Ponzi Scheme (Metal Box) [Limited Edition]

Firewater is the brainchild of bassist/composer Tod A. (Tod Ashley), once the frontman for New York City's notorious sludgeband Cop Shoot Cop.... [Ashley] borrowed its members from Motherhead Bug (Dave Quimet on keyboards), the Jesus Lizard (Duane Denison on guitar), and Soul Coughing (Yuval Gabay on drums).... [The band leads] a traditional yet unothodox rock combo that includes the occasional violin and clarinet ... it's terrifically entertaining and refreshingly genuine.... The best songs are those that feature Ashley's smart-ass yet heartfelt lyrics.... These 12 tracks have a tone of strangely cheerful hostility, as if Ashley has discovered that fold music, not noise, is the best way to liberate his demons.
