Welcome to Smokey Pete’s Café. A collaboration between singer-songwriter Russ Peterson, lyricist Allycen Quan, and producer Doug McKeehan, Smokey Pete’s is a place where the mind goes to unwind, exploring the dark dynamic of relationship in transition. Frustration and anger are exposed and exorcised here in a musical journey that explores the landscape of the mind through the vehicle of intense, passionate rock. That Smokey, a professional fire fighter living in the foothills of the Sierra, could come together with Allycen, a student of physics and theology living in Denver, and Doug, a producer with roots in world music, is a story unto itself. The fruits of this collaboration are evidenced here in this CD. Smokey Pete’s Café, a place that’s sometimes dark, sometimes angry, always passionate. Come in and relax at Smokey Pete’s, but be forewarned, things are not always as they seem.

SMOKEY PETE’S CAFE - Open For Business is comprised of intense passionate rock that has been carefully crafted to highlight the lyrical content of each song. The use of guitars, bass, and drums, alongside keyboards, strings, and complex vocal harmonies, provides a strong and dramatic backdrop for lyrical content that is not afraid to touch on sensitive subjects. This album reflects the music of Russell Peterson and Allycen Quan who have been writing together for the past three years. Because the music was written around the lyrics, the musical content does not follow standard forms. This has created music with a unique flavor and truly allows the lyrical content to shine through. The only exceptions to that are track 2, written by Russell Peterson and Doug McKeehan and a cover of Mandy written by Scott English and Richard Kerr. The album was recorded at Gypsy Ram Studios in Mill Valley CA, mixed at Niagara Falls Studios, Fremont CA, by Bruce Kaphan, tracks 3 and! 7 were mixed at Pyramind Studios, San Francisco CA, by Alex Studer, and was mastered at Paul Stubblebine Mastering, San Francisco CA, by Michael Romanowski.
