Customer Reviews:
egregious security violation.......2007-06-25
This product requires administrator privilege in order to get program updates from the website while running Windows Vista. This is outrageous. As administrator they can disable your privacy and security protocols (while looking at your financial data). This is shocking and lazy behavior for Nolo. They should have designed the program updates to work with network security prompts, same as every other responsible software company. I suggest anyone using this product unplug themselves from the internet while working with it and uninstall it when done. Very disappointing.
It does what it needs to do........2007-06-15
If you take the time to read the information and follow the instructions carefully, this will do exactly what it's supposed to do. Great document generator.
Willmaker Plus 2007 Very Impressive.......2007-05-21
I am very impressed with this product. The 500-page book alone provides a massive, detailed, practical, easy-to-read, and extremely helpful guide to the world of estate-planning legal documents. Just reading the book was an awesome self-education experience for me. Then, by firing up the software, I am walked step-by-step through the process of creating a will (or any number of additional legal documents) in a very easy, logical manner. For the person who desires to create a will, or any of the other legal documents covered, I highly recommend this product. It stands head and shoulders above any other product I have seen.
Simplicity at it's finest!.......2007-05-17
Since the more comprehensive reviewers here have already covered the features of Willmaker Plus 2007, I will only add a little opinion and a heep of praise to Quicken, for teaming up with Nolo in making this incredibly easy to use yet powerful program.
I must admit that I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I was able to create a simple Will without even opening the book because of the very easy to use step by step format. Legal jargon is explained brilliantly in laymans terms. This program is truly idiot proof!
Wills, Powers of Attorney for health care & finances along with other legal documents are the most important yet often neglected documents a person must deal with in life. Becoming incapacitated or dying without these documents in place can leave your loved ones with a real legal nightmare.
Completing my Will & Powers of Attorney and putting all of my important papers like deeds, titles, financial statements and insurance policies, in one place (known to loved ones) has given me tremendous peace of mind in knowing that my loved ones will have a much easier time resolving all of the legal matters if I become incapacitated or when I die.
Great product, just go to the notary, or have friends!.......2007-05-13
I have created a Will and a living will with this handy program. The book that comes with it is quite extensive, but the instructions are also viewed with each page you create. It guides you through the process and is really easy. The only problem is, when you are done with the document, you actually need to take action, and have someone witness your signature, and you need to have some documents notarized. It is a process you must do, or some of the documents you create are useless. Don't be lazy like me, get it done, and forget about it! In addition to wills and estate planning, it also has common legal documents, like things for pet sitters, credit history requests, and authorizations for temporary guardianships for minors. It is quite the package!

Book Description
My boyhood in a small town in Connecticut was shaped by my family, my friends, our neighbors, my chores and hobbies, the town's culture and environment, its schools, libraries, factories, and businesses, their workers, and by storms that came from nowhere to disrupt everything. . . . Yet childhood in any family is a mysterious experience. . . . What shapes the mind, the personality, the character?

So begins this unexpected and extraordinary book by Ralph Nader. Known for his lifetime of selfless activism, Nader now looks back to the earliest days of his own life, to his serene and enriching childhood in bucolic Winsted, Connecticut. From listening to learning, from patriotism to argument, from work to simple enjoyment, Nader revisits seventeen key traditions he absorbed from his parents, his siblings, and the people in his community, and draws from them inspiring lessons for today's society. Warmly human, rich with sensory memories and lasting wisdom, it offers a kind of modern-day parable of how we grow from children into responsible adults—a reminder of a time when nature and community were central to the way we all learned and lived.

