He's a man's man, that Kris Kristofferson, a guy who walks it like he talks it, with a combination of rugged good looks and a songwriter's sensitive soul--all of which is on display in Breakthrough, an hourlong concert documentary that addresses (via music and interviews) his evolution from Vietnam volunteer to disillusioned patriot whose straightforward, unaffected songs reflect a preoccupation with basic notions like freedom and justice. Performing with his band, the Borderlords, Kristofferson is apparently the feature attraction at some kind of activist benefit (although such specifics as when, where, and what for aren't provided); thus the repertoire includes not only "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Sunday Morning Coming Down" but also more explicitly political fare like "They Killed Him," "Burden of Freedom," and "Third World War" (the tumultuous events in Nicaragua and El Salvador in the '80s are of particular concern to the singer-songwriter, who adopted three Salvadoran kids). Kristofferson's songs are quite conventionally-structured, and he is not a great singer; what's more, some of the images in the film footage included here (Gandhi, Martin Luther King, the Kennedys, Tiananmen Square) are a bit on the obvious side. But that's just the point. Kristofferson is effective not because he's clever or facile, but merely because he is committed and honest. --Sam Graham

learn to ski.......2007-05-23
A must for beginning skiers. The ski instructor I had out on Colorado told me to get it. Very well done. Also very relaxing to watch. Take notes and do the exercises on the slopes.
Great ski video for those who feel they are stuck in a rut.......2007-02-14
I own the book "Breakthrough On Skis", and it has been one of the best I have ever read on how to improve your skiing. This DVD does justice to an excellent book. The scenes of experts skiing down the mountain are beautiful, and the instruction is very clear and to the point. This is the best money I've spent on improving any sport.
Want to Ski like a pro?.......2007-01-10
Lito explains how experts ski. He explains that expert skiing is not hard it is just different from the way most of us learned to ski. The video shows examples of intermediate skiers and expert skiers. The difference is very obvious once Lito has demonstrated the expert method. He uses slow motion, stopped frames, many repetitions along with salient exercises to teach your body to feel and do the correct movements. All during the video Lito's voice is explaining exactly what you are seeing and how to do it.
I purchased the Video with the hope it could get me up and going on the hills after a 32 years hiatus. The Video does not explain anything about carving skis or plastic boots. Lito explains how to ski or more specifically how to make turns when you want. The steeper the slope the better this method works.
The first half of the first time down a green run after the 32 year break was shear panic (What am I doing up here?). I had in preparation watched the Video numerous times completely and purchased new skis and boots. Lito does not recommend watching the complete video- he says do a section at a time and concentrate on the lesson in that section. Half way down the hill it began to click, I concentrated on what Lito said to do-Voila! I was making left and right parallel turns. Not the best turns on the slope but I was in control. I got down the hill the first time without a crash. My son and I skied 5 hours that first day. I dropped once. Only problem was how to get back up-those new boots that go to your knees- UGH. I had to remove a ski to get up.
I mention my son, eight, because I got him to watch the video too. After five skiing trips we are skiing all the blues. This is my son's first year on skis. He skis parallel and no poles. A commitment to my son to take him skiing got me up on the slopes again but Lito is getting me down. I honestly feel that I ski better now than I ever did so long ago. Some may say it is the new skis and boots but I believe it is the knowing "the most well kept secret of skiing" that Lito revels.
Best video of this type as of 2006.......2006-11-02
This video lacks nothing. The photography is absolutely superb with many closeups and slow motion shots of carved turns. The terms are clearly defined when first used. There is very little of the filler fluff that is typical of these instructional videos. Here you get what you pay for - a full length course with no wasted time watching bad photography of skiers. I recommend this video to anyone wanting to learn ski theory and technique from an expert instructor.
Great for beginners.......2006-01-31
My wife and I are new skiers(both around 50yrs old) and took a couple of lessons, but it wasn't until we watched this video that we felt like we "got it". And we haven't even watched the whole thing yet!

