Book Description
The PowerScore LSAT Logic Games Bible is the most comprehensive book available for the Logic Games section of the LSAT. The intent of this book is to provide you with an advanced system for attacking any game you encounter on the LSAT. This same system is covered in the live classes taught by PowerScore, and all of the methods and techniques discussed in the book have been tested in classroom situations over many years.
The book features and explains a detailed methodology for attacking the games section. All aspects of Logic Games are covered, from recognizing game types to diagramming rules to making inferences and answering questions. Entire chapters are devoted to the most advanced game techniques and to time management strategies.
Logic Games are divided into individual types, and a discussion follows that teaches you how to approach each type of Game, and drills are presented to help you apply and understand the techniques. Thereafter, real LSAT logic games are used to illustrate how the techniques apply to real tests. Using real LSAT questions is a must for high-level LSAT preparation, and twenty-one real LSAT logic games are contained in the book. Each logic game is accompanied by a detailed analysis of the game setup and related questions.
The author has over 12 years experience teaching the LSAT and has scored in the 99th percentile on a Law Services-administered test. An expert in LSAT preparation, he has overseen the preparation of thousands of students and founded two national LSAT preparation companies.
The Logic Games Bible can be supplemented by The Ultimate Set-Ups Guide, which features setups for every game in each released LSAT from 1995 to 2002. Also, both books provide access to a unique website for additional LSAT and Logic Games information, and has answers to frequently asked questions.

The perfect guide for the time-constrained..........2007-06-13
I haven't taken the LSAT yet. So I won't know for sure if it is as good as I think it is until September 29, 2007. Having said that, I can't imagine something else for someone short on time. I started preparing for LSAT about two month ago. Took a few practice tests and found that I never finished the logic games section in time. Went over Kaplan, Arco and another guide book (for the logic games section only) and got the feeling that they are helpful for 150+ students trying to get to 160+ but don't help me much. I was getting 165+ with 17-18 logic games questions done in the given time. All of my answers for the questions I did do were correct, as would be anyone's who is given more time. Clearly, I wasn't setting games up efficiently enough to finish each in 8:45 mins. I am not the sort of person who marks unattempted questions and goes back to them at the end of the test. I needed efficient set up that would enable me to get a game done in 8:45 mins without having to ever go back. I got that from this book.
I found out that every logic games question in any released LSAT can be categorized into game types described by this book and attempted with the set up they advocate. It's a sort of mechanical process for me. These additional 5-6 points from the logic games section has raised my prep test average score to 171+.
I also want to praise the fact that unlike Kaplan, etc., this book is extremely to-the-point. I read it and got the ideas in it in a week. For someone like me who works full-time 5 days a week and has other social engagements on weekends, this is important.
My only complaint (hence no 5-star rating) is that it doesn't have a greater number of practice problems. Oh well, that's what the prep tests are for.
The absolute best!.......2007-05-18
No agendas. No padded marketing. Just a great book about LSAT logic. Buy any from Powerscore and you will improve your score. This book is structured in a way that teaches LSAT logic better than the others. It's patterned to educate you in this exam.
If you have trouble with the LSAT, take the time to read this. The practice tests and re read as necessary. Then just practice tests!
This Book Got My Kid Into Law School.......2007-05-09
The title of my review says it all. He was struggling with the logic portion of the LSAT and after using this book and taking Kaplan Training (I can't say enough good things about them) he scored high enough to get a scholarship to a top tier law school.
Good Job, Counselor!
The BEST in the industry.......2007-05-02
There are a lot of LSAT prep books out there -- Powerscore is the best by far. Its logic-based approach gives you a solid foundation, allowing you to apply its principles flexibly as you confront the myriad different game types. Just as importantly, this book uses real LSAT questions from previous LSAT tests. I used Princeton Review and Master the LSAT and found them both lacking, especially because the questions they fabricated never quite seemed matched up to the real test questions. I'm sure Powerscore pays a lot for the rights to the questions, but its worth it for their students. Pay the money, get the real stuff, get good training, do well on the exam.
