Based on her CD of the same name, Linda Eder's 2001 Bravo television special Christmas Stays the Same features the Broadway belter in a wide variety of holiday fare, from big-band swingers to tender ballads. Not surprisingly, she sounds best in the originals written for her by then-husband Frank Wildhorn, such as the title tune, "Christmas Through a Child's Eye" (which they wrote together for their son), and "The Bells of St. Paul." But Eder also shines on Judy Garland's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and brings the house down with "Don't Rain on My Parade," made famous by Barbra Streisand, who like Garland is an artist Eder has often been compared with. "Don't Rain on My Parade" is also an example of some of the non-holiday fare in the show, along with Wildhorn's "Vienna" and "Gold." Despite the addition of a gospel choir it's really not a flashy show, but Eder, her band, and her big voice are enough to provide plenty of Christmas cheer. --David Horiuchi

One of a Kind!.......2006-11-10
Linda Eder is not in any way a Barbra S. (WANNABE)
She stands alone in many ways, her range, the pure tone of her voice,
her versatility in doing a wide range and type of songs.
The so called critics of this extremely talented LADY are clearly
showing there envy because they can't display any talent of their own
so they critic the ones who do.
a tremendous concert.......2004-12-06
If you're a Linda Eder fan, you must have this dvd. It is an incredible concert, and every part of it is first rate, from the band to the choir to the arrangements, and especially Linda herself.
LINDA EDER,TREASURE OF A LIFETIME.......2004-11-04
THIS CHRISTMAS DVD IS THE BEST INVESTMENT I`VE MADE IN A LONG TIME. I WAS ALREADY A LINDA EDER FAN. BEING ABLE TO WATCH HER PERFORM ANYTIME I WANT IS WONDERFUL. PLEASE GET HER CD`S IF YOU CHOSE TO GET THIS DVD. YOU`LL BE SO GLAD YOU DID. SHE IS THE ULTIMATE SINGER IN THIS LIFETIME.
Most Incredible Concert From The Most Amazing Singer.......2004-11-03
There are few performers around nowadays that deserve standing
ovations, but Linda Eder is one of them.
From the first note of "Christmas Stays the Same" to "God Bless
America ", this lady will have you glued to your seat, humming
along with her.
No one does a better job with "cover songs" than Linda Eder. The
only better thing than this concert, is seeing Linda perform live.
Buy! Buy! This DVD. You will not regret it . In fact you will come to treasure it and the lady's voice as much as I do.
Buy the cd too and open a new world for your friends and family.Let them experience the Divine Linda Eder.
Also Kudos to Jeremy Roberts and the band and Dave Clemmons' choir.
illegal.......2004-10-29
No stone in my heart can ever excel beyond what this art, this voice can do to soften it... and for that need to be softened, I am continually enslaved.
Leaving this artist/concert behind is like an elephant trying to leave a memory behind, it simply cannot be done; I am convinced of it. I know, I've tried.
If there ever was a moment in American music history it would be the moment this singer turns face to face with the voices in the choir and uses her own supernatural gift to create what appears to be visual weaving as she intuitvely sings "silent night", weaving in and out of each singer with sound as if she were creating her own handmade tapestry.
And when you finish the concert... you realize it was your heart she wove.
In the end there she is, a singer who's face and voice are like a living painting, Tall Dark Stallion Girl; one that is impossible to turn from. Captivating her bound audience as if she were the pied piper of hamelin as she sings such songs as "If I should lose my way" and "The little drummer boy".
Actually, Eder can change the title "hamelin" to "hearts" and it would portray what she does with utmost accuracy.
She should be illegal.
Even the lady behind the glass at the Louvre` has some competition with this face and voice, for once viewed, one cannot break free of Eder, to do so is to fail miserably, so if you're not up for this surrender, then don't even bother viewing.
It's like reaching through a looking glass one cannot ever fully escape from. Instead of Cheshire cats and rabbits running late you are thrown to the depths of your own creativity the way nothing else propels you there as she sings "Ave Maria" and "Vienna". THIS is what her voice does. THIS is the best way to explain her phenomenon. THIS is the beautiful fool you will become.
*sigh*
Ya, I'm there. And all I can do is just let it be.
I find myself putting up my defenses, disliking the vulnerability her vocal talents create in me, trying to find something wrong, ANYTHING, to justify banishing her from my tv screen only to find myself comparing her to every singer I meet, hear, or work with...helpless in the end.
She wins.
How does someone who's been "ruined" by her talent go back to what they were before it? The answer: you can't.
This DVD should be put under the bow of every wrapped gift given this year, but not before stamping "ILLEGAL" on the tag!
P.s. there is an interesting misprint on the cover of this first batch making for a sure collectible.