Great Help for skiers.......2007-05-12
I have been skiing for over 35 years and am always looking to improve. This DVD is is a great help for anyone who wants to perform better on skis. He explains and demonstrates in a manner that is easy to follow. And then easy to put to the test on the slopes. Thank you for another great addtion to helping us all ski better!
Very good for intermediates.......2007-03-11
I enjoyed this video. The visual demonstrations help me. I hesitated to buy this because it was created way back in 1995 and I thought it might be out of date--but it isn't. I have skied off and on for 30 years and I just took a 3 days class on bumps. What he covers in the tape, was the same as in my class and it served to reinforce what I learned. True, as the title says, it is "simplified" down to the basics. So don't expect a lot of complicated techniques. If you like learning visually, it is very pleasant. If you already are skiing bumps without problems, then don't bother.
Another great addition.......2007-02-07
I will be brief and concentrate only on bumps because after watching this tape once, I believe you will have the basic knowledge to practice powder skiing. In this video, Lito truly simplifies the technique needed not to shy away from bumps. Try and watch the tape the day before and try his technique on a few bumps only and soon you should have the needed rhythm and skills to ski bumps. If you love skiing, then there is nothing more magical then going thru bumps like its nothing...
decent for bumps, better for powder, overall disappointing.......2006-08-21
Lito's has a very "friendly" teaching style, but I have several major complaints about this DVD:
1. I don't think Lito's that good of a bump skier. If you're looking for a video to help with visualization, this is not the one for you. He has a minute or two of footage from other (excellent) bump skiers, but most of the skiing is from him, and he's an average bump skiier. As he says in the DVD, he's had an ACL repaired, and he's over 50 years old, so it's you're looking for the fast, tight, balanced technique of pro mogul skiers (as I was hoping), look elsewhere.
2. There are numerous ways to ski the bumps. Lito primarily only covers two of them: in the trough, and over the shoulder. He covers both of these in relation to speed control and picking a line.
3. Lito touches only briefly about "picking a line" when bump skiing, and he doesn't give any tips for this crucial step. This is one technique that is difficult to master, and I would've liked more tips.
There were some nice parts of this DVD:
1. The content & instruction was well organized.
2. Discussion of anticipation, and some drills for how to do anticipated turns
3. Powder tips: extension of legs into the snow to complete the turn; also use of arm lifting "trick" to equalize weight in heavy powder.
4. Some beautiful powder skiing pictures.
5. Lito has a very friendly, well-paced teaching style.
Oh, well off to look elsewhere for a more ultimate bump/mogul DVD. I would really love to find a Sybervision video for bumps/moguls.
Good stuff.......2005-04-13
I've seen other videos that explain how expert mogul skiers fly through the bumps, but that didn't exactly improve my skills. This video instead focuses on an easier and practical approach. 5 stars.

The product is what I expected. It arrived on time and in the condition advertised.
Right on the button.......2007-04-17
Best DVD I ever purchased, not just the music which was right on the button but an insight into what makes Kris Kristofferson's day: endeavoring and suceeding in making other peoples's lives worthwhile, fighting the injustices of this world and not caring who he has to fight along the way to achieve that goal. I believe he will keep fighting until the day he dies and only then will he find the freedom he's looking for, and hopefully someone will take over his reins in continuing to seek freedom for others. Best dollars I ever spent.

About Bloody Time!!!!.......2005-01-23
Well, finally fans are rewared with this DVD, not before time. I was a little hesitant about buying it, as it said it was a documentary, however it is well worth having in your collection, as no Kristofferson fan should miss this. I was happy that The Pilgram, Sunday Morning Coming Down, They Killed Him and To Beat the Devil were on this DVD. Hey Kris if you are reading this, it is about time you paid us another visit Downunder, just don't leave Perth, Western Australia off your tour list. The last time I saw Kris was on "the Highwaymen" tour some 4 years ago. As much as I enjoyed the concert, it was Kris with his antics that kept the show rolling and made it so enjoyable. Think it s about time for a full concert DVD. In the meantime, for fans, buy this DVD without hesitation!
