I was disappointed in this train series. I purchased it for my grandson, who loves train visuals. This is a narrative format, which bores him.

my 3 1/2 yr old son saw these videos at his Pops house and fell in love with them. He is obsessed with trains and watches these fabulous, real live footage of trains traveling the country. The scenery is beautiful and he is learning a lot. Will definetly purchase more train videos in the future!

well you could have a video of a fishtank on your screen for background noise or you could watch a nice cross country trip on some of americas forgotten tracks.

My interest in this is purely aestheic - I don't really care about train models or stats... what I like is the beauty of the land - though sometimes they could have cleaned windshields.

I love how ugly the east is though - Most of where the main travel video goes is from washington out to ohio through what is best described as the buttcrack of the country.
It doesn't really get pretty till the mountains of virginia.

Still, seeing the decay and mess that is the back of industrial america can give some pause.

Man's hands on the nation as Plowden once showed is remarkable.

good for insomnia.

A Real Eye Opener.......2007-03-24

I watch them in Wrestlemania, Summer Slam, Survivor series and the Royal rumble. However, where did these wrestlers come from and how did they get started? Just like any other profession, before you make it to the big leagues you have to pay your dues somewhere. The AWA Wrestling association so you how the wrestlers got there start and the dues that they had to paid to before making it big in the WWF. Sergeant Slaughter and Jerry Blackwell take on the Road Warriors Hawk and Animal for the AWA Tag Team Championship. The Incredible Hulk Hogan takes on Mr. Saito and Dr. Dave Shultz in a handy cap match. You'll here Mean gene Okerland name mention as the time keeper. Rick Martel and Tito Santana face of against Jim Brunzell and Greg Gagne for some AWA Gold inside of a steel cage. You'll also see the East and West Connection also know as Jessie The Body Ventura and Adorable Adrian Adonis. Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwenkle takes on terry Allen who went on to WCW as Magnum TA. Now let's talk about the legend of Andre the Giant. Andre was born may 19th 1946. His grandmother measured in at 7 foot 8 inches. At age 12, Andre was already a very big boy standing 6'4 and weigh over 200lbs. Andre was working as furniture maker when he was approached about being a wrestler. Andre started wrestling when he was 17 years old. At the age of 19, Andre was over 7 feet tall and 335 lbs. One of Andre matches in AWA was against Jerry Blackwell who weighs over 473 lbs himself. This was a $5000.00 slam match on 11-4-80 with the first wrestler to slam the other gets the cash. Andre was introduced to his first battle royal on October 17 1982, where the winner of this match gets 100 thousand dollars. Some of the wrestlers that were in the ring at the time were jerry Blackwell, Jessie Ventura, Bobby Heenan, Nick Bockwenkle, and Ken Patera. Then on November 11th 1982 Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant teamed up together to face the Nick Bockwenkle, Ken Patera, Dungam and Heenan himself. Wahoo McDaniel also made his debut in the AWA in 1969 before he went to WCW also. Other wrestlers that came up through the AWA were The Fabulous Freebirds, Curt Henning, Rick Flair, and Magnum TA. Larry Zbysko, Superstar Billy Graham. If you think that Vince McMahon is the only owner to get into a ring then you never saw Verne Gagne wrestle. I believe that most of Vince McMahon's ideas in the early years were taken from the AWA. At Wrestlemania, two when Rowdy Roddy Piper faces Mr. T in a boxing match that idea had already been used by the AWA. The idea of the Heenan family also was used in the AWA. Vince didn't make Hulk Hogan the legend that he is because he also use the same name in the AWA it was also funny watching Mean Gene Okerland move up the ranks from a time keeper, to doing locker-room interviews to doing wrestling commentary. The match between the Andre the Giant and Big John Studd at Wrestlemania one as the 15 thousand dollar slam match also came from AWA. If you think about it, most of McMahon idea came from other wrestling organization. If you really watch this DVD, you'll fine that if it wasn't for the AWA, I don't think the WWF would be where it's at today. In addition, you see that some of the wrestlers were in two different organizations also. For instant Ric flair was wrestling in the AWA at the same time that he was wrestling for World Championship Wrestling. Overall, I give this picture 10 weasel stars because it was such a revelation as far as understanding the world of professional wrestling back in the late 70s and early 80s.

Watch before you judge.......2007-03-08

This was a very going over of AWA. You would never believe of the stars that got their starts here before going on to bigger places and becoming bigger stars. The likes of Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Jesse "the Body" Ventura, "Superstar" Billy Graham and the list goes on. However after watching this you can make your judgment of whether to judge Vince Mcmahon on whether he killed the AWA or it was something else. I am so glad that the WWE has decided to put out dvds like this and others to show the new and more recent fans that it wasn't always the WWE and the stars from the past that we should never forget about. I hope to see more dvds like this soon.

Best DVD of sports entertainment.........2007-02-09

It's the best entertainment sport of wrestling of AWA back in the 1960's where it first started by a promoter of Verne Gagne. He is one the best promoters of all time and he will not going to be forgotten even though he is not here physically. Even though he is heaven and he will be remembered as a hall of famer when he recevied his award ceremony and to all the people out there believed in him for those who does respect him and his legacy that he first created and his heart will be blessed in him where he is up in heaven now. As though he is the fine promoter that lived inside of his heart of all time.

A great look back at the AWA,with my favorite parts being the comments and imput from the likes of Brunzell,Von Rashke,Bockwinkle,ect.Great old matches are shown,also.I can't give this 5 stars,though,because hardly a mention of these great mid-late 70's superstars...Black Jack Lanza,King Kong Mosca,Lord Alfred Hayes,Bobby Duncum,Billy Robinson,Pedro Morales,ect.Hey Vince,how about a volume two?

