As a novice developer, this book put me on the right track without all the confusion and terms I would have never understood. It was simple to understand and after reading it, I felt like I knew a lot more. Very interesting and satisfying. Great reference guide all the way around.
very good all-around reference.......2004-03-01
I primarily work as a structural-architectural engineer and am becoming more and more involved in civil-site work. This handbook is exactly what I was looking for in terms of something that would quickly get me "up to speed" in the fundamentals of civil-site design.
Of course, no single book could (or should) be thought of as a substitute for the experience and mentoring received from seasoned professionals in a design office, but this one has enough technical explanation and details to get you going with confidence.
I choose this one over the Colley book (reviewed both before making purchase) as Land Development Handbook has more of the technical info that engineers would seek.
Difficult to follow!.......2003-12-16
I am in a class at Community College of Baltimore County and we are using this book at this time. Our whole class along with the Professor find this book to be very difficult to follow. The book constantly repeats itself making it extremely boring to read and is not fluent at all. They have examples that reference charts that are 3-5 pages apart from the problem being discussed the formulas you almost have to figure out for yourself how they are used and there are alot of typos.
I recomend burning this book!!!!!!!
A Must Have Pub.......2002-07-04
Ever since I purchased this publication I can't stop using it. Every civil engineer should have this as part of their reference library, regardless of your area of specialty. It provides macro to micro scale explanations of general processes, design applications, etc in a very readable format. More times than I can remember I have looked to this book for an answer or at least for some guidance and was throuroughly satisfied. No it is not a definitive reference for civil engineers but its' breadth and usability overshadows any technical shortcomings. If I had to have just one reference book for my area of practice (general civil), this would be it. Yeah, yeah, the "Standard Handbook for Civil Engineers" is a more definitive reference, but I usually find out what I need in this pub.
ps - Almost everyone of my fellow employees that has used the book has purchased their own, find someone you know who has a copy and check it out for yourself.
A Book for the Project Engineer Engaged in Land Development.......1999-10-12
This book is the first book that really reflects and addresses most of the "everyday" issues encountered in site design and land development. It has a practical application and includes most of the charts, tables and nomographs that are necessary to complete a given design procedure. It also provides very appropriate and helpful examples.

This is an amazing story of a Tutsi girl's survival in a year when over 500,000 Tutsi were killed while the West slept. The chapters are chronilogical, short and gives us a real page turner that can be consummed in a holiday weekend or during a relaxing vacation week.
The story is sad but the overwhelming message from Immaculee is of hope and forgiveness- even for those who allow kids to be eaten by dogs, commit mass rape and kill with machetes.
Read this book- realize what hate can do, but more importantly how love and forgiveness can conquer anything, even genocide. This book can entertain, amaze and help the reader heal; one cannot help but hold Immaculee up as an amazing Catholic and human being.

This was one of the most amazing stories I've ever read. Immaculee's faith and love of God, even through this horrific time, was inspiring. I had to keep telling myself that this was a true story. Everyone needs to read this so they know how lucky we are to live in such a safe place. And we all need to realize that God is always there with us...ALWAYS!!! Immaculee is a true inspiration to me!! Thank Immaculee for telling us your story!!!

Immaculee Ilibagiza survived a horrible and devasting period in our history and has relayed her story in a very touching and very engaging manner. I appreciated that the book was written in such a way as to relay the horror that took place (and in many places still is), but didn't lower herself to frequent and overly graphic descriptions of the atrocities suffered by her countrymen. The descriptions of her inner thoughts, god vs. devil, and the difficulties in not giving in to hate made her both very human yet very enlightened at the same time. I was fascinated by her retelling of how she came to forgive those who destroyed her entire world. She is a pillar of stength and we are better for having read her story. Highly recommended.

This well-written book does a great job of dispelling a lot of the mis-information that currently abounds in the market place.

Jay Adkisson is my voice of reason in the field. This is heavily researched brain food for asset protection. The rule of law is constantly massaged and altered as the courts challenge provisions, and I always feel safest turning to Jay for his interpretation. In particular the Albright 291 Rptr. 538 ruling in Colorado has alot of LLC attorneys spooked. I'm sure we'll be hearing from Jay soon on this one.
Above the Norm.......2007-01-17
Asset protection is a good practical sense guide on the areas of trust, business entities and a dose of reality. If your at a point where the accumulated assets is worth protecting for yourself, spouse, kids and family then this is the book to read. Its not too technical but down to earth business sense. I find this book is geared to people that have some familarity with the business environment. If you know why you want to protect your assets then this book is the next step.
No Surprises Here.......2006-05-30
Adkisson and Riser are beacons in the darkness that is labeled asset protection. This book, and the attitudes it sets forth towards asset protection (when that term may be discretely used) are the de facto standard of care and woe be to the professional who believes otherwise. I say there are no surprises because the book is the embodiment of the professional, real life anti-scam viewpoint in this area Jay Adkisson has come to represent. Do not ignore the fact most of these five star reviews are by attorneys like myself who see the aftermath of so-called asset protection, off-shore entities and third world trusts. Don't miss it.
A "must read"!!.......2005-06-06
I have practiced estate planning, with an emphasis on asset protection planning, for many years. This book's explanation of various asset protection techniques, many of which I have used in my own practice, is both lucid and thorough. Not only will experienced practitioners find the book to be an invaluable source, but beginners too will discover a text that is highly readable and easy to understand. I am confident saying that Asset Protection spans "the universe" of such techniques, with both analysis of the fundamental "building blocks" of the area and coverage of more advanced methodologies. Apart from its useful content, I also found the format of Asset Protection to be particularly straightforward, starting with its discussion of the basic concepts of asset protection and its goals, as well as ethical considerations, proceeding to cover many trusts currently being employed in sophisticated estate planning, and ending with a thorough discussion of entities that should play a part in many sophisticated estate plans. In sum, for beginner and practitioner alike, this book is a "must read"!!

