Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Next Best Thing to Being There.......2005-03-16

NRBQ are one of those wonderful bands that have had a rabid following for decades, yet are unknown to most music listeners- mainly because their music is either too out of fashion, or just too unclassifiable to be played on radio. One minute they're rocking out to "Shake, Rattle and Roll" and they next they're doing a country version of Mario Lanza's "Be Mine". From there they'll segue into a Sun Ra tune, and just as smoothly into "Wild Weekend", from the 60s teen movie of that name.

Watching NRBQ is a treat for musicians and listeners alike. First, they could teach most bands a thing or two about playing together and connecting with an audienc. Watching them play "Shake, Rattle and Roll"- a favorite with my band- I only wish we could play it with half as much everygy as NRBQ do. Second, it's amazing to see a band having so much sheer fun on stage after playing together as long as they have- over thirty five years!

This disk is primarily a set from a 1989 concert when Big Al Anderson (their third guitarist) was with the band. He's gone off to pursue a successful career, but the band continues soldiering on with bassist Joey Spampinato's little brother Jimmy on guitar, and the bonus tracks include a recent music video ("Dummy") featuring the current lineup.

My only complaint is that the performance - 9 songs- seems far too short. I just love watching NRBQ. If you love music played with heart, you will too.

4 out of 5 stars The best band nobody ever heard of .......2005-03-10

This DVD is short (just 9 songs) and NRBQ fans will be wishing they did this song or that song, but it is very good and it seems to be the only live NRBQ video available. The boys really tear it up on "Rocket In My Pocket", "12 Bar Blues", "Crazy Like A Fox", and guest saxman Klem Klimek does a great solo on "Here Comes Terry". The sound quality is very good, and it's very exciting to see Al Anderson in action on guitar. He is one of the very best and most unique guitarists in America. Too bad he doesn't play with the Q anymore. His presence in this video is another good reason to see it or own it. I'm giving this DVD 4 stars instead of 5 only because it's not a full NRBQ show. If it had 9 more songs and featured some of Terry Adams hilarious between song commentaries it would be perfect.

5 out of 5 stars If you've never seen 'em, you have never seen perfection.......2004-12-01

Without a doubt the most entertaining and talented group of musicians ever assembled. Playing for over 35 years in small clubs and smokey bars, Terry, Tom, Joey and Al have had one of the most successful "unsuccessful" careers in the history of music. Never featured on the radio dial or on any publication's top twenty list, NRBQ is the favorite band of almost every superstar band or solo artist. Why? Because they can play any song, anytime, anywhere. Just buy any CD, listen to it two or three times and your hooked. Next step, find NRBQ in a live venue, get in your car, drive 200 miles if necessary and see the best bar band that ever lived.