Back in Time With a Prophet.......2004-08-30
As I watched this DVD I was taken back to a night in 1972 (don't recall the exact date) in Burris Hall on the campus of VA Tech. My husband and I were talking as the band was setting up their insruments and doing a very informal soundcheck. It took us a moment to realize that the concert had actually begun, because Kris Kristofferson had joined the Borderlords onstage with no introduction and no fanfare. Several moments passed before the mostly college crowd settled down to listen to the music. Once they did, they (along with us) were spellbound. The music was simple and captivating at the same time. The voice was unusual, (for lack of a more complimentary discriptive) but held the audience entranced. When the set was through, Kris told the audience they were free to go if they so desired, but that he and his band were going to play a few more songs because the sound in the old building was too good to waste. Needless to say, no one left.
I had already fallen in love with Kristofferson as a songwriter from the handful of hits by other artists performing his work. Hearing him sing his own songs put an entirely different perspective on his words. My husband and I were hooked from that first time, and traveled hundreds of miles to see dozens of concerts for years afterward.
As I watched the last moments of "Breakthrough," I was enveloped by the same emotion as that night in 1972. I didn't want the music to end. I'm not entirely certain if I have been taken back in time from the present, or if then I was taken into the future by a bonified pilgrim.
The one thing I am sure of is that every American needs to watch this documentary before the November presidential election, and listen closely to the words of a true prophet.

The info in Breakthrough on Skies III should be included in Breakthrough On Skies I. Much better to spend less money and buy, Expert Skier I by Harald Harb
Excellent instructional DVD with great photography.......2007-03-15
My wife and I have both improved our skiing technique and our enjoyment of skiing through the use of this DVD and the original breakthrough video. The lessons are clear and easy to follow. We watch the breakthough videos every season before we hit the slopes. Highly recommended.
This is the Breakthrough video to buy - watch it daily when skiing.......2007-01-28
As this was filmed after the advent of shaped skis this is the best of Lito Tejada-Flores videos to buy. His graceful moves down the slopes at Aspen will inspire you.
If you are trying to be a better intermediate skier watch this video every day and memorize the pictures. Then when you go down the slopes think of Lito and his wife and try to emulate them.
Practise, watch, practise, watch, ... - over and over again. Every time I watch it I see something new. I must have watched it at least 15 times and the words get a bit tedious - but I'm never bored with the skiing technique.
I'd get all three if you can afford it, but if you only get one, this is the most comprehensive and its not necessary to have the earlier videos to appreciate this one.
DVD Review.......2007-01-19
This DVD is excellent. The points can be practiced and lead to clear improvement and more enjoyment of skiing. The instruction is private lesson quality. The author does not overwhelm you with details. The lessons learned apply to all levels of skiing. A great purchase for those looking to bump up from intermediate to expert but also really good for beginners and children
Great tips for intermediate.......2007-01-12
Great tips for intermediate level. I wish I would have seen it last year before I twisted by leg - I might hv avoided it and hv more fun.

The secret to breaking through weight-loss plateaus is challenging your body to work out at a higher intensity than it's used to, to "overload" in fitness parlance. Kathy Smith's Fat Burning Breakthrough presents two 18-minute step workout "waves" that progress through ever-harder intensities, building to a peak, then gradually tapering down. The two sessions can be done singly or combined into a 46-minute workout. Smith's all-female demonstrators show modifications for higher and lower intensity throughout, and one does the whole workout without a step for a much easier version.
The choreography is more complex and the overall intensity is higher than most of Smith's videos, making this video most appropriate for intermediate exercisers. A brief weight workout follows each cardio session, and at the end is an abdominal and back routine, and a stretch.
