By dint of the inexplicable popularity of their send-up of movie genres in the parody movies Scary Movie and Date Movie, writer/director duo Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer probably got an epic-sized bucket of cash for this hastily stitched pastiche of drive-by entertainment. There's no particular variety of movie they were sent to send up this time, unless big box-office grossers has now become a genre in and of itself. If so, Epic Movie may well qualify as part of that league itself. Very little expense has been spared to make so-called "comic" references to a slew of mostly recent blockbusters--The Chronicles of Narnia, Borat, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the X-Men and Harry Potter series, Superman Returns, Nacho Libre, and The Da Vinci Code to name a few--and it's assumed we've seen them all. In a goofy thread of a story about four orphans plucked from some of the above, battle must be done through various bastardized plots from same so that a prophecy can be fulfilled and they can assume their rightful place as rulers of a sacred land. Lots of crotch kicks, fart, urine, and vomit jokes speed by as we pass through Willie Wonka's factory and a magical wardrobe with an unusually interesting assortment of look-alikes and name actors caught up in the gag mix (some of it legitimately funny). Darrell Hammond, Crispin Glover, David Carradine, Kevin McDonald, Carmen Electra, Kal Penn put on game (and sometimes gamy) faces, and it's definitely a hoot to watch comedy improv alums Fred Willard and Jennifer Coolidge as Aslo the Lion and the White Bitch do battle in a Narnian good vs. evil character smackdown. As lame as you already expect a movie like this to be, anything that can throw together an homage to C.S. Lewis alongside MTV's Punk'd in less than 90 minutes can't be all bad. --Ted Fry

This is perhaps officially THE worst movie I have ever had the displeasure of viewing. Uncreative and dull, Epic Movie does nothing more than throw distasteful gags and humorless jests to the screen, hoping that the mess will somehow stick. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Don't bother with this stinker. Try Pirates or Borat! instead.

Insanely, stupid........2007-06-21

Epic Movie takes a hodgepodge of good and bad movies and mixes them all together in an insanely, stupid 80 minute attempt to make people laugh. I did chuckle a little, but just a little. Overall, this movie is, well, rather stupid. In fact, it is one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen.

(Maybe I just don't appreciate this type of humor!)

As bad as you might expect.......2007-06-18

Nobody goes into a movie like this thinking they will see great art, but I was hoping for at least a modicum of cleverness and originality. I didn't find it here. This movie just isn't very funny, not even in a stupid, toilet humor kind of way. I also thought it a bit weird that the main film parodied was "The Chronicles of Narnia," a film I'm sure many little kids saw. There is no way an 8 year old should see this movie. There is way too much sexual innuendo for that. I'm sure some of the target audience for this movie saw "Narnia," but I think it would have made more sense to parody the "Lord of the Rings" films, since they are geared for an older audience. I can think of a lot of stupid movies that are genuinely funny, but this isn't one of them.

I can't stand the fact that people have no sense of humor. Oh darn, someone is making fun of a great movie. Who cares. Did anyone look at the big picture on this movie or am I the only one that cares. So they make fun of a few big movies. Yeah i did think some parts of the movie were stupid but what do I know. So before you write a review on a movie, pay attention to the actual movie, not the movies being dissed on.

This movie was completely stupid.It was pointless. All it does is make fun of great movies like The Chronicles Of Narnia and Pirates of the Carribean. Not funny at all. Avoid.

The big-time sound of Fred Hammond, described here as "the architect of urban praise and worship," echoes the influence of a variety of old skool pop-R&B stars: Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Earth, Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, even Steely Dan. But the fact that Hammond's music is derivative (whose isn't?) detracts not at all from this exemplary contemporary gospel concert by the Dallas-based singer-musician. Hammond, who played bass for the Winans and was a founding member of the popular group Commissioned, fronts a large ensemble in the 97-minute show, joined by the enraptured congregation at the Potter's House, his Dallas church. This is not your grandfather's gospel music; the funky, slapping bass and hard rock guitar, the lyrics projected on a screen behind the stage, and the slick video production (featuring various film effects and the kind of kinetic editing used for pop concert productions) would likely bewilder fans of pioneers like the Rev. James Cleveland; so would Hammond's references to "old school jams" and hip language like "I know it might be hard to get your praise on." Shoot, there's even an American Idol element, as past winner Ruben Studdard ("He's looking sugar sharp," says Fred) joins the crew for a couple of numbers. But there's one element common to all good gospel, and that's kind of relentless energy and uplifting spirit that would get an atheist excited. Put simply, songs like "L.O.U.D.," "This is the Day," and many others among the 15 presented here rock. In the end, getting your praise on isn't so tough after all. --Sam Graham