Customer Reviews:
A Bygone Era.......2007-05-28
This is a great insight to what made Ralph Nadir, living in the small fifties-era town he grew up in, and seventeen traditional values of a Stepford Family. Nostalgic as a Rockwell cover for a Saturday Evening Post, it is an enjoyable read. Many of the traditions are timeless lessons still valuable today. While reading it, however, I couldn't help sharing the author's lament about the challenge of raising a family today. Unfortunately, the days without TV and computers, knowing your neighbors, and walking two blocks to the library are sadly gone. But, I am optimistic that the majority of the lament is with each passing generation. Today's young people are developing new variations of the Seventeen Traditions and someday they will undoubtedly also wax nostalgic as their best days pass.
Listen, Think Independently, Practice Civic Awareness.......2007-05-24
This is a wonderful book. The words are wise, the drawings throughout the book are warm and richly detailed. It is a quick read yet it is one of those books you find yourself mentioning and quoting to other people.
It would make a great graduation gift as guidelines on living a good life or a gift for those in the Greatest Generation as they remember back when family life and community were the anchors to build on.
"Who is more foolish, I wondered-the core group of committed voters and taxpayers who engage in the process, or the much larger number who habitually abstain from town affairs, leaving their interests to be decided by others?"
The Best "Little Book" Ever Written for Parents of Young Children.......2007-05-16
Elegant, timeless, profound, this is the best "little book" ever written for parents who seek to instill in their children traditional values that ennoble life, enrich community, and make democracy work.
I was particularly taken with its tone and pitch: serious yet never pedantic, thoughtful and eloquent and endearing without a hint of self-absorption, a tribute to a pair of uniquely responsible and caring parents, Nathra and Rose Nader, whose lives and whose four children (Ralph, Shafeek, Claire and Laura) epitomize the civic personality.
Buy this little jewel, an enchantingly disarming journey through Nader's boyhood in Winsted, Connecticut, to understand how values imparted by our mothers and fathers shape our destinies and, more specifically, which values enabled this small-town child of unconventional immigrant parents to grow up and become "one of the 100 most influential figures in American history." (For Nader's later history-changing life, you should also consider buying the critically acclaimed documentary film An Unreasonable Man on DVD).
It All Starts at Home. (Character, Success, Respect, Responsibility, etc).......2007-05-10
Five stars/cheers for Mr. Nader. I am a pediatrician and author of recent book entitled "It All Starts at Home, 15 Ways to Put Family First."(2004) Truly, our families are the foundation of our great society. Many of the family values that made our nation great are under attack. Mr Nader's book encourages us to go to battle to recapture and secure our "tour of duty" of being effective parents--families. He relays his message in a way that any young adult/parent can understand. This book should be required reading for all high school seniors. What a lovely mother's or father's day gift?
A MUST READ FOR EVERY CITIZEN OF THE WORLD.......2007-05-07
WHAT A MARVELOUS LITTLE BOOK AND HOW WELL EXPRESSED. WE ALL NEED TO READ THIS ONE.

Road to sucess!.......2007-06-10
The money you will save buying this book will save you thousands! It is a reference book that help you avoid all the common tax and legal problems when investing in real estate.
The ultimate get started book.......2007-04-10
This has been one of the best books on real estate I have ever read. I am just about to get started and will definately put this book into action. It is hard to get all of the topics for real estate into one easy to read format, but the Rich Dad advisors have done it and with a little flare. It is an easy read and good for anyone serious about getting started or if you have made mistakes along the way.
Great Stuff for the Money wise!.......2007-04-10
Full of great information if you want to know how to avoid costly mistakes for managing your excess funds.
A big disappointment..........2007-03-29
Unfortunately the book didn't uncover any "secrets" whatsoever as the title alludes to. The information contained in this book is very basic. I found one major problem with the text in that it encourages "component depreciation". My research and understanding is that this was clearly outlawed in the US in the 1980s. When I contacted the publishing company for clarification, no one would answer this simple question.
If this book was filled with high quality ideas, I would have overlooked an error or two and given this book 4 or 5 stars. But that wasn't the case as I've only been in the real estate game for a short time and already knew most of what is contained in this text. All in, this book isn't even worth the $5 +shipping I paid for it used....
Useful introductory general stuff.......2007-03-23
Much better written than the rambling and multiply-repetitive Kiyosaki books in the 'Rich Dad' series, this one is a useful basic primer on the Real Estate business. A nice Intro.

