The CD reissue of Gub and its Spoonbreakfast remix EP shows why Pigface's entrance into the world of industrial was so heralded. Brainchild Martin Atkins enlists friends like Trent Reznor, Skinny Puppy growler Ogre, KMFDM's En Esch, the Jesus Lizard's David Yow and others for a twisted jam session, giving them sanctuary from commercial restraints on his own label, Invisible. This sometimes results in useless cacophony (Atkins, a drummer, spends most of his time with Ministry's Bill Rieflin, another drummer), but at its best Gub spews out classics like the Trent Reznor-sung "Suck," which he later covered on Nine Inch Nails' EP Broken. --Liisa Ladouceur