Fantastic.......2007-04-18
I was hesitant to purchase this book, considering its high price. However, I can say without a doubt that it is the most useful LSAT prep book I've come across. The Kaplan books don't even hold a candle to how helpful this one was.
This is ONLY for the Logic Games section of the test. The book outlines each game you are likely to see on the test, gives you diagramming strategies and tips for reusing information gleaned from previous questions. It's both sped up my response rate, and improved by "correct answers" in just the couple of weeks I've been studying from it.
All in all, a VERY worthwhile purchase!

Great Study Guide.......2007-06-25
This book is not a casual read. You can not skim through it and expect to see great results. If, however, you are seriously studying for the LSAT and are prepared to devote some time to this book you will find it extremely helpful.
I found the insight into the way the questions are developed especially useful. Now that I am able to better understand how the questions are being developed I am better able to discern the correct answers and even spot common incorrect ones very quickly.
This is a great book and I found it the single most helpful item in my preparation for the LSAT. I was able to raise my practice scores from the low 160's to the middle to upper 160's- I find that to be a significant increase. I'm pleased with the results.
Excellent comprehensive explanations........2007-04-05
This book covers every type of LR question featured on the LSAT and goes over them in great detail. Though I feel lots of LR is just intuitive, I did learn quite a few helpful tips and tricks from this book.
The downside is that the proportion of the book that is actually practice questions is small, almost disappointingly so.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. The thoroughness of its instruction is unmatchable.
An awesome book!.......2007-04-01
I've got to tell you, I'm both lazy and cheap, so I could've easily been imperiled when it came to the LSAT. However, thanks largely in part to this book, I managed a 155, and my grand total of expenses in preparation for the LSAT was about $95. Just buy this and the next 10 actual test booklet and you're halfway there. If you are either A- not as brilliant as I (hahah) or B- very worried, you'll want to also pay for a kaplan or whoever actual prep course.
I never even made it all the way through this book, maybe 2/3rds, but I smashed this section on the test. In my pre-testing I was getting 20 of 25 right with 3-5 minutes to spare, just like on the real test. Note- I did not study for and BOMBED the logic games, grrrrr.
LSAT Logical Reasoning Bible.......2007-03-09
Category and sub category the important outlines from the subject that makes readers have the methodology to follow to conquer the exam.
The best LR book ever.......2007-01-04
Really the best LR test prep around. While it does not have as many practice problems as, say, a Kaplan book, it actually does teach you to think like the testmakers. It has extremely clear, detailed reasoning. If you use it, start it asap (ie, not a week before the LSAT). The lessons do take some practice before you can use the skills efficiently and decrease your time per question. Happily, this book does not do the whole wink-wink-aren't-we-all-on-the-same-boat tone. It's more expensive, but I think that is because they pay copyright for actual LSAT LR questions.

Book Description
Professors Fischl and Paul explain law school exams in ways no one has before, all with an eye toward improving the reader's performance. The book begins by describing the difference between educational cultures that praise students for "right answers," and the law school culture that rewards nuanced analysis of ambiguous situations in which more than one approach may be correct. Enormous care is devoted to explaining precisely how and why legal analysis frequently produces such perplexing situations.
But the authors don't stop with mere description. Instead, Getting to Maybe teaches how to excel on law school exams by showing the reader how legal analysis can be brought to bear on examination problems. The book contains hints on studying and preparation that go well beyond conventional advice. The authors also illustrate how to argue both sides of a legal issue without appearing wishy-washy or indecisive. Above all, the book explains why exam questions may generate feelings of uncertainty or doubt about correct legal outcomes and how the student can turn these feelings to his or her advantage.
In sum, although the authors believe that no exam guide can substitute for a firm grasp of substantive material, readers who devote the necessary time to learning the law will find this book an invaluable guide to translating learning into better exam performance.
