5 out of 5 stars Get this if you like Chimaira........2006-11-20

The dehumanizing process is a very essential music dvd to all Chimaira fans because it has their first album/E.P. called This present darkness and its just fantastic, its what got them signed in the first place and its a very rare album it also has a few extra tracks included in the album. The dvd has a feature length documentary that shows everything from recording their second album The imposibility of reason and the problems they have had while on tour like losing their drummer Andols, there are a couple of live shows and behind the scenes that I found out to be very interesting although the comentary track was useless because it seems like the band members were wasted when they recorded it, there was a hilarious appearence from Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Kerry King who was praising the band.

Mark Hunter also tells us how difficult it is for a metal band to successed in the music buisness and once your second album doesn't sell enough albums then your dropped of from the label or record industry and forgotten about, you get to see the pressure of this band as they continue to make great music. The dvd also has all their music videos from the first two albums and live footage from the roadrage tour 2003 in Holland which is the best part as they play some of their best song like Eyes of a criminal, Power trip, Dehuminizing process ect. and the sound quality was very good 5.1 suround sound.

Overall this was a very good and indepth look at this amazing metal band, if you're a true Chimaira fan then you'll defenitely love this. Their latest self titled album by far was their best album yet and I cannot wait to hear what they come up with next I highly recomend this dvd.

OK, CHECK THIS OUT, i love chimaira, no doubt about it..they are one of the best metal bands to come along in a while...but am i the only one that thinks watching this dvd is like watching some cheap kung fu flick from the mid '70s!?!?!? they could've spent an extra 15 minutes making sure the audio matched up with the video being shown. anyway, like i said, i love chimaira, but am very dissapointed with the dvd. better luck next time fellas

5 out of 5 stars The horror that is Chimaira..........2006-06-08

This dvd gives you a glimpse into what it's like to be in a band like Chimaira. From their first album failing to make sales to some of the accidents that happen (from video shoots literally going up in flames to vans breaking down), and drummers leaving, these guys have had it pretty rough over the years since the beginning. Probably their first real major loss was former guitarist Jason Hagar leaving the band. Also includes music videos, live show from Holland (note: this is also featured on the special edition of their self-titled album), and their EP. Trust me. If you're a fan, this should not be overlooked.

Recently Andols Herrick rejoined the band, and they've left Roadrunner Records. So I'm interested in seeing what's next for Chimaira.

Another gem from Chimaira. This DVD is well worth the money. If you don't know the guys, this gives you a little insight to the behind-the-scenes madness and their personalities.

This band is surely becoming a metal legend, don't miss out on this!

I went into this expecting very little. I think it's always a mistake to show the lighter side of a metal band. I bought this only for the 'This Present Darkness EP.' Despite my strong feelings objecting the whole concept of this movie I watched it. I felt it did show the band's humanity in a positive way. I never thought 'The Impossibility Of Reason' was extremely good, I always found it a bit overrated, but coming out of watching this, I think it's wonderful. That's all this movie is actually, it follows Chimaira during the production and touring of that CD. It also covers the loss of two drummers and the band's feelings on how the departures went down. The live footage throughout is really what holds this film together. Knowing that Mark can really hit those screams, growls, and singing during concert is really a nice thing to know. I bought this after hearing their new CD 'Chimaira,' which features some death metal growls and feared that he wasn't actually doing it. But after watching this, I now know that he does, and can. Mark is also the most intriguing member of the band in my opinion. He's the only one that never fully opened up to the camera. He almost seems like a bystander at times. But it's obvious at the end of this movie, that these guys shouldn't be doing anything but making music...simply put.

On the special features of this DVD you can watch a concert they did. While not being the best show you'll ever see, they do do the music justice. The opening to 'The Impossibility of Reason' is awesome. If you haven't had the opportunity to see it, Mark has the crowd split in two and when he says the word (which is 'explode'), they all start a pretty big mosh pit. 'Pure Hatred' is also performed very good, but the crowd was horrible at that show so when it came their time to say the chorus, you couldn't hear a word of it. As a band though, it's clear that they're very good live.

The videos are okay, nothing groundbreaking by any means. I feel the only video that is redeeming is 'Pure Hatred.' I think the others shouldn't have ever been released.

The CD included, 'This Present Darkness EP' is, like I said, the reason I bought this. And it was well worth the money I paid too. The quality is very raw which makes their sound that much better in my opinion. A nice completion to a worthy DVD.

All in all, this is definitely something everyone should pick up. If not for the CD, for the DVD. Because unlike the terrible bio-pic of Metallica's, this doesn't show the band in therapy. It simply follows them through the recording process.
