5 out of 5 stars With the Crowes it's about the music...as always.......2007-06-30

I laugh out loud when i read the reviews of anyone who says this sucks or it's not as good as it could have been. The Crowes put the music first! No big fanfare, no fireworks, no gimmicks! It could be said the Black Crowes are the opposite of Kiss. Both bands give you your moneys worth, but with the Crowes its the music. No spectacle, no posturing and best of all NO Pretense! This shows the band with their best line up at the top of their game. That being said, I would have prefered to watch the band during the extended jamms instead of them walking around town. Also, I would have liked to see a longer soundcheck...but those are small gripes because the rest of this DVD is just awesome classic rock done with a style and class most bands don't have a clue about. I've seen the Crowes live several times and with different members and I just have to say I'm totally impressed with this DVD...Crowes fans have been waiting a long time for this and we were not dissapointed...you can play this for your children(it's not angry or weird) and you could play it for you folks(they won't say 'what the hell is this?)...this is what music and watching music should be...REAL!

4 out of 5 stars Good Crowes Performance.......2006-11-05

This one is pretty straight forward - the band comes out, plays their set and then good night. The song selection was representative of the best of the albums with Mark Ford on guitar with a few extras and some from the first album. They did em pretty much note for note with a little jam band stuff in the middle of some songs. I could have lived without the montage segments durning the jams. The back stage extras were OK but not really worth revisiting. A few with Kate Hudson hanging out with the band. This is a good overview of the Black Crowes and a solid performance. I don't regret the purchase and have watched it many times over by this point, as I am a big fan of their music.

5 out of 5 stars Great live band captured........2006-09-25

The Black Crowes certainly never treaded any new territory, musically speaking...and they never claimed to. All they do is play great rock-n-roll, and they do it very well. This relatively inexpensive dvd captures them intimately. The sound is very good, and there are very few cheesy film effects in this dvd. What you get is a classic rock band performing their songs. No gimmicks. For $15 usd, you can't go wrong.

5 out of 5 stars If you are a Black Crowes fan, you will love this!.......2006-07-27

I was at this concert and couldn't wait unitl this DVD came out. The Fillmore is such an awesome venue and the concert was one of the best Black Crowes concerts I've ever been to. The setlist is great and to see them up close doing there're thing is very cool. Lots of shots of San Francisco. This is a great music DVD. Highly recommended.

1 out of 5 stars well i knew it.......2006-07-26

well i knew it. first off, I like to LISTEN to this band. but in a concert, borrrrringggggggg. not much going on here, all just jammed on a small stage, plugging along.

And Chris, how DOES these guys get the babes? I have a cousin that looks pretty close to him, greasy hair beard and all. and my cousin sings kinda of, not even as good, but still, he is a real nice guy. and his chicks? haha, looks nothing like Goldies daughter! oh wait, he is middle class wages, yea like that has nothing to do with it! hahaha.

but anyway, glad I bought the dvd, just to see, even tho I had a feeling it was going to be boring no action like this. better on dvd money than concert money! music is cool tho, jam it when its on the radio

Listened with Sennheiser 595's, the best that I have found, had 555 for a couple years they are nice too, but cant touch 595's, pay the dif and see, er I mean hear.

5 out of 5 stars Wow Black Crows still knock me out!.......2007-06-06

This is a great Disc, incredible sound, crisp clean rocking! Great clearity of visuals, nice camera work. I am very happy with this disc on a technical level. Also it's a damn fine show. First real Blu Ray disc, I have Ricky Bobby which I got with my PS3 it basically sucked in all aspects so I was a bit soured on Blu Ray Especially after such a great experience wit HD DVDs. This Blu Ray really chages my whole outlook on the the format! I can't wait to get more Blu Rays after the latest PS3 firmware update because now I can view my discs in 720p as opposed to 480p downgraded. that was a big problem for me with the PS3 solved and now very happy. Bring on the Blu Ray! What can I say about the Black Crows performance? Absolutely incredible! the finest line of the band I have seen, the set list was great. Just an A+ concert! If you have Blu Ray and you love rock and blues you must own this disc. GO GET IT !

