Thirty songs, spread out over two discs and well over two and a half hours, with fine performances, great sound, and good visual direction: it's all here on Farewell 1 Tour, a documentary of the Eagles' 2004 concert in Melbourne, Australia. At one point, the veteran band seemed unlikely to even make it to the new millennium, but here they are, mostly intact, with a string of hits dating back more than three decades. The majority of them are performed here, from the earliest ("Take It Easy," "Desperado," "Peaceful Easy Feeling") through "Hotel California" and "Life in the Fast Lane" and right up to "Love Will Keep Us Alive" (from Hell Freezes Over, their most recent recording with new material on it); there are also hits from Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Joe Walsh's solo careers, and a few new songs as well, including Walsh's "One Day at a Time" (an earnest ode to his new-found sobriety) and "Hole in the World," Frey and Henley's moving, almost gospel-tinged reaction to the events of 9/11/01. Guitarist Don Felder, who split acrimoniously with the band in 2001, isn't much missed, as replacement Steuart Smith plays the parts just as Felder did--i.e., pretty much exactly as they were recorded (indeed, pristine recreations of the studio versions of their songs has always been a hallmark of the Eagles' live shows). As for the somewhat cheeky title, well, there's always been a certain smugness to the Eagles' sense of humor, and it's no different this time, as Frey doesn't even pretend that there won't be a Farewell 2 Tour in the future. And why not? These are good songs, played beautifully by the quartet (plus supplemental musicians) to audiences that love them. Great concert.......2007-06-05

Pop this baby in your DVD player and turn on the DTS. This is a great concert all around, these guys can still play and sing. Watch for many of their classic songs such as New Kid In Town and Desperado, as well as some new ones.

The real treat though is the sound, the harmonies are crisp, and the music is very clear. Bring on Farewell II!

A fabulous documentation of The Eagles much heralded Farewell I Tour of 2003, from the performance in Melbourne, Australia, the generous 2 Disc set includes a great amount of Eagle classics and favourites, 2 exceptional new tracks from their upcoming 2007 studio album, and a thrilling assortment of the best of each respective member's solo work from the 70s-90s. The Eagles are in fine vocal form, showcasing the famous four-part harmonies that graced some of their best recordings. The performances, instrumentally, are extremely impressive, and the extra muscle of the newly added four-man brass section adds an amazing new flavor to the group's classic sound. The picture and audio quality are all first rate, and one can only hope that this is a first in a long series of live sets available in the next decade of Eagle music.

One of the greatest rock bands now on HD DVD........2007-06-28

The Eagles are one of my favorite rock bands. I was never fortunate enough to enjoy their music in person but this HD DVD brings me pretty close to that experience. I was tempted to get the DVD version some months ago but glad I held out. The classics are all here - Tequila Sunrise, Love Will Keep Us Alive, You Belong To The City, Dirty Laundry, Hotel California, Desperado, etc. The Audio/Video recording is superb and the Menu organizes the songs/chapters very well. This has got to be one of the best concert HD DVDs out there. A perfect way to show off your home theater.

An excellent concert & to be enjoyed in HD is another plus. The Eagles actually seem better in their old age now. It must be maturity. Although, the HD DVD did not have camera angle shots as an added bonus, it was still produced well & is an excellent item for the DVD library.

I bought this specifcally because it said HD DVD. It was a gift for my mother and she owns a HD dvd player. It not only did not work in the HD DVD but on none of the other 5 DVD players we tried.

After watching and listening to " Hell frezzes over" the standard in audio-video, concert watching and superstars jamming has been changed forever.
You know what I am talking about...however with the "Farewell tour" is just keep rising the bar...how high can it go?
Well the eagles have been rising even higher. Their wings have no knowledge of getting tired...they can push higher and higher...
On the recording part (audio and video) the HD shines in every aspect.
Boy I love HD! And of course I love Eagles! Nice symbiosis between the two!

We were not Eagles fans when they (and we) were younger, but after listening to this concert many times we definitely are now! It's 2 hours and 40 minutes long and they sound great on every song. Both the audio and the video are fantastic.

