Editorial Reviews
From URB Magazine
With his labels name, Teknotika, referencing the 50s exotica sound of Martin Denny and the likes, you shouldnt be surprised to find plenty of faux-Latin and Asian sounds on Gary Martins debut album. You might, however, be surprised by how well they work. Martin decorates his clean Detroit-techno style with plastic palm trees and bamboo shoots, yet tracks like "Castanzos Garden" and "Happy Village" are clear of any "ethno" pretension.Martin also continues to deliver sturdy dance-floor cuts that become the favorites of DJs like Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier. "Subterranean Substance" is a pumping tribal selection that should come out of the crate when its time for the energy to go up a notch. Forget your Goa trance or Balearic chill compilations; Gary Martin has the true underground shit for your next full-moon beach party.