5 out of 5 stars This DVD is awesome.......2004-09-25

This DVD is so good. I picked it up at my local store for $10 Australian Dollars. This has the full-length film-clips for "Tonite", "Trouble", "Born & Raised In Compton" & "Quik Is The Name". It also has lots of concert footage, a tupac tribute, a mausberg tribute & lots of behind-the-scenes footage. If i was u i would get this without even thinking twice about it.

4 out of 5 stars Don't Be "Quik" To Judge On This DVD!.......2004-04-26

He's been in the music industry for close to 15 years. He continues to write, produce, and perform some of the most addictive music in the history of West Coast rap. Still, DJ Quik must fight to gain respect. With his latest project, a full-length DVD movie chronicling his life on tour, in the studio, and all sorts of behind-the-scenes action, Quik aims to shows his fans all of the hard work that goes into making his music.

"Visualism" isn't your average "Behind The Music" profile. You'll not only get to hear Quik speak on his life and his career but also get some insight on how he produces his music. There is a lot of very interesting information for all the aspiring producers and musicians out there.

"Visualism" not only shows what Quik has been up to but it also introduces you to the line-up of artists who work with him on a regular basis including Hi-C, Suga Free, and AMG. It also has Quik speaking on his departed homeboy, Mausberg, with concert footage of the late rapper as well as video of Quik's tribute to him on tour. Quik also speaks on another deceased rapper, the legendary Tupac Shakur. You'll also see Quik in the studio working with Nate Dogg on the soundtrack for the Chris Rock movie, "Head Of State". You also get a commentary track where Quik speaks on the entire movie.

Any true DJ Quik fan will want to own this DVD and if even if you've never heard anything that Quik has put down in the studio, this might convert you. You may want to pick up a few of his albums and get the backstory on his career first though.

3 out of 5 stars It's Cool, But Could've Been A Lot Better.......2004-03-26

I'm a huge Quik fan and this DVD is cool, but it had too much studio footage and too much of the camera following Quik around. And the big dissappointment was that it only had 4 videos. It should've had most if not all of his videos and a better biography of how he got started in the game. So you should only buy this if your a big Quik fan. If not than don't bother.

5 out of 5 stars ONLY FOR TRUE QUIK FANS.......2004-03-17

this dvd is truely an inside view on Quik and represents so much of the CPT

Rehearsal Footage

1 out of 5 stars Goofy.......2006-12-30

As the spotlight reviewer said, this is a strange, silly concoction of clips spliced together to form, not art, but garbage.

I regret I bought it.

2 out of 5 stars a strange release by a strange band.......2005-08-14

Yeah, concert DVDs can get kind of repetitive, so I applaud the Art of Noise for doing something a little different. But I have beef with the way this was put together. Let me count the ways:

1. Lots of concert DVDs use footage from multiple shows, but NOT DURING A SINGLE SONG! Watching this, you will notice that they literally switch from one concert to another, from black to white, from night to day, and from indoor to outdoor, shot by shot. I assume the audio from each song wasn't similarly mixed, meaning that the visual footage is being randomly assigned to one performance of the song. In essence, that turns this into a live music video rather than a performance. And speaking of music videos,

2. They keep working in odd and ungainly video footage into the visual mix, often cutting away from the band entirely for long periods. While this has worked in other DVDs I have seen (DJ Shadow's "In Tune and On Time" DVD, for example), here it's jarring and unsettling and due to the painfully repetitive flashing images should probably not be viewed by epileptics or small children. Most unforgivably, the band is not shown at all for the whole of "Beat Box," which is one of the few songs that probably got the crowd on its feet (not that we'll ever know). Speaking of the crowd,

3. This isn't exactly a hopping party. The crowd mostly just stands there, and while Paul Morley tries to at least acknowledge the presence of an audience by mostly hopping up and down and talking at length about Debussy, this fails to energize the masses. The whole effort seems a little drab when caught on video. While it's entirely understandable that the filmmakers don't focus on the crowd (all too many concert DVDs dwell on the band's screaming admirers in their search for relevance), it's a SHOW for goodness sake. And it's the Art of Noise to boot. It should be, if nothing else, interesting.

4. Musically, the band is very good, but "The Seduction of Claude Debussy" (the source album for most of AON's reunion tour) is a thick, layered, sonically complex record, and the live performances can't quite capture its swirling beauty.

