5 out of 5 stars perfect for photographers.......2007-05-24

This is a perfect book for photographers, with sample forms, explanations as to how and when they would be used, and a CD with the same forms that can be customized. Very very useful, and excellent purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Legal Forms for Photographers.......2007-05-14

This is a good book for someone starting out in professional photography. Lots of information and background provided within.

5 out of 5 stars Very helpful.......2007-04-12

The book has a lot of forms for photography such as Wedding and Portrait contracts are very helpful and the book comes with a CD-ROM too.

5 out of 5 stars Great title for photographers.......2007-03-09

This title is a great addition to any photographer's library. If I ever need to find a contract or form to use, this book has it. If it doesn't have it, it does have something similar to what I need so I can adjust it to work for me.

Speaking of working for me...the CD included with this title is a God send. It has all the forms from the book in RTF and Word form. This is nice because you can just go add names or make edits as you see fit without having to retype everything on a page.

It also explains thing you need for each form if you want to create your own (such as basic guidelines for a consent form).

I'd recommend this book to any photographer without an attorney or many years of business/legal experience.

5 out of 5 stars How to Protect Yourself as a Professional Photographer.......2007-01-09

This book contains forms covering every area of photography. A must-have for everyone who makes or wants to make a living as a photographer.

Book Description

Having the great idea, creating the magnificent work of art, or coming up with the next fad is only the first step to cashing in on your creativity and hard work. Next up is protecting your intellectual property.

This book is for anyone who is intrigued by those three not-so-little words: patents, copyrights, and trademarks. That means you, if

  • You think you might be the next Thomas Edison or maybe another J.K. Rowling
  • Your company has recently developed a bold new corporate logo or eye-catching trademark
  • You’re thinking of a new concept in software, one that can revolutionize the entire manufacturing process
  • You’ve just dreamed up the latest in “latest things”

Patents, Copyrights & Trademarks For Dummies explains, in layman’s terms, the basic nature, function, and application of intellectual property (IP) rights, including how you can acquire those rights, wield them effectively against your competitors, or exploit them lucratively through licensing agreements and other rewarding adventures. This book covers all of these critical concepts, and more:

  • Working with IP professionals
  • Presenting a patent explanation
  • Determining what is copyrighted and what isn’t
  • Protecting your commercial identity
  • Inspecting the basic elements of a license
  • Determining infringement
  • Avoiding the ten worst naming blunders

With this book at you side, you’ll have a solid grasp of the processes involved in acquiring, registering, maintaining, and protecting the intellectual property rights due you and/or your company. You’ll be able to make informed decisions and speak confidently with the IP professionals you meet along the way. And you’ll have the tools and knowledge to take care of much of the work involved in the various research and registration processes.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Great Resource.......2007-03-29

When I received this book I was blown away by how much useful information it contained. It was easy to read and understand, has quick references that pertain to your subject or you can skip to something more applicable, and was filled with up-to-date information on how to obtain a patent. A great resource!

4 out of 5 stars Great Information for Business Beginners.......2007-03-09

When you think of a product you may be under the impression that I need to patent my invention, but don't have to do anything else. Nothing can be further from the truth. Henri Charmasson spells out clearly in this well written, humorous book how one must wisely go out and protect their intellectual property. He cleverly steers you through the unfriendly and confusing halls of the USPTO - the Patent and Trademark office, and guides you to seeking out the advice of an IP professional, (namely a patent attorney). It is a must read for new business owners, and many established businesses can use the help as well. But after going through the book, you will learn one thing - "Do not to go about patenting and Trademarking by yourself. Get a professional to help you."

    5 out of 5 stars Great entry-level book.......2006-06-21

I'm in legal with an IP background and this book is a great IP primer - I was pleasantly surprised by the depth. 'Dummies' is a misnomer as it provides entry-level to intermediate coverage.

As an accountant outside of the IP field, I found this to be a good tool to "round out" my business acumen. Enjoyed the presentation of pricing models.

Richard is a very well known authority among those of us who are involved in the technology commercialization industry. As a technology commercialization business coach, I hear regularly that Richard's advice in his books is extremely helpful in the most important areas of their work. You can count on the validity of Richard's information...he's been in the trenches and around technology commercialization for many years.

If you want to be successful in commercializing technology get Richard's books, study them and put his advice and suggestions into practice.

4 out of 5 stars Looks great so far !.......2005-10-22

I'm just through a couple of selected chapters, but I am certain that this book will provide me with an amazing outlook. It's very rounded, and includes a vast amount of information about licencing strategy, along with everything else. I suggest looking at the available images for the index (link to it somewhere on this page) and checking them out. Good stuff.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent work.......2005-09-20

Dr. Razgaitis has achieved an excellent job in illustrating most types of market-practiced methods in the valuation & pricing of tech-based intellectual property. He has done it not just in a coherent manner, but also with a touch of humourous & philosophical elements, which makes the book a surprisingly enjoyable read. Despite the fact that each valuation methods has different, or even diverse, characteristics, Dr. Razgaitis managed to clearly present how each method can be practically applied in various situations, and how these methods can be jointly applied to solve business problems. He has skillfully provided knowledge & guidelines for readers to come up with their own judgement regarding what methods to be applied in various real-world situations, rather than promoting a particular method as the 'silver bullet', like some other authors may attempt to do; this is refreshing & pragmatic as technology valuation is both art & science. The references of the book are also highly valuable, as they provides good pointers to resources that would enable readers to practice the methods.

