1 out of 5 stars Please don't waste ur money or time.......2006-03-11

Take it from me, I have already done it and it is not worth it...First of all, it is unauthorized, poor quality film, and is just a bunch of pics put together and is narrated by someone who has the nerve to not even know how to pronounce certain words!!!!
When she mispronounced (the narrator) and I was getting annoued with the poor quality film, I just turned it off!! I didnt even watch the whole thing and I won't!!

I only gave it one star because I couldnt give it 0!!!

she has one or two songs I've caught myself humming but what has she done that's so special that makes her the princess? Maybe I should read a book on computers and call myself a computer engineer when I'm done!

2 out of 5 stars RAISE TO PRINCESS OF HIP HOP.......2004-11-23

I was desparate to see a music dvd by this talented young lady and was very disappointed with this poor quality dvd with still pictures and bad lighting. It was interesting to hear the running commentory but it would be better to actually hear ashanti singing and doing what she does best.

Produced by Queen Latifah and Bruce Willis, The Hip Hop Project is a response to those who describe hip-hop as negative. (Some is, some isn't.) Art Start founder Scott Rosenberg and his partner, Matt Ruskin, spent four years documenting the work of this New York-based program, and the result is a film bursting with positivity. The focus of their attention is rapper/social worker Chris "Kazi" Rolle, who helps a group of at-risk African American teenagers to produce a record. He's assisted by his fiancée, Robin "Kheperah" Kearse, a music industry veteran. From the start, they discourage misogyny and thug posturing, but encourage their charges to rhyme from the heart. Released in conjunction with the movie, the Hip Hop Project CD took years to materialize, because the aspiring rappers were expected to keep up with school work and sometimes had to take time out to deal with family crises. The charismatic Christopher "Cannon" Mapp, for instance, gets involved while his mother is entering the final stages of multiple sclerosis. Kazi, who is in his 20s, has issues of his own. In encouraging these kids to strengthen family bonds, he realizes he needs to set a better example. So, the filmmakers follow Kazi as he returns to the Bahamas to pay his respects to his foster mother. Then, he re-connects with his birth mother, who left him behind when she moved to the States. All the while, he teaches his charges to write, rap, and record an album. Willis and rap mogul Russell Simmons help out along the way. Viewers concerned about language should be advised that there's profanity here, but no negativity. Even Oprah, an outspoken critic of gangsta rap, would approve. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