My Favorite Wrestling Ever...........2007-01-17

The years 1975-80 were my prime wrestling watching years. There was and still are no personalities like the AWA stable of stars: "Mad Dog" Vachon; "Baron" Von Raschke; Nick Bockwinkel; The Crusher. These guys are the true spirit of wrestling. It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyways)- It was a different time of wrestling. I still enjoy some of todays wrestling and personalities, but it's not quite the same. This DVD is a small dream come true for us who were there and actively following these titans. I loved the documentary, although I agree with a few others here in wishing there was more. More matches from the 70's is my only minor complaint. They could also have a whole DVD of just "war stories" from Brunzel, Raschke, etc. Also, another DVD could be filled with the pre- and post-match interviews, which are almost better than the matches themselves. All in all a fascinating DVD. If you weren't 10 years old in 1976, I doubt you may relate to my yearning for more Pomero Firpo "The Wild Bull of the Pampass," but "that is all the people need to know!"

The greatest jumps of the legendary motorcycle daredevil are contained in Evel Knievel's Spectacular Jumps, which also includes footage of Knievel commenting on specific stunts, the injuries he sustained, and his motivations for following such a bizarre and dangerous occupation. A total of 11 jumps are shown, including the bone-crushing disaster at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas that left Knievel unconscious for a month and his ill-conceived attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon in a small rocket. An unavoidable flaw with this production is that the film footage of Knievel in his prime looks quaint compared to today's multi-angle saturation coverage of daredevil events. On the other hand, the vintage early-'70s clips do capture the oddball carnival atmosphere in which Knievel performed. People paid to see him risk his life, and he'd put on quite a show, arriving in a rhinestone-studded leather cape and getting the crowd revved by performing a series of wheelies prior to the big event. Motorcycle jumps don't take long, of course, and this entire DVD clocks in at only 30 minutes. And while some perspective on Knievel's life might have made for a more interesting production, his comments about the jumps and a few vintage clips of him speaking to the crowds provide a glimpse of his eccentric personality. --Robert J. I grew up in the 1970's and Evel Knievel was one of my idols so I am going to be a bit biased. If you were a fan of the King of the Stuntman then this is a must have. My only disppointment with the DVD is that it is too short. I was hoping for a two or three looks at each jump. Of course, you can rewind it and even slow it down on DVD. It would have been neat to spotlight not only his jumps but how he breathed life into IDEAL Toys with all the Evel Knievel toys that came out in the 1970's. If only I would have kept all of those toys!!!

The VHS movie that puts it all in perspective.......2003-05-29

I remember watching most of his jumps on Tv when Wide World Of Sports was on ABC. Several clips of his most famous triumphs and disasters including one of the most famous crashes in history.
His statements of anti drugs and alcohol in this video are a great message for everyone.
My only problem was I wish it could have been a little more insightful on his off-stage life, but Evel was always that way.
Love me on stage , but leave me alone afterwards.

Hard to find a good "NORWAY" tour on DVD.......2006-12-12

I am a Norwegian living in the US. I bought this DVD to show it to visitors and friends here in the Memphis area. I was very disappointed after watching it the first time. The Norwegian classical music is great, but the quality of the filming is not very impressive. It is not even "half way done" I think. You are much better off buying a book with nice pictures and actual text in it since there is no commentary on this DVD.

This is a beautiful, artist video. Watching it is like walking thru a museum of wonderful photographs. I'm going to Europe this summer and Norway will be my first stop.

Damaged - no stars.......2005-02-09

I was so disappointed to receive this DVD. First it took 5 attempts to get my player to "read" it. Then when it finely did play, pixils were visable, the music was skipping and a full 2 minutes into it, it stopped dead. I never heard any narration - maybe there isn't supposed to be, which my husband and I thought strange for a travel DVD. He also thought what we did see didn't amount to much. There isn't much up to date tourist information about Norway out there. And apparently there still isn't !

The DVD looked as though the person filming was an amateur. The camera angles were odd and the places of interest were questionable. I am planning a trip to Norway this spring and was hoping to gain some insight into a few destinations with this DVD but it didn't focus on any points of interest. The music was pretty but this is not a DVD I would recommend if you want to see Norway!

So save your money and just buy this one 3 disk set. You get 18 15-minute episodes, plus three 30-minute Holiday-themed episodes (Halloween, Christmas, New Years) for a total of 6 hours of viewing.

My review of L.A. Riot Specacular.......2006-12-05

Not since South Park and Police Academy has comic satire been so bold, relentlessly offensive and outrageously funny. From the very first scene when white cops bet on the ethnicity of the driver of a car they pursue, you know what exactly you're in for. One of the officers, Powell (Estevez), claims that betting on black is always a safe bet. His partner, offensively-named Koon (McDonald), bets on Spanish. They start beating on Rodney King (Carter) who comes out from the vehicle while Snoop Dogg emerges form the sidelines a narrator--and a rapper. Back at the police station, there's even more racism as an officer debates on what derogatory name they should call black people. Soon enough, Asians, Jews, and Spanish people also get stereotyped and insulted, especially in satirical news stories. To add insult to injury, a TV crew follows the events for an Entertainment Show and, in a hilarious scene, the deaths and injuries increase along with the Nielson Ratings. Jonathan Lipnicki, best known as the little kid from Jerry Maguire, has a cameo as the son of an anti-Semitic father. George Hamilton also briefly shows up as a wealthy man--what a stretch!-- from Beverly Hills who tries to call order to all the chaos. Admittedly, the humor does get a bit redundant toward the end with more of the same ethnic jokes. Fortunately, writer/director Marc Klasfeld keeps the movie going at a fast, energetic pace that doesn't overstay its welcome at a running time of 80 minutes.
