Once you get past the gratuitous static, blips, and noisy effects that litter the beginning of each of five songs on this EP, one finds there's a sharp genius at work here. On his first outing as a solo artist, Nebraska singer-songwriter Denver Dalley has constructed a messy collage of post-grunge ennui and anxious rumination about the nature of matter that rivals some of Billy Corgan's more baroque excursions into the center of the mind. Moody, gorgeous melodies collide with insinuating guitars, creating a fission where the real magic occurs. This fretful suite of songs is any indicates that room near the top should be reserved for Statistics. --Jaan Uhelszki
