5 out of 5 stars Solid performance... nice version of Awaken.......2006-07-19

This is the DVD of the DirecTv "Freeview" broadcast of this concert. As was the case with that broadcast, this DVD does not include "Close To The Edge" nor "Hearts".

As one band member quipped, Igor does a better Rick than Rick; he shines on Awaken and the Ladder tracks in particular. Billy Sherwood helps fill out the sound/vocals throughout and thanks to him we get a nice version of the Grammy award-winning instrumental "Cinema" but he could have been higher in the mix. (There are some older gentlemen on stage who do their part and some of whom could use a bit of fashion advice!)

Included is a 5.1 studio remix of Homeworld and the sound is awesome. Unfortunately, though good, the sound for the concert itself is not quite up to this standard. The aspect is 16:9 not 4:3.

... small venue... enthusiastic crowd and solid overall performance. No problems with my copy. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars THE GOOD.......2006-02-25

Excellent live show that features some outstanding songs. Homeworld and Perpetual Change are awesome highlights. But, the real show stopper is the jaw-dropping rendition of Awaken- what a wonderful song and they do a great job performing this one. The Russian on keys is great- they should have kept him. Add this one to your collection.

2 out of 5 stars Am I missing something? Or is it Yes?.......2006-01-03

I bought this DVD partly as a result of the extremely positive reviews here, but I have to admit that I'm very disappointed. I positively love Yes. I saw them live 3 times in the 1970s, but this doesn't sound like the band I knew. Yes combined technical proficiency with a hard rock "wall of sound" and passion. I hear no wall of sound and no passion here. It's like a classical string quartet performing Yes. It's like Yes turned into elevator music. Is it the absence of Rick Wakeman here? I noticed that visually the DVD focuses on Anderson, Howe, Squire, and White and not the two additional musicians. That's fine. But does the sound mix also leave them out and is that why this sounds hollow to me?

5 out of 5 stars Best Live Yes DVD yet. .......2005-12-25

First of all I would like to suggest to those others who are having problems with their copy of this dvd playing in their dvd player, It's not the Disc it's your player, especially if you have a Carausel dvd player (one that plays more than one disc) Those kind of dvd players are notorious for freezing up and pixilating. Get a single disc player quickly. Then buy the House Of Yes dvd again and enjoy this most awesome Live YES DVD, The best one so far. It holds a special place for me because I was there and am seen in several video captures of the audience, as well as my rowdy cheers, which is really cool. Sorry to those of you who don't like the sound of audience excitement on cd's and dvd's, but it's a LIVE show for crying out loud, and i must say i do like to hear the excitement of enthusiastic fans on Live discs. Anyway that aside, The Concert Club they performed in is beautiful as Jon Anderson states in the show and has that Renaissance style theater feel. It is One of the coolest concert venues in Las Vegas. The camera work is great and The 5.1 surround sound mix is completely awesome. A must have for all YES fans. And I think many others agree as well. Again, For those of you having problems with the disc, Buy a new DVD player. Mine plays perfectly fine and It's the second one i've bought, because my first copy, which i bought the day it was released back in 2000 was stolen by some ungrateful thief. Just buy it there is nothing wrong with the discs and enjoy the awesome concert that is The House Of YES. Now if we can get YES to make a Live dvd of the entire "DRAMA" cd, that would be a most excellent treat, even though Jon Anderson doesn't sing on that album, it would be nice to hear his interpretation of those most excellent YES tunes that we never get to hear Live. Au Revoir!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent live performance in a small venue.......2005-12-08

This in some ways out does other yes dvd performances as far as sound or playing quality goes. Excellent buy for the price. I wish it could have been longer but the performances are good..I really like the fact that they played perpetual change on it. The new material from the ladder is performed well as is the older material.

Too often dismissed as dinosaurs of the progressive-rock movement of the 1970s, Yes aimed to revive their former glory with their 1999 album, The Ladder. Veteran producer Bruce Fairbairn specifically urged the band to return to the sound that made it famous--poetic lyrics, thickly layered fusion of guitar, bass, keyboards, and sophisticated melodic structures. Whether Yes achieved its goal is subject to debate, but die-hard Yes-philes will surely agree this is the finest video presentation of this enduring band and its music. The Dolby Digital 5.1-channel audio is exquisitely distinct, showcasing the seasoned musicianship of guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire, drummer Alan White, and next generation Yes members Igor Khoroshev (replacing Rick Wakeman on keyboards) and Billy Sherwood (who later left the band) on guitar.