Customer Reviews:
When's the best time to read?.......2007-05-20
This was a good book, but I kept trying to figure out exactly when it should be read.
I'm starting law school in the fall, so I'm trying to do what prep I can over the summer. Much of this book was understandable for someone who hasn't actually started law school, but there were some concepts that are based on information that you learn in your 1L year. Since this book has tips for preparing for exams ahead of time, it wouldn't make sense to read during the semester (and who would have time, anyway?). In a revision, I would suggest that the authors tune the content slightly to be absorbed more easily by someone who has not started law school yet.
An essential tool for law students.......2007-03-20
I am a law professor at the oldest night law school in San Francisco who has struggled for years to communicate to my stdents how to prepare for exams. I wish someone had told me about this book years ago. It explains cogently and distinctly why law school exams are different than those exams you did so well on in college (or you wouldn't be in law school) and why you need to start thinking differently. The book goes through the different types of questions one mught find on an exam and shows how to address them. It also provides numerous tips on how to study and how to approach exam writing. The book also does a great job of explaining a theme I have pushed for years --- that exam-writing skills are really the writing and thinking skills students will need when they become lawyers. It should be required reading in law schools. And it wouldn't hurt law professors to read the book either.
GREAT information, but dense.......2007-03-09
This is not a book for fast help. It is a great book to use before you anywhere near a time crunch!!!
Not worth it.......2007-01-10
This is full of common sense info. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy this book.
A Book Worth Your Time.......2007-01-04
I started my first year at law school with the impression--the conviction!--that someone was going to take time out of his/her lecture schedule to teach us how to write law school exams. This, of course, never happened and, after bungling through a practice midterm with a slipshod IRAC, I decided to seek some advice. My law school's academic preparation (resuscitation?) program recommended this book, and I picked it up from Amazon several weeks prior to finals.
I've generally considered test-taking "manuals" to be overly simplistic and far too general to be effective. But this book is different. It doesn't prescribe worthless "strategies" for stock scenarios (like those dreadful LSAT books), but instead attempts to get you to rethink your approach to the exam--from preparation to execution. What impressed me the most about _Getting to Maybe_ is that it makes a point not to provide pat answers, or to patch up poor preparation. Rather, it suggests new ways to think about the law, and about the scenarios that appear on law school exams.
One caveat is that, to get anything out of this book, you need to pick it up well before finals: this book tries to get you to approach law school differently, and this is something that can't be done a day before the exam. This book is worth your time--not only is the prose far more lively and entertaining than, say, that of International Shoe, but you really come away from _Getting to Maybe_ feeling like the effort was worthwhile.

Good Value.......2007-06-14
The book has good explanations of the correct answers, and is not very expensive. Good value for the money.
not super, but quite adequate.......2007-05-13
...for reviewing mistakes. the explanations of the correct answers are not written in the most accessible english, but i've found them good enough for explaining the inevitable (for me) bonehead mistakes. my prep work, with a month to go, has consisted of the two powerscore bibles (very good), plenty of official prep tests, and this superprep. since there are only three tests in here, plus a small "how to" section, i took one when i started studying to gauge my weak spots; a second one when i felt my brain was swimming in too much powerscore bible tactical info; and the third is waiting for a week before the test.
all in all, worth the money, but supplement with the 10-test books.
Good Practice.......2007-05-07
This book is good practice especially for the money. The explinations are a little lacking but overall it is a pretty good book.
Good practice.......2007-02-21
You should study some basic strategies from another book before you start doing the practice in this one. Although some explainations are not that clear, it's still a great book.
Best LSAT prep when you have no time to prep .......2007-01-14
I didn't have time to study for the LSAT and ONE week before the LSAT I worked with this book and my score went from 145 to 153! (153 is not so bad considering that my language is spanish and I didn't prep at all). I'm assuming that for an english native speaker this could mean you can score a 163-165 without having to study for 3 months.
