Ricky Martin's bravura, swivel-hipped performance of "The Cup of Life" at the 41st annual Grammy Awards handily stole the spotlight from the evening's platinum-edged superstars, positioning him as poster boy for a Latin pop crossover boom that dominated media for months to follow. Like most "overnight" sensations (or, for that matter, "brand new" pop trends), Martin's impact was actually the payoff for an extended apprenticeship: anything but a novice, this Puerto Rican native was already a major star in the Spanish-speaking pop realm, having graduated from his early stint as a plump-cheeked member of Menudo to become a sleek heartthrob.

With his chiseled features, flashing smile, and sinuous physical presence, Martin can't be blamed for playing to his female fans, and these video clips do just that. The sequence for Martin's breakout English hit, "Livin' La Vida Loca" (also included in a Spanish version) offers a template of sorts: footage of Martin performing the song in a nightclub setting is interspersed with location shots of the singer and the siren he's singing about, stitched together with rapid cuts and swirling camera movement that echo the percolating rhythms. Elsewhere, on "She's All I Ever Had," Martin downshifts to the role of earnest balladeer. The objects of his affection are typically drop-dead gorgeous (and, in one instance, teasingly undraped), and the undercurrent of sex approximates the sort of glossy perfection you'd expect from lingerie or perfume ads.

Ricky Martin's greatest talent is his effervescent showmanship, which he pours out to his audience with all his heart; I'd like to see a camera set in front of him, and just let him "do his thing", without the fancy camera shots, the endless edits, and the plethora of writhing babes that occupy most of the screen time. The video of "La Vida Loca" is the worst offender for this, which if you totaled up the time Ricky was on screen, it would probably be a lot less than what the wiggling dames get.
I also prefer him singing Spanish, and luckily we get 6 videos in Spanish in this collection. Total running time is 40 minutes.

The videos are:
"Livin' La Vida Loca" (English), Ricky's super hit.
"She's All I Ever Had" (English), this ballad has some nice special effects, with a dramatic, changing sky.
"La Bomba" (Spanish), this is probably the best track musically, and by far my favorite track in this collection. It's got a terrific rhythm, piano and brass arrangement, and it's Ricky at his very best.
"Perdido Sin Ti" (Spanish), a ballad with terrific b&w imagery, taken right out of Wim Wenders' film "Wings of Desire".
"Livin' La Vida Loca" (Spanish)
"Vuelve" (Spanish), filmed in what must be a Frank Lloyd Wright house, the architecture is fabulous, and the beauty of this ballad is that it's 100% Ricky, no babes.
"Maria" (Spanish), this is a fun, up-beat video, with Ricky looking young and very cute, filmed in what looks like Barcelona.
"Bella" (Spanish), the Spanish version of "She's All I Ever Had".
"The Cup of Life" (English), Ricky wows them at the Grammys. this is the live performance of the official 1998 World Cup song.

Nice collection of Ricky's recent-ish/popular videos! The visual and audio sound quality is excellent. My only complaint is that I wish there were MORE videos on this disc (I felt it was a little short). However, if you are a long-time Ricky fan like me, you will enjoy.

I was so amazed to see this hunk move in front of me. It was the closest and most intimate time that I have ever spent with Ricky. I am sure that any Ricky fan or non Ricky fan will enjoy.

Well, what I can say about this video is that is fantastic. You really feel great when watchin' this video you will never get tired of watching the whole day 'cause it contains the very best videos of this boricua who is my hero. I think he's the hero of all the people who are really proud of being latins. Let me say that is you really wanna dance or cry just watch this dvd. inside of it you will have "livin' la vida loca"( for dancing.), you'll have "vuelve" (for crying.)so get it now! I am the biggest fan of ricky here in Lima, Peru so believe me ! i'm telling you the truth!

Menudo Mania!.......2006-07-25

I am so glad I found this DVD! I am a Menudo fan from way back but grew up in the Midwest. Not much Menudo merchandise was available so at this time in my life I am playing catch up.

This DVD IS a must, must have for any Menudo fan. I would even suggest it to fans of Ricky Martin who discovered him after he left the group...especially those who discovered him after the Grammys.

If you never had a chance to see this group in concert, buy this DVD! Seeing Ricky Martin at age 14 is like going down memory lane. Its amazing seeing the stage presence and star power he had at such a young age. It become obvious that he was a super star in the making and just the cutest thing on the planet!

