When the Spanic Boys burst out of Milwaukee in 1990, they attracted attention as much for the novelty value of a band led by a father (Tom Spanic) and a son (Ian Spanic) as for their energetic, catchy rockabilly. The novelty soon wore off, and desultory live shows plus an underwhelming third album dampened the initial enthusiasm sparked by the band. The fourth album, Dream Your Life Away, should reignite that spark, for it contains the Spanic Boys' best songwriting yet and lucid production (by Ian Spanic and Mike Hoffman), which shifts the emphasis from bar-band guitar cranking to pop harmonies. --Geoffrey Himes
