There's little doubt that Bryan Adams devotees will delight in this 15-song, 55-minute offering from the raw-voiced singer-songwriter. More surprising is the likelihood that those with little interest in his work will also find much to admire here--surprising insofar as Adams, who despite a lengthy career and numerous hits is essentially a journeyman artist, adapts easily and impressively to the Unplugged format. The addition of some unusual instruments (mandolin, Irish pipes and whistles) and a string section conducted by Michael Kamen and composed of young players from Juilliard adds texture and interest to songs like "18 Til I Die" (with a fiery solo by one of the violinists) and "When You Love Someone." There are occasional missteps, and Adams's songs, while catchy, are hardly the world's most original. But by and large the singer, his band, and the supporting cast make this a very enjoyable ride. --Sam Graham

5 out of 5 stars Top Quality DVD.......2006-06-09

I was not used to buying Musical DVDs and brought this one to cross the 25$ mark for availing free shipping. I was amazed with the quality of the sound heard through the DTS out and also realised that all these years I was missing listening to live shows. This is Bryan at his best and listening to this DVD make you feel that you are listening to him live. Each and every instrument can be heard separately and both the video and audio recording is outstanding. The involvement of all the members in the troop on instruments and vocal is well captured and I found very difficult to realise that I was not with them atleast as a spectator. Watching this DVD also made me realise that my investment on a Harman Kardon receiver and Klipsch speakers were more than justified. A must buy for any music lover.

5 out of 5 stars Superb MTV Unplugged performance.......2005-05-01

Love this DVD. Watched it 4 times already and it is as good as the first time. I compared the songs performed on his unplugged set to their original counterparts and all the songs sound entirely different, which why I am such a fan of unplugged performances.

Best songs performed on this DVD are "Summer of 69", "Can't Stop This Thing We Started", "I'm Ready", "Back To You", and "18 Til I Die".

Worth every penny. Please get it!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing...........2005-04-22

OK, so its like when you see the younger bands in concert for months altogether and quietly and suddenly the established artist brings out something like this - you know that you can tell the difference. The only thing that I didn't like was his newer version of 'Fits you good'. Those who have heard the original version will probably agree. Besides that one minor glitch, its just an awesome performance.

5 out of 5 stars Bryan Adams never sounded so good.......2004-01-27

I have really come to enjoy the unplugged atmosphere. The indoor concerts sound so much better when transferred to DVD than a large stadium concert. Bryan and his band (original members from the late 80's are all here) are at their peak and you feel like they are in your living room. This isn't a 3 musician set. It's a very full sound with an entire orchestra to help.
Some people, however, may not care for this DVD. There are many of his top songs missing from this. It does however include Summer of '69, Heaven, Cuts Like a Knife, Can't Stop this Thing We Started, etc. Because of the unplugged effect, some of his songs sound rather "bluesy" but more important is you can tell his band is having fun.
Buy it as these MTV Unplugged series are going up in value. Many others are out of print and I'm sure this one will also be soon.

3 out of 5 stars No excuse not being produced in 5.1!.......2002-07-21

Although the music is good, I was very disappointed that it took until 2002 to release this DVD and it wasn't in Dolby Digital 5.1. His VHS tapes were better. Wait until they produce it in 5.1.

Since it's doubtful that Bryan Adams is going to appear in your living room, guitar in hand, to serenade you with "I'm Ready," check out MTV Unplugged: Ballads. Featuring eight heart-hurts-to-listen love songs, this compilation features artists for whom being unplugged just underlines their songwriting talent. "Let Her Cry" by Hootie and the Blowfish becomes a plaintive plea for a lost love. Paul Simon's distinctive voice is aided by a jazzy piano-drum combo in "Still Crazy After All These Years." Known for their harmonies, Boyz II Men soar with "Please Don't Go," and Tony Bennett, who has never needed to be plugged in, shows how it's done with "It Had to Be You." Accompanying herself on the accordion, Sheryl Crow sings a heartbreaking version of "Strong Enough" followed by Chris Isaak crooning a smooth "Somebody's Crying" before Eric Clapton ends the show with a slow, smoldering "Old Love." Included on the DVD are profiles and discographies of all the artists, producers' notes, and interviews with five of the bands, and an option for Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. --Dana Van Nest
