About the Artist
Although beginning as a jazz saxophonist, studying with George Russell touring with legendary bluesman Albert King, he has preferred to remain underground rather than submit to the retro jazz movement that has plagued the U.S. for the past 15 years. He has instead focused on new directions in electronic music, forming Biomechanique in 1998 with U.K. DJ Luke Collins. They had a residency that year at Gabor Csupo's short-lived but brilliant performamce space Lumpy Gravy as well as playing the well known L.A. clubs Spaceland and Luna Park. Subversive Element is his first solo effort, trying to absorb dub, drum & hip hop into his own electric jazz in the same way that Miles Davis absorbed that of Henrix and Sly Stone in the early '70s.