After 30 years as Yes frontman and vocalist, Jon Anderson leads in fine form. His mellow enthusiasm is genuine, and this 15-song set (recorded at the Las Vegas House of Blues club) catches the band on a very good night. Squire is a playful match to Howe's reliable precision, and the best of the new songs (particularly "Homeworld" [The Ladder]) are almost as good as the classics. And while the Bob Marley tribute song "The Messenger" is best forgotten, few could deny that Yes has indeed retained its vitality after all these years. In addition to interviews with all the band members (except White), impressive extra features on the DVD include a Dolby 5.1 version of the "Homeworld" album track, accompanied by computer-animated excerpts from the "Homeworld" CD-ROM game, and an HTML version of the Yesworld Web site. A conspicuous effort to attract a new generation of cyber-savvy fans? Perhaps, but if this terrific DVD is any indication, Yes needn't worry about passing into obscurity. --Jeff Shannon

1 out of 5 stars One of their best shows....sadly, disc does not play.......2007-01-09

If you can ever get it to play, it is higly recommended. Perhaps their best live recording. I purchased mine through Amazon's "Used Seller" program. After I reported the issue and supplied them with my receipt, they never contacted me again.

5 out of 5 stars Another Defective - I'm Re-Buying!.......2005-02-16

I saw this show the night before this taping when they played Phoenix's now-closed Union Hall. It truly was (and is) the best concert I have ever seen in my life, and I still get chills thinking about it. It was eerie when Jon Anderson played the little harp and coincidentally was illuminated in shadow on an adjacent wall like an angel - I wonder whether it was planned that way, but doubt it.

Like others, sadly, I bought this DVD when it first came out, and was disappointed that it stopped playing after just a few tries; what the heck is going on with these? It almost seems like the precursor of the limited time use discs you can get at stores where they are only good for a couple of days, as the disc surface reacts with air or something to make it unusable after a while. I now have DVD X-Copy, and will make a "back-up" copy as soon as I open the package on the new disc.

When I first got this DVD, I was initially just flat blown away by the quality of both the audio and the video, and then amazed that this was the exact same show I had seen in Phoenix - set list, order, timing, comments to the crowd, etc. I came to realize that the show I saw was the day (or two) before this taping and was the tune-up for the House of Blues show.

Buy this disc, as others have said, it may change your life. Make a back up copy if possible. That way you can do more than look at the box in the years to come!

5 out of 5 stars A Defective Gem.......2004-09-22

A great DVD--A+....until it stops working! When is someone going to fix this and stop selling a defective product?

5 out of 5 stars SOUNDS AS GOOD AS THE LIVE SHOW DID!.......2004-08-31

I loved this concert, the DVD captures it so well. And since I loved this DVD so much I repeatedly loaned it out to anyone who was curious. You always want to share YES. Well, the last time, it didn't come home. So now I'm buying a replacement. Why? Exceptional musicians give outstanding performances in this DVD. The feelings that were stirred in me at the actual concert come flooding back everytime I revisit through the video. Jon,Chris,Steve,Alan,Billy Sherwood and Igor. There are truly no words to describe the mastery of instruments, and the phenomenol voices of our four main pillars of musical strength. And if you're a YES fan, you may think twice about a Russian keyboardist (Igor Korechev)probably just filling in, or making do as the replacement for the dream maker Wakeman. Well, he does much more than fill in. He's perfection, and since he grew up a fan of the band you can tell he knows this is his chance to be part of the dream. The entire show is a masterpiece. In addition to the classic songs are a couple of 80's pieces(in which Sherwood shines as well), all done masterfully. But without hesitation I can say the new selections from the then current (1999)release "The Ladder" could easily have come from the 70's era. They wrote the songs for Ladder as a group, collaborating once again as they did in the days of yore. Beautiful! I could go on and on but I'll leave it at this, buy it, really take time to listen and it could change your life. A fantastic voyage for the eyes, ears and heart. I highly recommend headphones for musical intimacy. ... Remember, LIFE IS SHORT....MAKE FUN OF IT!

3 out of 5 stars psssss.......2004-07-01
