Check out the latest by the Streetwalkin' Cheetahs, an L.A. quartet that, as the Iggy reference in the name implies, is seriously enamored of Motor City proto-punk a la the Stooges and the MC5. Just check out the opening track, "Freak Out Man." You can almost smell the oil burning. The closing cover of the Dictator's "Faster & Louder" pretty much sums up the band's aesthetic; it's nothing you haven't heard before, but it's done well, and as the Sex Pistols would say, they mean it, ma-a-an. --Jim Derogatis