The book explains every type of question you're going to find on the LSAT and it contains 3 February tests so you can practice. Each prep test has the answers and every choice fully explained.
So if you don't have time to prep this is the best book you can work with.
Good Luck!

Customer Reviews:
Good but not good enough.......2007-06-20
The Good: contains great strategy for approaching the logical reasoning, and Reading comprehension sections as well as some good food for thought on writing your essay.
The Bad: The logical analysis section of the actual LSAT is much more difficult than the logical analysis section of any of the Kaplan sample problems or sample tests. I took the LSAT a week ago and ended up cancelling my score because I was unable to answer a third of the questions in that section in the time alloted even though I did well on the practice tests in this book. Do not take the advice given here about scanning all the problems in the section before starting. This is a complete waste of precious time. Practice as much as possible and when you're taking the test, start working immediately!
Overall, great prep for most of the LSAT, I'm going to seek out another book or two to help me with the logical analysis section, as well as ordering the next 10 LSATs from lsac for practice.
Great Prep Tool.......2007-05-14
I love this prep book. It gives great strategy tips and has great practice tests. I'm taking the LSAT in June so I won't know how well this has prepped me until July but I think it is worth the buy. the CD is great and you have access to online content only from Kaplan. they even have a free practice test that you sign up for online where you go to their local kaplan center and sit for a practice exam that is scored. That is awesome.
Kaplan LSAT Study Book.......2007-01-05
The Kaplan LSAT study guide is comprehensive. It is a great tool from the start of your LSAT journey even up to giving tips about how to apply to law school afterwards. I would recommend using it in addition to the Logic Games Bible, which breaks down the process, but the Kaplan book is a good investment. There are plenty of practice problems in the Kplan and explainations which is key.
Not Mac Friendly.......2006-09-08
While I find the contents of the book sufficient, I am peeved that no mention was made of the CD being Windows only. I specifically purchased this book over some other choices, because I thought the CD would be a valuable supplement. If you don't have access to Windows or were planning to study on a Macintosh or Unix box, then save the additional cost and do not buy this book as it is available for less without the CD.
Updated 9/29/06: Tomorrow is the big test. Between this book, Cracking the LSAT by the Princeton Review and LSAC's published tests, I'm about as prepared as I can be. I found the information in this book useful, although they give themselves too much credit by claiming some tips as "Kaplan Exclusives" when they aren't, in fact, exclusive.
I borrowed a Windows computer to use the disk and found the tests quite helpful in that they timed me and kept track of my strengths and weaknesses, which I think is very beneficial. A neat feature is that one can cross out answers that aren't correct when doing process of elimination, just like one can on paper tests.
One thing, though, is that last night while taking a test, the application crashed right after I finished and did not save my answers. Ugh!
I'm not sure which I liked better, Kaplan or Princeton Review, as they're both good and I don't think you could go wrong with either. Or, like me, you could buy both if you have enough time before the test.
Oh yeah, good luck and see ya in court!
Good Strategy book.......2006-08-12
This book does a great job of presenting sound strategies for tackling the different kinds of LSAT questions. If you're disciplined, you can probably prep on your own with this book instead of paying for the entire Kaplan course.
Moreover, Kaplan's last version of this book was heavily criticized for not using real LSAT questions. Kaplan answered those criticisms by including 3 real LSATs in this version (PrepTest 7: February 1993, PrepTest 13: December 1994, and PrepTest 8). More importantly, Kaplan provides detailed explanations of all the answers in the three tests. However be aware that two of the real LSATs in this book (PreTest 7 and 13) can also be found in LSAC's 10 Actual, Official LSATs book. (Pretest 8 is not found in any other test book bundle).
This book does have the usual typos that plague most test prep books, but the typos are infrequent and inconsequential in my opinion. Overall, this book is a very useful addition to anyone's LSAT study materials.