Awesome worship experience.......2007-02-13

We've already heard the CD played numerous times on the radio. Well, the visual experience is even better! The worship is awesome and God gets all the glory. The DVD's extended version of "Blessed" will usher you right into the presence of the Lord. Also, I can't watch "All Things" without going into a tear filled praise. I highly recommend this DVD. It's a must have for those who want to worship in Spirit and in truth.

I recommend this DVD for those of us who can't see Fred and RFC live in concert! I am a black American migrant in Sydney, Australia and what I miss most is being able to praise the Lord in the atmosphere I was raised in, the black American "get-down and roll down the aisle prasing the Lord" !

Good miniseries. I liked it........2007-01-29

I liked this miniseries. I remember the making of this back in the early '80's. I am from Arkansas and the entire show was filmed in Arkansas. I recognize a lot of Arkansas people in the background behind the real actors. For instance, the University of Arkansas Athletic Director and former Razorback football coach, Frank Broyles, is the doctor who pronounces Lincoln dead near the end. Also, a Little Rock TV reporter, Chuck Dovish, played the part of the injured soldier that John Geyser's girlfriend helped at Bull Run. He the one who says "God bless you, miss." My uncle was an extra in the movie too. He is the tall, skinny soldier who stumbles as he gets up off the ground in the prison scene near the end when the John Geyser tries to get his brother, Luke, out of prison. Yep, that's my Uncle Milton! I liked the show, although it was a bit unbelievable at times. Let's face it, John Geyser couldn't be at Gettysburg and Vicksburg at the same time. Both happened at the same time in July of 1863. And, Lincoln didn't give his famous speech until later on in the Fall. He gave the speech months after Vicksburg had fallen. And, true, the hairstyles were very early '80's on many of the soldiers. They didn't spend as much time and money on facial hair as they did on Gettysburg years later. It was worth my money, just the same.

WOW when they say Recut they really mean CUT.......2006-10-13

The Marketing of this DVD set is so deceiving. I was thrilled when I saw a new recut version, thinking that there would be deleted scenes, maybe an alterante ending, you know, all those extra goodies. They should have called this the CUT TO SHREDS VERSION because they lopped off two hours of footage and this version is just a chopped up MESS. I returned my set and I advise others to do so also

a stunning waste of a good movie. cut by some 2 hours or more this is just a pure waste of time and disc when the complete miniseries is out there to be had . this is just junk!!!!!

Was there a call for a reverse special edition of this great miniseries. Full screen, poor video and audio, and a hacked up story. The original uncut version is still available, so do not waste your money on this. There was no reason to cut up this miniseries. It was only 7 hours to start with, so it was not exactly bloated. Stay away from this version.

Circus is an appropriate title for this busy British three-ring caper film. John Hannah is the amiable ringmaster, a gambling junkie and "the smartest man I know" according to all his acquaintances. Which doesn't quite explain why everyone targets him as a patsy in their elaborate scams and schemes. There are plots aplenty here: frumpy accountant Peter Stormare hires Hannah to murder his wife and then videotapes the deed for collateral in a blackmail scheme. Upwardly mobile thug Brian Conley pressures Hannah to run his casino while plotting his demise. Sexy Famke Janssen puts on her slinky best femme fatale pose as Hannah's girlfriend with a questionable past, playing the players against one another. That past catches up with her when Fred Ward, an old partner in crime she abandoned holding the bag years back, arrives for payback. Almost too clever for its own good, Circus is an ingeniously engineered mercenary free-for-all thick with secret alliances, double-crosses, hidden identities, and a plot that twists into a new direction every five minutes. What it misses in all the self-conscious plotting is a human equation. Hannah's grinning, easygoing attitude and Janssen's sultry air of mystery help fill out the characters, but the only real satisfaction coming at the end of this crack caper is its sheer logistic perfection. --Sean Axmaker
