Forgotten Tales

Editorial Reviews
Product Description
"Doudou Gouirand started seriously in jazz music when Don Cherry ( the great US trumpet player and composer) gave him the opportunity to study and work with him . At his contact , he developed his interest for and knowledge of Indian and African music and world music in general and go further in the universe of improvised music through Cherry's interest for Ornette Coleman . By the end of the seventies , Doudou returned to France , working for a period of time with the famous Okay Temiz's Oriental Wind . He then started to compose and to record regularly . After three albums featuring several members of Chris Mc Gregor's Brotherhood of Breath ( mainly bass player Johnny Dyani and Chris Mc Gregor himself) , he recorded in 1986 the majestic ""Forgotten Tales"" featuring his old friend Don Cherry who has been one of the first to recognize his originality and sensibility. The long suite ""World music suite"" (Don Cherry's composition) gather Don's main musical traditions : gospel on the Coltrane's ""Welcome"" inspired introduction , orient with the accordeon of A Salis , South America with the voice of Gouirand , Middle East with the trumpet of Cherry , all of this punctuated with the sensibility and lyrics of Gouirand on soprano and G Pansanel and P Dorge's magnificent guitars. The rest of the album , is exceptional : intensity and mystery on ""Forgotten tales suite"" , fragile melodies on ""Saga"", romance on "" Shade of blue"" , Latin feelings on "" El Golea""."
