A MUST for all TKK fans.......2006-03-09
Great music videos and a live show for Hit and Run Holiday. Plus a movie called My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. You want this DVD...you need this DVD, if you're a Kult fan at all.
The worlds most dangerous kult?.......2005-08-15
Being a fan for 15 years, I thought I'd give this a rent. It wasn't bad to see once, but i'll probably never see this twice. I guess the videos weren't as good as I expected them to be. "And This Is What The Devil Does" was ok, as was "Kooler Than Jesus", "Sex On Wheels" and "Blue Budda", but most was a tad on the repetitive side, and rather boring. Lot's of stage shots, etc. You can get the drift of each video in just the first 30 seconds of the song. Songs like "Glamour Is A Rocky Road" have more potential. Also, why are there no vids for "X-Communication", "A Daisy Chain For Satan", or "Cuz It's Hot"? The live stuff was decent, and the film short at the end was something anybody could have done. Still, something to see for the major fan. Otherwise just enjoy the kool music, and make your own videos in your head.
WHY ?.......2005-05-20
Why is it that so many techno/industrial/dance bands make great music but can't make great videos? These videos are dreadful. Just terrible. Very badly dated. They manage to include just about every visual cliche in the book, from the clothes and styling of the band, to the graphics and the production of the promos themselves. A primer on how NOT to make music videos. Cringe-inducing. To put it in perspective, not as good as the KMFDM dvd, and not as bad as the Ministry dvd. Makes me ashamed to be a fan of TKK.
WHERE'S THE "Final Blindness" VIDEO???.......2004-11-07
i agree with the other review... it's cool to have, but i've had all of the 'good era' promo videos on VHS for over a decade... so it's really nothing great when you think about it. as with the other reviewer, i lost total interest in the band after "13 Above The Night" (their last GREAT release) and this DVD has A LOT of stuff after that... so it sorta sux. (really, when Buck Ryder left, they started to go downhill... just not as fast as they did after "13 Above") also, there's no "Final Blindness" video!!!! i have this on VHS from a local cable access show that played music videos, and TKK did a promo spot for this same video show when they were in town doing a concert, so i know it is an "official" video... but, i think there might have been 'rights' issues since it's made up entirely of movie clips from HÄXEN, SPIRITS OF THE DEAD, ALUCARDA, etc., but they could have at least added it as a hidden easter egg or something :) on the technical side, every so often, there's a 'pop' or 'glitch' in the sound. i'm not sure if you will notice it on TV or stereo speakers, but on headphones it's more than annoying.
oh well... 666!
A Must-Have For Hardcore TKK Fans!.......2004-11-04
Being a long time TKK fan, I had to instantly buy this DVD. Seeing the videos for the songs I played ad nauseum was great, but I was a bit disappointed about the lack of videos for anything off of "Confessions Of A Knife". My interest in TKK waned a bit after the release of "Hit & Run Holiday", so the bulk of the videos, including the live cuts, were a bit meaningless to me.
Very entertaining nonetheless, I was thinking that perhaps it wasn't such a great DVD after all. That is, until I saw the last video. On the DVD it is listed as "My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult", but it is credited at the end as "Sexplosion!". This seemingly homemade video was worth the price of the DVD alone. With a soundtrack consisting of a medly of TKK hits, the video is most definitely John Waters inspired. Some sparse dialog comes across as bad acting, but in a very campy, humorous, tongue-in-cheek manner. Even more entertaining if you've followed TKK for the past 15 years or so.
A couple of notes: "Sex On Wheelz" and "Sexplosion!" are radio/club mixes, not the album versions.
