…it’s about what we do. We set in and move…

crushcoat started as Nathaniel Breed singing and Michael Neugent on guitar. We did our first show at The Rendezvous in May 1998. Just Nathaniel and Michael on a stage. Alone, in duo.

More was needed.

Shortly thereafter came our friend and drummist bravado Mike Hommel. Then came Darwin to fill the pocket. Nathaniel and Hommel had played both separately and together in various superb Seattle offerings like (The) Nathaniel Breed (band), Spilt Milk, Frances Nash and The Blue Knights (respectively), being longtime musicians and wot not. Darwin had been a treasured and honored member of Bone Daddy, in Ellensburg. Few in Ellensburg can stake such mighty claims. A statue was erected in his honor; it has since fallen over. The past few years have been a hectic climb for crushcoat to see out of the hole we all start in in this love-filled business of show (showbiz). As for the future, well it’s like the triumphant and wise-filled Fred Durst once said in interview (OK, like he sorta said) “we have not yet made our masterpiece”. No shite Fred, neither have we. We’re excited. We are after ourselves daily; the music is the chase. The music we make sets you in a mood and holds you there. We feel the need for people to have deep happy dark brooding screaming weeping souls. All at once.

We could list obvious influences on our sound but we won’t. The music crushcoat makes is the influence now.

In a time that seems flooded by fractured pieces of music scenes we intend on being something bigger than just a band. crushcoat makes music. Rock and roll.

Sometimes loud, sometimes light, always for the fellaheen.