Excellent book for small business deductions!.......2006-06-26
This book is absolutely terrific (as are most NOLO books). the author details what is deductable for the different forms of businesses, what records are required, how to record those records and specifics for all the major topics of deductable expenses. All in all if you walked in to see an accountant day one of starting out your business he should just hand you this book have you read and then answer any questions that you need further clarification on. This is a great reference if you are unsure how a specific deduction works and a very quick and easy read. This should be on every business owners shelf!

Not Much Help.......2007-04-06
This book is intended primarily for incorporated Ebay sellers or Ebay sellers who plan to incorporate. It is of limited value for small businesses that are privately owned and filing a Schedule C tax form. I do not recommend it.
eBay Tax Gude is a useful resource.......2007-02-22
For a large volume eBay seller this is a vauable resource. For the more casual seller who sells occasionally or has a smaller volume of sales it is probably not necessary. It is well organized and it is easy to find the tax topic you wish to address.
very helpful.......2006-11-02
As a new e-bay store owner, I was in need of some tax advice. This book gave me everything I needed to know about owning a small business on e-bay. I read it cover to cover the first time and still often refer to it. Highly recommended to anyone who may not know how tax laws work for e-bay sellers.

Customer Reviews:
Probably The Best Book On This Subject.......2007-03-10
I have read and own numerous books on real estate investment and found this one to be one of the most concise and detailed books on apartment house investing on the market. I really don't understand what a previous reviewer meant by that it was a total loss. I found it to be detailed and informative. It literally takes you by the hand leads into investing on a property. I will be following the author's advice and begin investing in small apartment properties. If you are seeking true financial independence, you would be wise to purchase this book and not the crap promoted on late night t.v.
Worth The Investment.......2006-05-07
This is one of four books on purchasing and managing real estate that we purchased. Although pricey due to availability in hardback only, for those such as us that are first time buyers of commercial real estate, the data, clarity of thought and information will likely prove very valuable. It is a quick read that provides the basic tenets of buying multi-family units. The financial elements are fairly simplistic; hence we purchased an additional book that delves into the intricacies of purchasing and financing multi-family units.
Best I've Found Thus Far.......2006-02-25
Of the three books I've read on investing in multi-family real estate, this is by far the best. The author does a good job of walking the reader through from start to finish the purchase of a representative property. In the appendix the author provides several very easy to understand and useful financial analysis templates which can easily be recreated in Excel or any other spreadsheet program.
The Real Estate Recipe: Make Millions by Buying Small Apartment Properties in Your Spare Time.......2006-02-06
I found the book to be a very concise (Nuts & Bolts) and logical approach to buying small apartment properties from someone who obviously knows the process. He gives you all the tools needed to anaylise, purchase, manage and project profits. The forms in the book are easily accessed at the publisher's website www.dnapress.com for downloading. I'm closing on a 7 unit property in less than 2 weeks. Thanks Brian!
Complete Waste of money.......2005-10-14
This will be my first and only online review of any of my 200+ books in my library. But it needed to be said... The Biggest disappointment I have ever purchased...

Customer Reviews:
Not as useful as I thought.......2007-04-02
This book concentrates a lot on deductions you can make if you own a business. While there is a lot of useful information (and all legal if you keep abundant records), I was expecting more creative ways to lower taxable income.
little guy disaster.......2007-02-13
This book is geared to business people and not for the average individual. A lot of the tax saving strategies are fantasy too!!!!
It's alot easier to start a home-based business than you think!.......2007-01-12
This book is absolutely amazing! Great tips, awesome information, and everything backed up with references. You can get started with a home-based business (Watkins, Avon, etc) for next to nothing, and the money you save on taxes in one year should more than pay for the cost to get started with a familiar company. This info in this book can help you start saving tax dollars from day one.