Smith, as always, is safe and motivating, with excellent technique. Her fans appreciate that her videos contain no screaming, no frenzy, no endless counting, no distracting camera work. Although Smith is motivating, the music here is merely innocuous, barely keeping the beat. The setting is a lovely outdoor park scene. --Joan Price
Customer Reviews:
my favorite aerobic instructor and dvd.......2007-01-13
this dvd is broken down into warmup, aerobic + weights, aerobic + weights, floor work, cooldown. this is great because you can do both sets of aerobic + weight or just one and skip to the floorwork and cooldown, depending on how much time you have and your fitness level. her cues are very easy to follow and directions are clear. she is down to earth and encouraging without being overly enthusiastic, but also does a great job at keeping up the energy level. i particularly like this one because it lacks all the deep knee bends and lunges that are so tough on the knees. overall my best workout video among dozens!
A Really Great Workout!.......2006-08-24
This is the first time that I really felt motivated enough to write a review. I love this DVD. I workout often, and I have problems finding workouts that challenge me enough. I also have three children, so time is limited. This DVD solves both problems for me. A great challenging workout and I can choose the time. If I don't have much time, I only do the first wave. It is quite the workout by itself. If I have more time, I go further into wave 2. Honestly, I have yet to make it through wave 2. I've only been using it for a couple weeks, and I haven't built up enough stamina! I'm getting there. This was exactly what I needed to rev me up again!
My first review - 4 stars!.......2006-04-28
I really enjoy this tape and use it often. I particularly favor the 'zoning' or waves as she calls it. 3 zones that progressively get harder and each one definetly build on one another. The end is a killer when your 'popping' up in the middle between side squats! Defintely a worthwhile tape that uses time efficiently and pacts a lot of cardio into its zones. I think having the weight training at the ends is a good idea, but dont think you're going to use heavy weights- more for toning so stick to the lower weights.
What a Workout!.......2006-03-02
This Kathy is a frequent flyer in my VCR. The workout is intense and great for all level of fitness. I had to do this tape for several weeks before I was in good enough shape to get all the way through the Wave 3 on the second session. It really challenges you and the moves are varied so that you are working every part of your body. The weight lifting on the tape is also comprehensive and hits all the major muscle groups. Definitely get this Kathy workout!!
One of the best Kathy Smith workouts.......2006-02-19
I've used this DVD consistently for the past couple of years and it is always a good workout. If anything, sometimes I frankly don't want to work so darned hard so I don't use it as much as I should. But it is very good in terms of getting your heart pumping, challenging step moves and weight lifting.

The battle of the Dragon's Fangs was not the victory it appeared to be at the end of episode 12 (Last Exile: Discovered Attack): when Tatiana's nerve fails during the fray, she crashes in the desert with Claus. While he restores their damaged Vanship, Lavie recalls how she and Claus have spent their lives together, hoping to match the heroic deeds of their fathers by crossing the mysterious Grand Stream. Having waited so long to develop the characters and clarify the plot, the filmmakers have a lot of catching up to do. These episodes are crowded with revelations, declarations, and crises that will take some time to sort out. As personal and planetary crises grow more serious, three powerful but unexplained entities remain mortal threats: the Grand Stream, Exile, and the sinister Maestro Delphine. Finally, the story of Last Exile is becoming as interesting as the artwork. (Rated 13 and older: violence, minor profanity) --Charles Solomon

Revealations........2005-08-03
This volume of Last Exile covers alot of ground.
First off, Tatiana's falling out with Alister means that she has to spend vanship time with Claus, whom she rather unfairly can't stand. Their relationship starts to improve as they're downed and have to spend considerable time together, during which she finds out what a great guy he is.
Claus' general wonderfulness might be good for Tatiana, but it isn't so great for poor Mullin, who more-or-less gracefully gives up his crush on Lavie when he realizes that Claus will always come first with her; nevertheless remaining someone very close to her heart and her very dear friend.
