You'd have to be a pretty sour sort not to get the least bit sentimental over the Thompson Twins' techno-pop ballad "Hold Me Now." Between its engaging melody and Tom Bailey's earnest vocals, it is a heart-string tugger of the highest order. Into the Gap doesn't repeat its endearing emotion anywhere else, but the rest of the tracks have plenty of charm. "You Take Me Up" is a precious piece of new-wave rhythmics. Even the less exuberant "Doctor! Doctor!" and "Sister of Mercy" have a hip-shaking quality. Although they never cashed in the way the hits did, "Storm on the Sea" and "No Peace for the Wicked" are both worthy of more than honorable mention. --Steve Gdula
