About the Artist
Allen and Brody used a unique blend of music and art to promote their creative niche. Allen, having graduated with a BA in art, pursued a career in design and development. Brody graduated with a BFA in visual arts and acquired a job as the Technical Director of a performing arts high school in Ft. Lauderdales inner city, designing and building sets for the schools plays. The two used their background to promote and enhance their allure as visual artists first, then as musicians. Live streaming images, robust sets, and theater illusions were trademarks at FIVESIXSIXFIVE's early shows. . Ft. Lauderdale alternative/indie rock fans scene quickly caught on, and FIVESIXSIXFIVE has responded with a groundbreaking self titled debut album.
Utilizing his privileges as Technical Director, Brody beckoned his delinquent tendencies to gain the band access to his high schools performing arts building, enabling them full use of otherwise unattainable orchestra equipment. Their sound is an amalgamation of digital sequences and live accompaniments. A medley of everything from antiquated sequencers, live drumming, marimbas, vibraphones, glockenspiels, Tam Tams, tympanis, to Brodys apocalyptic voice and Allens angelic guitar rifts, FIVESIXSIXFIVE, has managed to pull off an experimental, yet mesmerizing, hypnotic first release. Inspired by a wide range of bands, from Tortoise, The Flaming Lips, Duran Duran, Modest Mouse, to A Tribe Called Quest, Led Zeppelin, and N.W.A. (Rest in Peace Eazy!), FIVESIXSIXFIVE's sound is innovative and rangy. Having recorded, mixed, and produced their self-titled first release all on their own; this is truly an independent release, from start to finish. Brody and Allen even handle the bands guerilla marketing efforts, from silk screening t-shirts in their backyard, to producing and packaging the bands cd singles, they were involved in the entire process. Says Brody, "Buying our cd is like a grant. It allows us to keep creating." Aint no bling blinging there. And you can tell by the forcefulness with which theyve arrived on the scene, youll be hearing more from FIVESIXSIXFIVE.
