About the Artist
The music of Paul Fly, aka pfly, draws from many styles, from the groove-based textures of techno, ambient, and electronica, to the through-composed logic of classical counterpoint; from the organic looseness of jazz improvisation to the precise rigor of algorithmic machine-music; from the serene meditativeness of space-music to the grating edge of noise-music.
Product Description
"Duckapus" is a sonic garden, evolved and grown. The music is at times a complex tangle, many-layered and continually changing. It evokes many different moods and places; it is diverse -- full of outskirts, fringes and moments of chaos. Strict algorithmic machine logic is used in surpringly organic ways. The album evolves through strange mutations into unexpected yet familiar places in a dreamlike manner. Like a garden or a plant or a flower, geometry and logic are married to chance and chaos in a state of persistent disequilibrium. Errors are not rejected but honored and allowed to thrive and grow into combinations and sequences that are simultaneously simple and complex. In the end, the music of "Duckapus" is a long journey through a mosaic of unusual places, from the steamy jungles of "Vong", to the mesmerizing cascades of "Algorithm Cirkus", to the feverish nightmares of "Streaming Escape" -- sometimes sinking into ghostly unsettling darkness, sometimes flying! like a jet through a clear stratosphere, sometimes burning in ecstatic fire.
