"Joe Satriani - Live in San Francisco" is a joy to watch and listen to. Concert DVD's don't always lend themselves to a lot of repeat viewing, but this show does and then some. Everything about it is right and the sheer spectacle of Joe doing his thing is awesome.

My wife likes this concert a lot too, and she is not into power rock. I play some of the rock ballads for her (like Rubina), then Flying In A Blue Dream... and before you know it she is willing to appreciate Surfing With The Alien as a closer. :)

If you like Joe and/or sensational guitar... go for it! -Greg-

I have never seen the master at work, and while watching this I was just in awe of Joe. Joe is THE greatest guitarist on the planet. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone. Also, because of all the close ups of his hands I found it pretty helpful as an instructional DVD incase you're wanting to know how the master does it.

At last, a great performance and interview preserved on film........2007-07-03

The excitement of Sanders in concert and the extraordinary ensemble he always assembles have been finally captured on video. This is long overdue. In an ideal world, one DVD would be released annually to chart his range and explorations. I plan to share this with my classes as an ideal way of understanding and experiencing jazz at its height. The solos by all are exemplary and at white heat. An interview finds him describing his way of interacting with musicians, ideas, and building on his experience with Coltrane. One hopes that more will follow.

I don't care what your idea of punk rock is, this concert captures a place and a time in American music that defies definition. The Screamers were and will always be one of the best punk rock bands. . .period. The recording may not be top notch, but who cares. The band never recdorded and this may be the only chance for anyone of us to experience even a fraction of what they may have been like up close. Plus, if you look closely, Jello Biafra just happens to fall by. An absolute must have for any punk rock collector!!!

This DVD is without a doubt not just a great performance, but a snapshot in time of one of the most different and essential punk bands ever. They were never properly recorded and their live shows were incendiary. As a result, this DVD is a document that captures the brilliance, fire, and innovation of a band WAY ahead of their time. The next best thing to a time machine...the Screamers rule.

Rerelease by Target Video ESSENTIAL VIEWING........2004-10-12

It looks like Target is finally rereleasing some of their coveted and out-of-print live videos from back in the day and if this release is any example, they've done their homework. It doesn't look like there will be any extras on this, but if there are it could even eclipse the video version (which I've seen go for $75 on eBay).
To the uneducated, The Screamers were a great bunch of fellas from the mid-Seventies punk scene who had roots in Ze Whiz Kids from Seattle, the Northwest new wave band The Tupperwares, and the Cockettes (Namely in lead frontman Tomato du Plenty).
Their performances became legend and has since spawned a cottage industry of synth punk (or the more current "synthpunk") genrefied bands around the USA.
As far as I'm concerned, this DVD is required viewing for any music fan.

The footage in this DVD is from the "good" time period of the band when they had a more punk edge. The footage is pretty good (if you're familiar with Target Video releases you know what to expect) with little cheesy effects thrown in that I could have done with out. The sound quality is pretty good. It's an awsome video, the only real complaint I have is that it's too short.

The audio and video quality are exceedingly poor....think distorted AM radio with a super-8 quality picture, and you'll get the idea. It's astonshing that a company even would consider putting this on the market.

A great live set (two actually) that shows why Stephane was able to make any song, old or new, sound like it was written the night he played it. The combination of traditional and modern sounds in this quartet is lovely, and all players add their particular strengths to the mix. When Stephane plays the electric violin, it's as if he was born to it, and the interplay between Martin Taylor and Diz Disley, with their very different guitar styles, is great fun. For the money, it's well worth having.

Only one complaint: the camera work, especially in the outdoor section, is naturally terrible, as it is on almost every music film I've ever seen. I personally just want to watch the musicians play (so I can steal their stuff!), not see "artistic" shots of the crowd etc. But don't let that bother you; this is a wonderful DVD.

Note that track 14 is mislabeled on the DVD; it's actually "Time After Time" by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne, not "Danny Boy."

I saw several of these shows and this video doesn't do them justice. While it's musically sound, it doesn't capture any of the energy from the crowd. It's kind of sterile in it's presentation but the trio rocks. Lot's of Todd guitar which is why it's worth buying. The theater shows on this tour just didn't have the crackling vibe that the bar shows did and this comes across as a theater show. If they had recorded the added, spur of the moment show from the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA, you could crank that up, rattle your walls and your brain, and really get a feel for what this tour was all about. That said, it's still a nice musical momento.

I attended this show and did not miss the big band (Big Bland) thing at ALL. I'm just sorry I have yet to see any really excellent Todd in-concert videos.

For someone like me who wasn't around when Todd was rocking in the 70s it was an eye-opener. This band played so well together they didn't need any extra anything. And it was cool to hear something besides Hello It's Me. Five stars for the performance, wish I could give the DVD the same.

I been a Todd fan many years and I love Todd the band the backup everything in the live in Japan concert, soooo we bought Todd live in San fran and its no more todd with the great band or the great backup singers its nothing like it at all, its just todd and some clown screaming and playing guitar, no longer singing, just screaming, as a matter of fact my wife saw todd live in japan and then saw live in San fran and she cannot believe its even the same person, we threw that and the desk top collection tapes away, and I recommend niether tape to anyone.......

This video arrived in the mail from Amazon.com 30 years after I first saw Todd on tour (Wizard/original Utopia). Granted, nothing will ever top that event, but thinking back on all of the other times that I have seen Todd through the years, I am really glad that this tour has been preserved on video for posterity. I cannot ever recall seeing him rock this hard as what is presented here! No keyboards, just guitar, bass, and drums. Tood's guitar fans will absolutely love this video! The set list is predominantly the boogie and blues influenced numbers. Songs like Public Servant from Second Wind and Determination from Hermit would also have fit very well into this long set list, to give you an idea. The only slow parts are the ukelele version of Bang The Drum, and the experimental Number One Lowest Common Denominator. As for the quality of the video, I initially did not like the very amateur feel to it, especially since it opens up with some bad sound checks from various cities. Then I realized as usual, Todd is a genius, and this video makes the viewer feel like he/she is actually in that small concert hall. This video will also serve the purpose in helping the Todd fan to decide if it is worth driving 8-12 hours to see him on his next tour (Jan. 2003). Give me the car keys!
