring the JOBOJ "jam tracks" disc entitled "Chocolate".
Unlike anything on the market, "X" is the ultimate anti-boy band, anti-pop, anti-establishment in your face album that refuses to be ignored. "X" is no longer marks the spot, it IS the spot.
X,Joboj,Quad,Heavy Metal,Slipknot meets Joe Satriani... definitely not your uncle's guitar cd.
