Carson sings in a super-high range that gives the effect of a young girl on helium, but while her touch is lighter than air, her concerns often sink to levels of unflattering humanity. "Whole Heart" candidly discusses sexual and physical abuse, while "Black Thumb" expresses an incredible amount of self-doubt. "Train" follows the harrowing end of a mind left to think too much. All of which would be just psychobabble for the shrink's couch if it weren't for the exquisite melodies and perfectly complimentary arrangements that never overpower Carson's fragile voice. A cover of Todd Rundgren's "I Saw The Light" is the album's "breather." --Rob O'Connor