This is an excellent exam aid for the student who has already put in at least some of the work of studying during the semester but wants to sharpen up in preparation for finals. It is not a quick-and-ready, black letter law outline. It provides thoughtful, accessible analysis of the significant areas of civpro and then provides excellent short essay questions and answers.
This book is best at helping you practice the analysis necessary for perfoming well on essay exams. It is the only study aid my civpro professor recommends, and it helped me secure A's both semesters.

A must have for any 1L. This book is a staple in the book library of any first-year law student taking civil procedure. It explains everything at an easily understandable level w/ examples and explanations to go along with it.

This and the sister volume for torts are must-have resources for any 1L. All of the topics this book covers are covered well, but its greatest value lies in its accessible treatment of discovery, personal and subject-matter jurisdiction, joinder, collateral estoppel, and res judicata. As reviewers above have said, this book (as well as others in the series) contributes to a detailed understanding of complex topics: it is neither a cheat nor a shortcut and was, in fact, required by my Civ Pro professor. Also, if you finish a section of this book and still want more examples, The Glannon Guide to Civil Procedure is just as helpful and accessible.

The Surveyor's Bible.......2002-12-29
While preparing for my licensing exam, I read this book from cover to cover. It addresses every principle of retracement (sequential and simultaneous conveyances), public lands, and riparian issues thoroughly. The highlighted "principle" at the heading of each new topic makes remembering the main points simple. I can honestly say that every question on the NCEES exam that dealt with general principles and practice was answered in this book. I passed on my first sitting, and this book was one of the main reasons why. If you can only study one reference, this is it. Every practicing surveyor should also refer to it regularly.

Chapters include: Appearance by Plaintiff (preparing the Complaint and all required forms, filing and serving by all allowable methods); Filing and Service (filing and serving documents throughout the case); Default by Defendant (entering a default and obtaining default judgment); Appearance by Defendant (preparing, filing, and serving answers and cross-complaints); Motions (preparing regular motions, discovery motions, ex parte applications, demurrers, and motions to strike); Discovery (setting up depositions of parties and non-parties, preparing, serving, and responding to requests for admission, interrogatories, and requests for production); Settlement and Dismissal (notifying the court of settlement and dismissing the case); Pre-Trial (preparing case management documentation and subpoenaing witnesses); and Judgment and Enforcement (placing liens on real estate, noticing judgment debtor exams, obtaining costs of suit).

This books has helped our students enormously! It serves as a guide for them in the learning proces as well as goes with them to the workplace along with the updates and gives them a real edge as a new employee in a law office setting. Some say their boss (the attorney) uses the guide too!

I have been teaching paralegal study courses since 1992, and have used a variety of other texts and resource material during those years. Litigation By The Numbers is a much better teaching tool than other publications previously available. In
fact, it is the best text currently on the market. The book is well organized allowing students, legal secretaries and paralegals to quickly reference forms and state procedures.
The chapters are thoughtfully organized and easy to understand. Each chapter is compact, allowing the reader to quickly find state forms and answers to procedural questions such as filing and service deadlines. Students and legal professionals will find the book to be a handy and quick resource for tasks most common to a law office.

I highly recommend Litigation By The Numbers to anyone who is involved in civil litigation in California. It has step-by-step instructions on how to take a case from filing all the way to enforcement of a judgment. There are numerous easy to understand illustrations. The book brings together the applicable Code of Civil Procedure, Rules of Court, and Judicial Council forms. It takes a very complex process and makes it simple and easy to follow. The book is well worth the price.

This is a fantastic hard cover book which relates much of the information needed when working in the related field. Tjompson/Delmar Learning publishers are among the highest in their field. If you are looking for a source on Civil litigation then you most certainly have found it.

This book is very poorly written. There are many typographical errors throughout the book and many, many inaccuracies in the content. Some terms are used incorrectly and instead of assisting the reader in learning civil litigation, it creates confustion and frustration.
I would not recommend this book to anyone - especially students.
I hope the new edition is worth the paper it's written on.

For all those up and comming law studients, this is a great information source. Step by step, the steps of the litigation process are illustrated. In addition, it is written in such a way that even a person with no legal background (like myself) can understand it. I highly recomend this book.

I had to buy this book as part of a college course curriculum.
This book was well written and easy to read. I really enjoyed the material covered in the book.
Of course, the professor of the course I was taking added a lot of personal material which was extremely helpful, but overall this was a great book for the course.
There is definitely room for improvement as there were quite a few grammar and spelling errors in this book as well as two instances of absolutely incorrect legal information concerning family law which the professor had to bring to our attention.

This book breaks it all down. Time management, budgeting, deaking with staff and technical issues. For those in the field already, its a refresher and a confirmation of what you're doing. For those new to the field, it can serve as an operations manual for guidance. Appendix B that describes the job description is invaluable.
