Pianist Jim Brickman invites a Salt Lake City audience to "pretend I'm over at your house for dinner and I'm playing you a few songs." This casual introduction is followed by 75 minutes of beautiful piano playing in a style that incorporates New Age, jazz, and pop influences. Brickman's solo piano pieces are romantic and impressionistic (his inspiration stemming from a contemplation of personal relationships) and his playing wonderfully emotive. Joining Brickman are singers Olivia Newton-John and Donny Osmond, and saxophonist Dave Koz--a mix that lends a nice variety to the show. Especially effective are Osmond's performance of "The Love of My Life" and Newton-John's "I Honestly Love You." Brickman also makes his vocal debut with a pleasingly mellow timbre on "The Love I Found in You" and "Star Bright."

Some critics bemoan a similarity of sound in his pieces, citing repetitious arpeggio playing over predictable chord progressions, but fans counter that that repetition defines Brickman's unique style. While this DVD and the compact disc of the same name are both based on the PBS special, it's worth noting that the song selection does vary between the two. Snuggle up by the fire with a loved one, grab a glass of wine, and spend the evening with Jim Brickman--you won't be disappointed. --Tami Horiuchi

I saw Jim Brickman as an opening act for Olivia Newton-John in Connecticut about three years ago. His act was all right, but it was also very boring. Imagine my surprise when I saw his concert on DVD - a concert in which he was the headliner.

I bought the DVD simply because of the guest stars, one of which is Olivia Newton-John. They had collaborated on a couple of songs and they present them here. One of the songs, "My Valentine," was released as a single - although I never heard it on the radio.

If you like the sort of thing that Brickman sells, then you will love this DVD. He's actually excellent at what he does. It's not my cup of tea, though. To me, his act is something I could probably find in a thousand piano bars.

Because of the pacing of the concert, I am deducting one star.

Otherwise, it's quite enjoyable (if you like this sort of thing).

Jim Brickman is a very talented performer, song writer, and vocalist. This concert was a pleasure to watch and one to watch again, and again, and again.

I loved too the performances by Donny Osmond. To me, that was two great artists coming together to make sweet music.

Olivia Newton-John was also a guest artist on this concert and it is great to hear her voice again and as beautiful as ever.

I loved the behind the scenes. They were hilarious and fun to watch.

This is a definite 5 and more stars DVD and a must watch, must have DVD to add to your collection.

For anyone who is a lover of great musical talent, this is a DVD that you will want to get and keep playing over and over. Jim Brickman and friends put their heart and soul into this program. You can see from their delivery, how much they love music and want to please the audience! This is one that you want to add to your collect. I play this DVD over and over and it just makes you feel great!. Also, purchased the music and CD for this program and it worth the investment

My Romance - An Evening with Jim Brickman is a must have for anyone who enjoys easy listening and standards. Brickman, who just ended a U.S. tour opening for Olivia-Newton John finally gets his day in the sun and lets all his talent show with special musical guests popping in here and there to sing some of their old hits as well as Brickmans. (i.e. Olivia Newton-John - "I Honestly Love You", Donny Osmond, and many others.) One of the most captivating songs is "Change Of Heart", a song written by both Olivia Newton-John & Jim Brickman. If your a fan of easy listening 70's tunes - then your sure to love My Romance - An Evening with Jim Brickman.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this DVD. I felt like a teenager again, but without the zits and insecurities! Thanks for including all the hits from the 1970's as well as the newer material. Great voice, and very easy on the eyes.

Donny Osmond puts on a charisma ridden show! He has grown up and displays real showmanship. This is no longer the boy Osmond we followed in the 70`s. This is a DVD to watch more than once! This isn't "Puppy Love."

Great Concert and fun DVD to watch.......2007-03-21

I have to disclaim that I am a little biased on this one because I am included in the credits. The cover photo (2 photos combined obviously) and the photos in the extras section are mine. That said, this concert was amazing in person and the DVD does it some justice. If you are a fan or just enjoy a great concert performance from a class A performer, this one is well worth it.

Great to listen to BUT............2006-02-12

I found this DVD hard to watch. The camera had an attention span of 1 to 4 seconds before switching to another shot. I would have liked to watch Donny sing, I did not need to see the audience (which was about 50% of the shots). But the Bonus features and the songs were great. I liked his other DVD and if I had to buy just one, it would have been Donny Osmond - Live.

Excellent, Wonderful, Wow, and Wow!!!.......2006-01-16

Another excellent DVD concert by Donny Osmond! His performances are brilliant and Donny has certainly not lost his touch when it comes to beautiful singing and entertaining.

His tribute to his mother who has passed away was heart-warming and it was hard not to shed some tears. Seeing his sons peforming with their father was an extra special treat!

Gotta say I love this DVD and thoroughly enjoyed watching it!

This DVD is great. I bought two different DVDS of Donny and I love both of them! He is cuter than he was as a kid, and he sings great. Old and new songs, I love the oldies like Puppy Love! It shows the concert and behind the scenes footage. ANyone who is a Osmond fan will love this!

To see Donny after all these years, still looking absolutely gorgeous and sounding better then ever was a treat. If your a fan of Donny Osmond you will want to add this DVD to your collection. He has been in the business many years and stronger then ever. Not only do you have a chance to see a GR*8 concert. But he does a Lovely tribute to his Mother. This would be your chance to see Donny as a father as he performs with his very talented son's on stage Jeremy and his name sake Don. Seems talent runs deep within the Osmond domain. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this fabulous show to all.There is some great backstage footage too. So don't just take my word for it...purchase this and take a look.
