Pin the Tail on the Honkey [Explicit Lyrics]

Dislocated Styles are a six-piece from Arizona who, on Pin the Tail on the Honkey, take the crunchy guitars of nu metal and stuff them full of deep 1970s funk, B-boy rapping, jazz piano, old-time rock, and some hilarious scratching. Not for them the big-shorts and angst favored by their contemporaries; they prefer a much more fluid, soulful sound as typified by the deep piano and close mic rapping of "Unified." In fact, Dislocated Styles are so keen not to be lumped in with the current crop of wannabe rap-metal heroes that they take a swipe at Limp Bizkit on "Revolution" and sample James Brown on "Liquefied." Throughout Pin the Tail on the Honkey, pop sensibilities can't help but surface, with both "Possessed by Demons" and "Clocks" sounding like Top 10 hits already, yet when they turn it up and rock out as they do on "Reckoning," they have all the force of a 10-ton hammer. --William Luff