5. The bonus footage is cool but rather short.

All in all, this is a DVD that hard-core AON fans will cherish and that will probably leave everyone else a little cold.

1 out of 5 stars Don't bother !.......2005-07-01

The Art Of Noise gets back together for a reunion.
Bad photography and editing.
Don't bother

5 out of 5 stars Anne Dudley & Trevor Horn at their best!.......2003-09-21

Reading the other reviews on this DVD, I was stunned about the critics. What we have here is simply never been done on a stage to date! Of course Paul Morley acts like an idiot, and I miss John Hurt. However, it's still a work of a collection of genius performers, and this is precisely why you should add this item to your private Art of Noise collection. As no one took the effort to mention that Lol Creme is a guest member on stage, you'll find some more surprises on this very balanced registration of old and new songs on the best DVD in my private collection. Have the courage to experience 2 hours of sheer emotion!

Description

A family is shattered when seven-year-old Jennifer disappears while she and her mother, Sharla, are shopping. As the days pass, police searches and her prayers lead to nothing, Sharla struggles over how a loving God could allow evil to happen to a child — a child entrusted into His arms.

While delivering a compelling and emotional story, this film raises questions of faith without offering simplistic answers. Through it all, one biblical truth prevails . . . in the midst of chaos, God will still be present.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever.......2006-05-13

When I sat down and watched this movie, I was moved to faithful tears of the good lord, Jesus. I was transformed into a believer, like a child who for the first time in his short life first looked into the sun and said "I'M FREE." My faith has been restored, and my life now has meaning, for now I understand the true power and ways of the Lord. I even saw my pet rotweiler cry. Ultimately, I now have a meaning to live and TBN is the best station on television. I recommend all nonbelievers see this movie and I dare them, when it's done, to say that God is a phony. Yay God and down with Darwin!

4 out of 5 stars Well done low-budget film.......2006-05-13

I caught "Into His Arms" late at night on the Trinity Broadcast Network. Although it has a religious theme at heart, it is not the kind of in-your-face religious attitude that one often finds in such films - in fact, it is all very tasteful and assists the character development.

All in all, this is a surprisingly good film. It is low-budget (and shows in some of the sound) but the acting, character development, and story are better than your average fair, and are done very well. When events take a turn for the worst you feel for the characters, and the mystery of whodunnit is played well in regards to certain motifs and items. (sorry if I sound rather vague, but I'm trying not to give away spoilers)

All in all, it's a worthy rental. For lack of a better example, I would compare it to a Lifetime film...but much, much better. I commend the filmmakers for taking a little and doing a lot with it.

5 out of 5 stars a good christian film.......2005-12-30

This was an emotional tear jerker of a film. It explores how a Christian family might react to a terrible tragedy. While it was a low budget film, it was well acted and well scripted. Scenes that could have been disturbing were very tastefully handled, with the on camera work depicting what was not shown. I identified with the mother who burned her bible in anguish and anger towards God that he could let her daughter suffer and die. This film is for a Christian audience, and may not appeal to a secular audience. It also might not be a good choice for small children, as the concepts (abduction, death) aren't ones for children to worry about. Overall, it was very good.

5 out of 5 stars A testament to the power of faith.......2007-07-09

Hanneke van Dam worked as a child psychologist at the courthouse in Amersterdam, Holland, when she heard God's voice asking her to give up her job and move to Mongolia, leaving behind everything she had and everyone she knew. When she experienced this request Hanneke didn't even know where Mongolia was on a map. But she felt obliged to carry out God's mandate for her and went. When she got to Mongolia (an adventure in itself) she found herself in one of the coldest countries on earth where the majority of men were alcoholics, fueling violent behavior and disruptions of family life. "Journey Into The Unknown: The Inspiring Story Of Hanneke van Dam" is a 52 minute, full color, DVD documentary of a most remarkable woman who know lives in Mongolia, giving of herself to those who need the Christian message. We learn of successes and failures as she works with the struggles and broken lives men, women, and children. Very strongly recommended viewing for adolescent and adult members of the Christian community, "Journey Into The Unknown" is a testament to the power of faith and the willingness to obey God's calling into service as a stranger in a strange land.