If her 2002 tour really was her last--and after being "an evil frickin' diva for 40 frickin' years," as she puts it, she just might mean it--Cher has definitely left us something to remember her by. In the course of this 92-minute concert (plus loads of extra features), she wears enough different costumes and wigs to outfit a small (if rather odd) town, surrounds herself with dancers and acrobats galore, shows clips from her old TV series, and even plays all the roles in a delightful mini-version of West Side Story (one of the extras). Oh, and she sings too, covering everything from the Sonny & Cher years to her early solo career and her renaissance as a disco diva via "Believe." This is the most spectacular DVD i've seen so far, not to mention that is the most complete, a 2 DVD package with the best of the best artist out there. He managed to make the best concert you could ever see and also you get all the videos from all the songs he played in that concert which are like 20, plus interviews and other amazing stuffs. An excellent concert by the original Shadows covering the complete history of their music presented as close as possible to the original recordings. Not only were the arrangements original but they changed guitars to match those used on the recordings. Three hours of great music. A great value.

Great Shadows performances.......2007-03-09

Most (if not all) of the Shadows greatest hits and popular tunes are included in this concert. Some tunes are performed with Acoustic guitars (more jazzie). The Shadows are not really a singing group. The songs they sang were not too good (especially the Cliff Richard tunes). Overall, this is a must have DVD for Shadows Fans. I love this concert DVD.

This DVD of their concert allows Shadows fans the world over, who have never seen them live, to really appreciate the mastery of the original 3 guys, Hank, Tony and Brian. The music of today should be so pure and unprenentious. Truly wonderful. Well produced and the sound is great. The interviews at the end give the background to this great group who have influenced so many aspiring musicians.

If you are The Shadows fan, no doubt about it... get it.
It worth the money. 3 hours of best Shadows music, sound quality is great on my home theather. Audio choice: Dolby stereo, Dolby digital 5.1 and DTS. I use DTS it sound like you are there in the concert. Sound quality I rate it 8 out of 10. Pictue quality on my 50 inche HDTV, I rate it 5 out of 10.
This DVD is awesome, I will watch it again and again or listen to it again and again. I wish Amazon carry more of The Shadows DVD. So far this is the only one.

Just fantastic! Flawless!.......2007-02-04

I've been a Shad's fan for over 40 years and deplored the fact that the US was the only place in the universe that had never heard of them. I still have most of the original 45's, quite a few LP's and, I believe every CD they ever recorded. (I also have a Fiesta Red Stratocaster and the white 40th anniversary Hank Marvin Burns (also used in the concert)). The DVD is just beautifully recorded and filmed; the cuts sound very close to the originals, quite a feat for a live concert. Hank is at his best. A must see!

Words cannot describe this!.......2007-06-16

The Eagles, what else can one say?
These guys are unbelievably good, their music holds very high quality standards, it's always played very well and they (much like Pink Floyd, the other unbelievably good band) manage to maintain their high quality even live, and this DVD is a brilliant demonstration of it.
I am incredibly inspired by these guys, their songwriting, their melodies, their arrangements, and so on....
After I heard this version of "I Can't Tell You Why" I was in tears it was so beautiful (although I liked Hell Freezes Over's version of the song much better because of Felder's solos), and I got chills down my spine for the incredible live version of Henley's "Boys Of Summer", but really to mention favorites here is purely pointless, for this is a rare gem where EVERY SINGLE TRACK is good, and it is extremely rare, at least for a seasoned musician with a very refined ear like me, to find disks that are this good from beginning to end.
Only two regrets, the absence of Don Felder and the fact that this DVD isn't also a CD, so I am incapable of playing it in my car.
This CD should have 10 stars, and not only 5.

Fantastic collection.......2006-12-26

This collection is a must have for any Eagles fan. The music is just as timeless today as it was back in the seventies. When you look in the audience and see three generations of fans all enjoying this music, you know you're onto something good. Will today's crop of "cool" performers, the rappers, the hip hoppers, the industrial rockers, still be filling stadiums with fans 30 years from now? A resounding NO! Will anyone even remember them? Probably not. But the Eagles still got it, and are limited only by their age, what with all them approaching the big 6-0. You won't be disappointed with this DVD.

Another Alabama Rip-Off!!.......2003-10-14

Just like the recently released CD of the same name, this DVD DOES NOT include any live material. It is a collection of 6 of their music videos which have been previously released elsewhere! Why they insist on labeling their mechandise with the "Farewell Tour" logo is beyond me. They should stop misleading their fans into thinking that it is actually LIVE material from their recent tour and label it for what it really is!!

This is a great DVD even though it only has a handful of videos on it. The video and audio quality are great. Between this and the already released Alabama Greatest Video Hits DVD, there are still several videos missing. Pass It On Down, Song of the South, Tar Top, She & I, High Cotton, Angels Among Us, In The Mood, She's Got That Look In Her Eyes, & How Do You Fall In Love are just to name a few. Hopefully, this release is just to hold us over until a full Alabama Videography is released on DVD.
