About the Artist
For those who didn't know, Francis Dunnery was the leader of It Bites, the Cumbrian band who successfully managed to fuse pop and progressive rock and in 1986 had a top ten single with Calling All The Heroes. They established a reputation as an excellent live band and toured with Level 42, Go West, Marillion, Jethro Tull and Robert Plant.

His guitar style, influenced by Allan Holdsworth, came to dominate the band's sound, he became respected as one of the most talented guitarists around.

After three albums Francis quit the band and, after a brief stint in Robert Plant's band , embarked on a solo career which saw him abandon the flashy guitar style of It Bites for the highly melodic songs, starkly emotional lyrics and heartfelt vocals which have seen him compared to Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel and Squeeze.

Francis Dunnery's fourth studio solo album was originally released on the New York based Razor & Tie label in 1998 and demonstrates his seemingly endless ability to come up with great tunes.

His immense songwriting versatility is in evidence and this was his most diverse album to date, from the fast and raucous Sunflowers to the jazzy Steely Dan-like Riding On The Back with the Tower Of Power horns to the ethereal acoustic guitar ballad Jonah.

Elsewhere there is the funked-up Crazy Little Heart Of Mine and the use of mellotron gives a retro prog-touch to My Own Reality.

Francis was by this time playing most of the instruments himself guitar, bass and keyboards, but he is also aided by Doug Petty on keyboards and accordion and vocalist Erin Moran. Although Francis didn't tour in the UK for another two years after this album was released, he still playS to sold-out venues.