Its also interesting seeing Robby Rosa (now going by Draco Rosa, singer/songwriter/producer) back then. You could see that he was a talented artist in the making as well. Its also amazing to see how much he has changed since the 80's.

This concert DVD is fun and it will put a smile on your face from begining to end!

I never got to see Menudo in concert as a teenager, so this video (dvd) was fantastic to watch, because it gave me a chance to be in the front row, and brought back so many memories for me of the group. I was most in awe of Charlie, but the other guys were great! I knew all their birthdays, could write their signatures, and still have my giant scrapbook of memorabilia. I have to credit them with teaching me more Spanish than I learned in high school! Anyway, the concert is great .. the start to all the boy bands to follow, but there will never be another MENUDO.

Truly one of the best singing group in music history. Robi rosa should be highly credited for being the front man in uplifting the group. All of them namely: Robi, Ricky , Charlie, Ray , and Roy perform a 100% and they also have their solo turns except Roy. Anyhow, it`s still a must to add it to your collection. I highly recommend this video so get a hold of it before it runs out of stock. It`s marvelous , Amazing , and very Entertaining.

The is the ultimate Ricky Martin video collection! I suggest it for anyone who's a pre-Grammy fan and post-Grammy fan. If you want to get a true meaning of who this entertainer is this DVD is for you.

I loved seeing his videos from A Medio Vivir and Vuelve. There were even one or two I hadn't seen before. The only tiny gripe I have is that the video for El Amor De Mi Vida was not included in this collection (although the song IS on the La Historia CD).

The interviews included were great as well. Gives the fan a chance to see Ricky in rare form.

I would suggest this DVD to anyone who considers themself a fan of this artist. A must have for your Ricky Martin collection!

I loved this DVD < it's absoulutely Awesome!, All his best videos, Excellent!. Also the bonus footage which is a collage of Ricky Martin is really great & exciting to watch. I highly reccomend this if you are a fan of Ricky Martins Spanish Music.

A great compilation of Ricky Martins best work.......2003-09-15

This is a great dvd for any Ricky Martin fan, even for those who got ripped off when they purchased "Ricky Martin: The Videos" (released prior to this dvd). It truly is the "The Best of" Ricky Martin. It offers music videos from his early career before us Americans knew he was "Livin' La Vida Loca". This dvd is a spin-off from his greatest hits cd (that caries the same title), Which probably was released to show America he wasn't a one hit wonder.

There are two great perks to these videos being on dvd,
1.)You can flick to your favorite video (I love all of them)
2.) The SOUND is incredible when hooked up to a Dolby 5.1 surround sound system. It blows the compact disc version (which offers more songs) out of the water.

Now, the great thing about watching these Ricky Martin videos is that he is not only a gifted vocalist but an even more gifted performer. I highly recommend this dvd to those who speak Spanish, or those who don't. The videos explain the songs. It is a great hour of entertainment.

Lastly, a note to anyone who says Ricky Martin is a poor entertainer. You seriously don't know what you are talking about. You have obviously have never seen him perform, just give this dvd or "One night Only" a try, then I guarantee you will change your mind.

I give it Five out of Five stars for being one bad-a@# dvd!

A Nice Collection of Ricky Martin Videos.......2002-04-27

I really enjoy Ricky Martin's music and recently purchased this video. I was pleased with this collection of many of his Spanish language videos. If you're a big fan, then you'll like it, too. The videos are: Maria; Te Extrano, Te Olvido, Te Amo; Fuego De Noche, Nieve De Dia; Volveras; Vuelve; La Copa De La Vida; La Bomba; Por Arriba, Por Abajo; Perdido Sin Ti; Livin' La Vida Loca; Bella (She's All I Ever Had); She Bangs (Spanish version); and Solo Quiero Amarte (Nobody Wants to be Lonely). It's about one hour long. I liked it because here in the U.S. you really never get to see many of these videos.

Great collection of older, hard-to-get Spanish-language vids.......2002-04-09

This DVD includes videos for Te Extrano, Fuego de Noche, and other older Spanish-language Ricky Martin hits that are difficult or even impossible to see otherwise in the U.S. The videos are of good quality and there are quite a few, although I think that the inclusion of Maria and Vuelve is somewhat redundant, as they also appear on the Ricky Martin Video Collection. There are also a few songs I would have liked to see videos for, such as Fuego Contra Fuego. All in all, however, this is a good collection.
