The Boston Globe 2/23/04
Julian Coryell delivered a charismatic, shape-shifting performance, wending through a repertoire of eccentric pop, poison-pen ballads, and blue-eyed soul.
Product Description
Despite his roots, (the son of jazz great Larry Coryell) Julian Coryell is more aptly cut from the same cloth as Robbie Williams, Jeff Buckley, and Todd Rundgren. Julians new CD, Rock Star, is an homage to the pop music of the 60s and 70s. Rock Star proudly wears its eclectic influences on its ambitious sleeves. The title track whimsically evokes the spirit of early Queen; Living in L.A. gives a nod and a wink to the Beach Boys; "You are Not Glass" is something Simon and Garfunkel might have written if they were Gen-Xers; and Ram era Paul McCartney inspired "Day Off."
