Customer Reviews:
I want to be more pleased with this.......2006-06-07
........but I can't. Seriously, putting the same videos on two different collections? The Dimmu Borgir video is a very good video, but to lead off with it in the number one spot twice?..... Nuclear Blast also got the track listing wrong on their own site. I was expecting to see Nightwish, like on the site, but No. (unless there are different "versions"). Ok, there is good stuff here like Soilwork, In Flames, and Mnemic, not to mention some classics like Hammerfall and Iron Maiden. Honestly though, this was not a good purchase. The first and third are great. Unless you have to have the whole collection, pass on this. You're not missing much.
Not as good as Volume 1, but still quite strong........2005-01-02
In spite of a few minor production flaws, the second monsters of metal DVD is quite good, maybe not as good as the first, but excellent. Having received both for Christmas this year, I will have to say that in spite of some issues with the picture for certain videos and extra features, this contains all the positive aspects of volume 1: videos less likely to be played on Headbanger's Ball (which is still awesome anyway, and a few of the videos here have been shown on that show,) classics, and cool extras. There are a few repeats, but not enough to say that it's the same thing as volume 1 in a different package. The only videos from volume 1 that are on this set are:
Dimmu Borgir "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse"
Fireball Ministry "Flatline"
Destruction "Desecrators (Of The New Age)"
Hypocrisy "Roswell 47"
And the select few videos aired on the ball are (in addition to the ones from Dimmu and Fireball Ministry:)
Mnemic "Liquid"
In Flames "The Quiet Place"
Kataklysm "As I Slither"
Nevermore "Enemies of Reality"
Iced Earth "The Reckoning"
Arch Enemy "We Will Rise"
My top 4 favorite videos from disc 1 that are new are:
Edguy "King Of Fools"
Mnemic "Liquid"
Re:Aktor "Damage Zone"
Children of Bodom "Sixpounder"
My top 4 favorite videos from disc 2 that are new are:
Soilwork "Light The Torch"
Stratovarius "I Walk To My Own Song"
Arch Enemy "We Will Rise"
Dark Tranquillity "Monchromatic Stains" (which is only new to the series-it came out about two years before this did.)
"METAL IS FOREVER, IN EVERY SINGLE MATTER!"-Primal Fear
Waste of 25 bucks.......2004-10-21
i just got this yesterday. i must say its one of the most dissapointing DVDs ive ever bought. i wrote a review for Vol 1 saying that some of the videos were old and the artists had come out with more current videos even before Vol 1 was released. i was stupid and didnt look at the tracklist before i bought Volume 2 because i had faith in Nuclear Blast and thought the newer videos would be on here (actually i didnt have my glasses. but i still had the faith!). wheres Hypocrisy - Eraser?? wheres Children Of Bodom - Needled 24/7?? wheres the newer better version of In Flames - The Quiet Place?? etc etc etc. also i hate how theres some videos from Volume 1 on here. it makes me think theyre struggling and just throw anything on here to sell copies. so many of these videos are just lame, even the good bands. they need to stop using all those corny ass computer effects, they dont make the video look any better or more expensive. they also dont tell you that a lot of the videos are cheap live-filmed videos set to the album version of the song, i HATE that. its also irritating to me when they film these with cheap video cameras and then put grainy effects over them to make them look like film. it still looks like video, idiots. i just dont like 99 percent of the bands on here. whats happening with metal today? so much of it just sucks. i woudlnt even call most of these bands 'metal'. a lot of the videos are older than the ones on Vol 1. and where the hell is all the Malevolent Creation? theyre on Nuclear Blast now. and wheres all the Death?! they had good videos. check em out at emptywords.org . the only good videos on here to me are, Dimmu Borgir and Hypocrisy (which are on Vol 1), the Immortal video is pretty weak but cool to have. the Children Of Bodom video is weak for the weakest song on the Hatecrew album. the Arch Enemy vid is alright (except for whatshernames stupid outfit and poses), and thats it. the rest is just filler. i was pissed at myself for buying this. but hell, check out the track list and if you like the lame bands, go for it. Vol 1 was a waste of money too but way better. try downloading.
----
PS: i just noticed that the tracklist on amazon says number 1 is EKTOMORF (whoever the hell they are). its not on mine, its Dimmu Borgir - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse (just like Vol 1)
Something for all Metalheads.......2004-10-11
I acquired this DVD on something of a whim and must say, I am rather impressed. The diversity of artists is superb - ranging from operatic death metal (Therion) to the rather rockier (Farmer Boys) there's something here for any metal fan. I personally am more a power metal/operatic fan, with a distaste of grindcore/death metal and with classic power metal acts like Helloween, Rage, Savatage, Edguy, Stratovarius etc, I was much pleased. Other bands that stood out to me were Soilwork for their twisted and bizarre video, "Light the Torch" and the rather weird In Extremo who combine a semi-industrial rock sound with bagpipes and a harp. There is also a pleasing mixture of well known acts and lesser known bands. All in all, a good collection of music videos I shall never see on tv! Although I will note that I have the European release, which appears to have some tracks not mentioned above.