Finally, we get two surprising revealations - one about Sophia, who is more than she appears to be, and another about a surprising connection Alex has with Claus and Lavie that Dio's pursuit of life, liberty and Immelman inadvertently uncovers.
What's so great is how subtly everything is presented. Mullin never says a word about what he's going through, but it's plain from his expression and body language. There's also starting to be a slow shift in Dio and Luciola's function in the story. They don't have much screentime this volume, but what they do have is telling as we're quietly reminded that Delphine is still looking for them and it isn't going to be pleasant if she finds them.
All in all, another good entry.
wow!.......2004-07-27
i could not belive how unbelivibly good this show is! when i fist watched last exile all i could say was wow! and it hasn't disapointed me yet. last exile has some of the best animation i've ever seen! and the whole plot is amazing! a real masterpiece. this show is one that almost anyone could enjoy, especialy if you are a fan of war flicks of any kind. when i finished watching V4 breakthrough all i could think was "more, i must have more!" and i can't wait for V5 to come out. i think i have to take a little time to mention the characters who are all so wonderfully perfect in personaliy and aimimation that i can truthfully say that GONZO has realy outdone itself.
Went from Great to Worse.......2004-06-19
I am a huge Last Exile fan. However, the series went downhill from here. The reason I liked Last Exile was because it was different from all the other animes. The computer-generated graphics actually make the battle scenes interesting, instead of some stupid DBZ stunt. Another thing I liked about it was there were no "bizarre love triangles" up until this point. Now it seems as though every character likes another character and that character likes everyone else...and does a few along the way. This volume, however, isn't a complete failure. The beginning of the volume starts out great, and you will watch the first episodes more than once if you buy this DVD, guaranteed. But the new "bizarre love triangle" just made everything too complicated near the end. There are enough plot twists in here that if you didn't watch this DVD, you would be missing a lot in the rest of the volumes. I recommend that you buy it, it just won't be as enjoyable as the first three.
This Series Just Keeps On Getting Better And Better!!!.......2004-06-16
Ok I have so far purchased First Move, Positional Play, Discovered Attack, and now Breakthrough. This series doesn't stop wit the smart moves they make. All the character are lovable and very interesting. This series has 4 episodes that are everything.....
ISOLATED PAWN: Claus and Tatiana are thrown together to fly a vanship to defend the Silvana from a MASSIVE attack orchestrated by Anatoray and Tatiana begins to confide in Claus when the two make an emergency landing. Tatiana's character gets much character development.
ETUDE LAVIE: A flashback when Claus and Lavie still has a family. Learn much about their past. This is a somewhat sad episode........
FAIRY CHESS: All I can say is wow. This episode is like a drama show like somethin from MTV or 90210. I was shocked at the end of this episode what Sophia does to one of the main characters. This is my favorite episode up to this point!
BREAKTHROUGH: Action packed finally of the dvd where a character dies and ya cry. I guarantee you will cry. Very sad stuff here and i ain't saying nothing more about this episode.
So in the end, I recommend this dvd and the whole series to everyone out there! Please get this show cuz it is better than any anime I have ever seen besides "Grave of the Fireflies".....
This point 4th is where the real meat of the story picks up so please support this show and get it!!!
Breaking through the ordinary.......2004-04-30
LastEXILE: Breakthrough is definitely the true breaking point of the series, although the auction for Exile and the race in the third DVD began setting the scene up. Breakthrough includes episodes 13 through 16.
13. ISOLATED PAWN - Claus and Tatiana are left alone on a desert wasteland, and struggle to find the survivors of the Sylvana.
14. ETUDE LAVIE - Basically a complete flashback of Claus and Lavie's pasts. Includes the beautiful song 'Skywriting.'
15. FAIRY CHESS - Claus and Tatiana return to the Sylvana, although the situation there has changed...
16. BREAKTHROUGH - The war between Dysis and Anatore reaches a climax, and the Guild begins to play a more major role.
I can only recommend this amazing DVD to all of you. If you've been following the series up to now, you will not be disappointed!