CLA Review Manual: A Practical Guide to CLA Exam Preparation.......2007-05-22
Good and comprehensive. I have no problem with the substantive value, however, the finish of the pages was raged and not trimmed properly. One part was extended way beyond the cover. Is this because Amazon gives a discount? Not something I appreciate in a book I will keep in my library for life. The prior issue was a better-quality product.
A great review manual and reference book.......2000-06-07
This book was my primary source when I was preparing for the CLA exam. Coherent, organized and thoughtful, it is a "must buy" for CLA candidates. Until my book was borrowed (and not returned) by another legal assistant, the manual served as a handy reference manual in my practice.

No surprises.......2007-06-20
I did not much enjoy the time I spent with this book, but it's exactly what it claims to be. In the end, I decided to take a low-end test prep course instead of studying on my own, and I didn't need the book anymore.
Official Preptests...the way to go.......2007-03-08
Without taking these official tests, my score would have been much lower. Practice, practice, practice. By the time I'd reached the last few tests in this book, my score on each test in the book was the exact same as what I ended up with for my actual LSAT score.
LSAT Preptests.......2007-01-05
Ten practice tests provided variety for scheduling intellectual infrastructure sessions for students preparing for the LSAT. Format of the texts and availability of answer keys made for ease of switching from section to section as students honed academic skills.
Simple and effective.......2007-01-03
If you want to review for the LSAT the best way is to use actual tests that have been previously administered. I raised my score 14 points from the very first test I took to the actual test! I took 25 of these tests and used a couple of other books. It can be done!!
Still necessary for practice!.......2006-12-14
The tests released after this book (tests 39-52), have a format where the analytical reasoning games have become much easier, but the reading comprehension section has become more difficult. Depending on your strengths and weaknesses, these tests may not accurately reflect what your final score is going to be. Starting with the June '07 LSAT (test 53), they are again changing the test--the reading comp section is going to have a compare and contrast section (see the LSAC website for more info). Regardless, the best preparation is to take EVERY test that has been published, and to review every question to see what makes certain questions correct, and what makes them incorrect. Only taking the tests won't get you as high of a score increase. Expect to spend 6 months to a year studying, especially if you are in school or working. You need all the practice you can get.

Bar exam prep.......2007-06-08
Very good resource--excellent tips on the nuances of how the bar examiners are trying to trick you. Before PMBR and BarBri, this was the only book many people used to study. I would highly recommend it
Comprehensive for Multistate review.......2007-02-21
I have yet to take the MBE, but my initial take on this book is very positive. Although I think it could do a better job of giving a more detailed summary of each of the sections of the test, it does have roughly 50 multiple choice for each section, and each answer (right or wrong) does spell out the black letter law. It also has a full 200-question MBE at the end of the book. To supplement PMBR/Barbri (or even supplant one of them), this may be the best option. For the price, I believe it's money well spent (and what's another forty on top of a hundred thousand anyway?).
Great way to jump start your MBE study.......2006-07-03
This book provides a strategic way to take MBE questions with an intro of what topics are tested within each subject and then an exam tactics section of what to look for in the questions. Then there are detailed answers for each question so you can look to see why the wrong answers are not correct. I would recommend this to anyone preparing for the Bar Exam, my bar study professor recommended to begin using this book our last semester of school before we actually began heavily studying for the exam, it was good advice!

Customer Reviews:
If you need practice, practice, practice..........2007-06-20
It wasn't so much that I needed a system for understanding and completing logic games, but just a book that would provide me with some decent material to apply techniques that I had already learned. This book has 14 of its own practice tests (and a lengthy explanation for why answer choices are right/wrong directly following each test). The questions composed by the authors of this book are very comparable to actual LSAT questions. After doing those tests, there are three additional logic games sections (each with four games) taken directly from recently administered LSATs.