Well-referenced.......2006-11-01
Much of this book does apply to me (a sole-proprietor). You can get a lot of the information from other sources, but this book does cram a lot into a fairly compact and easy to read format. Although the book is not exhaustive, it does have a benefit over many other tax books (including a couple of the NOLO tax guides): It cites the IRS rulings, private letters etc. that you would need to back up your tax strategies in the face of an audit. My accountant is only willing to claim deductions that he can justify to the IRS. The citations make this easy.
The book is not particularly well-organized, so you do need to read the whole thing to find specific tax deductions.
The book has saved me some money on taxes over the past couple years. In that respect, it has been a good investment. More importantly, it has suggested strategies for me going forward.
I will buy the new edition when it comes out.
A Great Reference Book for Small/Home Based Business Owners.......2006-08-03
It is rare to find a great tax book like this - easy to read, understand and implement, with all authorities referenced. The information in this book is literally worth a ton if taken to heart and implemented - especially for small and home based business owners. A dollar saved by reducing taxes is worth much more of income generated. Pay the price of learning and implementing the concepts laid out in this book - I am confident you will be glad you did. Highly Recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Not of value to me..........2007-01-09
I purchased the Willmaker Plus CD. The accompanying manual looked a bit thin so I ordered Estate Planning for Dummies to read before getting down to the Willmaker manual and program. Frankly, it was a waste of time and money, as the Willmaker manual and the on-screen help was more concise and better written. I've been happy with several Dummies books, but this isn't one of them.
You would be a dummie to buy this book........2006-06-22
Open this book and you will see that it is formatted and reads like every other textbook you have read since college. The writing makes no attempt to reduce the complexities of the subject. It simply reiterates all the language you never understood in the first place. As the author of "Everything A Baby Boomer Should Know -- An Insider's Guide to Estate Planning," I suggest you compare my book which honestly and easily explains the tools of the probate system, to this book which is impossible to understand if you have no background on the subject.
Its okay but I wanted more-specific information.......2006-01-09
This book gives you general information about Estate Planning but It left me wanting more. I was surprise that it didnt mention anything about AB trust. I wish it would have given the upside and donwnside to each options of wills or trust.
I would have settled for a checklist what to ask your lawyer or accountant considering that he kept harping of always ask your lawyer. Although I see the lawyer point, if I was meeting with a lawyer I would have not wasted 20 dollars and change to read the book.
Many who read books like Dummies want to avoid paying thousands of dollars to a lawyer or as I mention , and if you want me to ask my lawyer at least give me very specific checklist of questions.
If you could, buy it at a discount or borrow it from the library. I probably sell mine on Ebay.
They weren't kidding when they said "for dummies".......2005-04-28
I didn't find this book helpful at all. It just barely skims the surface, and usually concludes with "make sure you talk to your accountant/attorney/estate planner." If I intended to talk to all those folks, I wouldn't waste my time reading this book in the first place. Most of what this book covers could be learned by snooping around the web - and in many cases you can learn more that way. It defines the terminology, but even that is often inadequate. I suggest you check this book out from the local library, and then if you find it to be a useful resource go ahead and buy it. I wish I had done that - I don't feel this book has enough information to really qualify as a reference book.
Are we that dumb?.......2005-02-12
I thought the tone of this book was really patronizing (okay yeah I know it's for 'dummies' but does it need to keep reminding you of that fact constantly?). It's repetitive and ultimately tells you to consult an estate planner anyway--so forget using it to save money to plan your own estate. For a much more directly useful guide to estate planning (with forms you can fill out on a cd-rom), I highly recommend Quicken's Willmaker Plus. You get all the same information as in this book, plus more, and in a much less annoying style. And since it includes the forms for the key documents you need to prepare (e.g., simple will, durable power of attorney, etc.), you may be able to plan your own estate yourself (dummy or not).