5 out of 5 stars Some thoughts from a competing author.......2003-06-24

Dr. Razgaitis has tackled an area that contains the most difficult question facing professionals and intellectual property owners - how to value and price embryonic technology.

In recent years many have attempted to educate us on the subject of valuing intellectual property. Complex financial theories and spread-sheet models emerged, especially during the e-business bubble as some strove to explain the unexplainable valuations of enterprises whose only assets were intangible. Dr. Razgaitis obviously knows and understands the theories, but doesn't let the reader escape into flights of fancy, instead bringing one back to earth gently, sometimes with humor, sometimes with real-life anecdotes.

This book allows the reader to seek information to a depth that he or she wishes. As an example, the Monte Carlo technique is presented in all its complexity for those willing and able to study it. At the same time, mathematically challenged readers can still come away with an understanding of what is going on. The author is skilled in clearly explaining complexities and the many well designed charts and tables greatly assist the reader.

These are just some of the features that set this book apart and give it a strong practical value to all of those who create and exploit technology assets, and to those who advise them. Anyone in those roles should have this book within easy reach.

5 out of 5 stars Good book for law school, but not the patent bar........2007-06-18

I read this to prep me for the patent bar exam, which was not a good choice. It's a great book for a law student trying to cram for patent law course exams, but I recommend OmniPrep for passing the patent bar exam, if that's what you're trying to do.

4 out of 5 stars A pretty decent intro book.......2007-03-12

I bought this book to get the fundamentals of the patent bar exam. That was not a wise choice, but it is still a good book for other matters such as basic patent fundamentals. I actually skimmed through much of the book picking up key terms used in it for the patent bar exam however so that was good. It is also a great intro book to understand patents, drafting them, and prosecuting them. I recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book for Patent Law Students, by Flavio Mota.......2006-02-09

This is a useful book because it explains patent law and patent cases. It describes the relationship between the two. Furthermore, it includes good analogies that help the reader understand the hard to grasp concepts of intellectual property law. For example, the book has a very good description of Section 103--the bulk of an introductory patent law class. So, for all of the aforementioned reasons, a patent law student will appreciate this writing.

      5 out of 5 stars excellent book.......2004-04-08

I would highly recommend this book to any law student who is taking a class on patent law. Professor Mueller is an excellent writer, and she explains otherwise complex subjects in a way that is both comprehensive and easy to understand.

If you're taking a class on patent law, this book is simply indispensable.

5 out of 5 stars extremely helpful and comprehensive.......2004-04-08

I bought this book in preparation for my Patent Law exam, and it turned out to be much more helpful than my casebook, my other outlines, or anything my professor said in class. It is comprehensive, accessible, and very current. I would highly recommend this book to law students, lawyers, and others who need a well-written and well-researched introduction to the topic. It's simply the best in its field.

Author seemed in conflict with other experts in one area. He insists that only a face-to-face meeting can bring results and he strongly suggests that an agent should be hired. Other experts advocate that successs can be had without following this path.

5 out of 5 stars Well-organized, well written, useful book.......2007-06-03

I bought this book on a whim, thinking that as an experienced patent searcher for over 10 years, it wouldn't teach me anything. I WAS WRONG! This book is very well organized and will be useful to the novice as well as the experiences searcher. I actually learned a number of useful techniques and tools and am recommending this book to my colleagues. Finally, a book that has pertinent complex information in one place for easy reference. Mr. Hunt is to be congratulated for his unambiguous writing style and format. Kudos to Amazon for letting me know it was available. Thanks.

Satisfies the longstanding need for a practical, down-to-earth guide to intellectual property licensing

Intellectual property licensing is one of the most crucial, and least understood, income drivers among inventors and high-tech companies. Written by acknowledged experts in the field, Essentials of Intellectual Property Licensing provides managers with a clear, concise overview of IP licensing. In practical, down-to-earth language it clearly explains licensing strategies; deal making; royalties and royalty rates; patent, trademark and copyright licenses; and basic contract law. Managers learn the significance of intellectual property licensing on their bottom lines, and how to value both established and new intangible technologies. And, with the help of case studies and plenty of real-world tips and techniques for structuring and negotiating the best deals, the authors outline a complete step-by-step process for developing and implementing an effective intellectual property program in virtually any type of enterprise.

Paul J. Lerner (Suffern, NY) is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of General Patent Corporation, an intellectual property management company. Alexander I. Poltorak is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of General Patent Corporation.