I haven't seen another book with as many practice tests. I recommend this book highly--whether or not you have already purchased a book , even if you have already learned a system for completing logic games. Good luck!
Awesome! The best book for LSAT Games!.......2007-05-09
First of all, I wanted to point out that the book is more than 500 pages. When I first picked it up, I thought it must have weighed more than 10 pounds! The book has more than 80 games in it (not 80 questions), so that's like... well, let's say around 450 questions. I think this book is the ultimate for LSAT Games. Kaplan's Logic Games Workbook only has about 200 questions (half as many games) and the PowerScore Bible is only 200 pages (half as many pages). This book is unlike anything I've ever seen. It let's use do the problems on your own and correct your answers using a "tutor sheet." You actually see how a tutor worked out the page, where they drew their diagrams in the small space, etc. Sorry, Kaplan, but this book is a lot better.
Helpful quantity, but glitches in quality........2007-04-05
If you're looking for a book that will offer you tons and tons of logic games to practice, this is the one you want, hands down.
If you're just starting out with your LSAT studying and are looking more for instruction about how to effectively tackle the games, I wouldn't recommend it. The diagrams and explanations are not very easy to understand, nor are they the most thorough or comprehensive. What's worse, I found a few typos here and there in them that sometimes dramatically changed the rightness or wrongness of answers.
It's an excellent book on the basis of its massive and diverse collection of games. It just seems written somewhat hastily and carelessly -- not the best idea for the beginning LSAT studier. If you're looking for better teaching, try Powerscore's "Logic Games Bible."
Perfect score.......2007-02-16
This book did it for me. I was plateauing at 70%-75% correct after doing a Kaplan book for all three sections. After doing just the first half this book, I was getting 95% or betteron the games. By the time I finished the book, I was getting them all right, and finishing with 3 or 4 minutes left over. I just took the Feb LSAT and the games were a total snap. I am still waiting for my score, but I am positive I did not miss one game question. I really liked that the book had the 3 most recent tests. Beacuse I got to practice with the most up to date games, this really made me comfortable that there wouldn't be any unpleasant surprises on test day. I definitely recommend you get this book if you are serious about succeeding at the games.
Best book for the Games.......2006-12-19
I wasn't improving on games, so I decided to buy a games-only book. For most books a reviewer swears either that the book saved their life or that it brought them only grief and misery. I couldn't figure how the same book can be received so differently so I just bought all the games books (there are something like 8 of them). I didn't use all of them. I returned the ones that didn't measure up, I just had to pay a few bucks for return shipping.
I immediately returned the Arco and McGraw Hill books, they were clearly unrealistic (most other reviews share my opinion). The Kaplan book didn't cover anything that wasn't in their general LSAT book I had, so I retuned it too.
The Fat Genius book was very tough to work with because the visual quality is so bad it is distracting. The methods were okay, nothing amazing, but nothing invalid. It only has 12 real games from old LSATs, and I had seen some of them already, still not a big deal. It was an okay book, so I kept it. The powerscore book had been so positvely reviewed I figured it was going to work like magic. It didn't live up to expectations. It has 21 real games, but they were really old and I had seen many of them, still, not a big deal, practice is practice, right? The methods were fine, fairly standard stuff, and the layout was a lot easier to read. But, at $60 the powerscore book is really expensive, like college textbook expensive. I couldn't justify spending that much for a book that was not uniquely helpful, so I sent it back.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Ace the Games book. It was a sleeper because it didn't have any reviews. It is much bigger (at 520 pages) then both the Fat genius (200 pages) and powerscore (230 pages) books combined. It has 80+ games, and 12 are from the most recent three LSATs given last year. It has twice as many games as the other two books combined and its games are more recent. Best of all, it costs one-third as much as the other two books. I definitely kept it, it was the best value.
If you are only going to buy one book because you are short on time or money, get the Ace book. Or, if you have more time and want to play it safe, do what I did and buy several. Then return the ones you don't want after you look them over.
